State of Geriatric Care Clinical Update: Sorting out the Three Ds Nov. 8, 2014 • 8 am – 3:30 pm University Center, University of North Florida Don’t miss this one-day symposium focusing on the differences between depression, delirium and dementia. The conference offers two tracks: one for clinicians who are eligible to receive continuing education credits and another for consumers who serve as caregivers for an older loved one. Both tracks will feature keynote speaker William H. Thomas, MD, an international authority on geriatric medicine and eldercare from Ithaca, N.Y. What you need to know about flu shots this year FREE flu shots are available to all team members and volunteers during Healthy For Life insurance discount screenings and during other designated times and locations across the system. Check the Employee Health intranet page or your Employee Health office for more information.

ALL team members, volunteers, students and contractors are required to have a flu shot or valid a medical contraindication or religious exemption on file. Declining the flu shot for personal reasons is not allowed this year. Those with an exemption on file are required to wear a mask while in patient care areas during the designated flu season. Flu shots and exemptions need to be completed by Nov. 30, or you will not be permitted to work.

Special need right now for male mentors More than a decade ago, Baptist Health and The Bridge of Northeast Florida formed a partnership to launch the Tipping the Scale Adolescent Advocacy & Intervention Mentoring Program, designed to help Duval County students stay in school through a holistic model that addresses academics, health, social enrichment, mentoring, and job skills training and employment.

Baptist Health team members mentor onsite during work hours two Tuesdays a month. More than 100 students participate and mentors contribute an average of 40 hours each year. Our success is due to the mentors and students who exceed program expectations, as well as the support of Baptist Health leadership.

Each year, we recruit new male and female students.

This year, we have an exceptional group of young men who deserve good mentors. Seeking team captains and walkers for diabetes walk Baptist Health is gearing up for the 22nd Annual Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, to benefit the American Diabetes Association, and we invite you to be a team captain or walker. The walk is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 22, starting at the Fidelity National Financial Campus, 601 Riverside Avenue, Jacksonville.

This year, our walk champions are Diane Raines, senior vice president and chief nursing officer, and Nicole Thomas, vice president, operations and specialty services for Baptist Jacksonville. Our walk coordinator is Tiffany Thomas of the Healthy For Life Program.

Here are some fun facts: The Copy Center, located in the Adult Tower basement at Baptist Jacksonville, produced more than 6 million copies this year.

Linen Services processes and distributes more than 5.5 million pieces of linen yearly.

Purchasing and Accounts Payable, located at Metro Square, generates and pays approximately 1.1 million purchase-order lines annually.

The Par Excellence System is our automated supply inventory and charge system for more than 50,000 items stocked at 225 supply locations throughout Baptist Health.

The Distribution/SPD team delivers more than 175,000 packages per year, with 99 percent on-time reliability.

The Mailroom at Baptist Jacksonville processes more than 900,000 pieces of mail a year.

Courier Services has a network of routes between ALL Baptist Health locations and makes 6,600 scheduled stops annually.

This year’s event features a special maze design that incorporates the Wolfson Children’s Hospital and Baptist Health logos and more familyfriendly events than ever before, including a petting zoo, hay ride, pumpkin patch, cow train and duck races, to name just a few.
