I would like to take this time to invite you to the 19th Annual Bulls of the Bluegrass bull sale in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky on Saturday, April 1st. In the decision to start a bull sale 19 years ago there was no Simmental bull sale in the state other than a UK performance tested bull sale and there was some uncertainty in all the process however Dr Henry Allen and Fred Swain may the decision to start and become bull suppliers for there customers whomever they be. Over the years the group has sold bulls to 28 states and Canada. Matter of the last years high seller went to Bohrson Livestock and Canadian Sires. As in past sales again the breeders involved are offering a great and consistent set of bulls.Whether you are a Simmental breeder, Angus breeder, club calf producer or a commercial beef producer you will have a great selection of bulls for your operation. The bull selection is probably the best set ever with a wide range of pedigrees and just a plain good group of impressive bulls. Many past customers have bulls working in their operations across Kentucky and the United States. Just think how many Simmental bulls are working across the state of Kentucky and the genetic merit that has been added to cow herds. In visiting with many customers the genetics are definitely improving their end product and bottom line. This is one of the later bull sales in Kentucky and you as a producer can rest assured you can find the right bull for your program. Buy the correct herd sire and take him home and put him to work. This group is committed to the seed stock industry and the Simmental breed and that’s the reason for their 19th bull sale. The cattle numbers across the country are low as they have been since 1959 however the prices are backed off somewhat howeverthe group still offers a top group of bulls. There is no better time so select a Simmental bull that offers efficiency and that high hybrid vigor which results to pounds and profit in your cow herd. If you haven’t used a Simmental in the past I encourage you to visit with the consignors or and learn more about the advantages of using a Simmental or SimAngus™ bull. The bull group continues to select and produce cattle to meet the industry needs and the needs of the commercial producer. I encourage you to visit with the producers regarding their bulls. This year the offering consists of purebred Simmentals, and SimAngus™ bulls. The bulls will be ready for viewing on Friday so please stop by anytime especially if you cannot attend on Saturday. We will be glad to assist you on any of your bull needs. On behalf of DP Sales Management we always enjoy working and promoting Simmentals with a great group of breeders. If anyone has any questions regarding the sale offering contact the consignors, Dalton Lundy, Drew Hatmaker, or myself. Again we look forward to visiting with you sale weekend. I guarantee on your inspection that there will be a great selection of bulls. These committed breeders made sure of the quality issue. Also, don’t forget that trucking is available if needed. See you sale day. For our bull customers across the country the sale will be on DV Auctions so please utilize that service however call DP Sales or any other breeders for info about your possible selections.

On the Sire side going back to Ten X. One of the heaviest used Angus bulls. You study his no holes really good EPD profile and then wonder can he be as good as his picture? This is what a percentage bull is supposed to be built like. Extra meat and middle all while staying sound on a good foot and leg structure. C015 has been a standout since the beginning He comes from one of our top earning and producing donors. Tessa continues to produces good ones. His full sister is staying in the herd. You will not go wow on his growth numbers but I will put his calves performance against most bulls. These EPDs reflect one of the downfalls of embryo transfer no data ratios to help them. D004 & D005 – Last year we did something in the bull sale that was unheard of. We sold a Red Bull in central Kentucky for $18,000! He sold to Scott Bohrson in Canada. Here is a pair of maternal brothers to him. Sierra is best known for producing Alley the 2013 NWSS Champion female, but her calves are in herds across the country. Many prominent breeders have invested in genetics out of her and many more will in the future. At 11 years of age she has never had a hoof touched and still moves across the fields as if she was 2 yrs old. Their sire Lock Down has been the go to black baldy heifer bull the last few years. These 2 have heifer bull potential. They are going to be exciting to see as mature bulls. Ask about our calf buyback. Homo Polled. Owned with S J Cattle Co

My father and I have been purchasing bulls from the Bulls of Bluegrass sale for each of the last several years. These bulls have went out and have performed year after year. They have contributed to an excellent set of bred heifers for the Bourbon County Elite Heifer Sale as well as quality replacements for our herds. Calves are thick made and fast growing and sell at the top of the market when. We have had excellent relationships made with consignors in the sale. It is a sale we look forward to each year. – Jimmy and John Allen Mason

This is the first of several Lock N Loads that we will be making available. We have 7 heifer flush mates to this one that we love and will be trying to keep as many of as we can. This full face baldy is long, stout, and just really good. It’s easy to see why the progeny of Lock N Load have been selling so high and making so much noise across the country. This is a bull that just looks great from every angle. He is deep, thick and sound and puts it together in a package that is smooth as a ribbon. I would be happy if every one of our bulls looked just like this one, we like this one a lot! From a genetic standpoint, we feel like his calving ease and birth weight indicate he can be used on well managed heifers and he remains more than 105 on API. This is a high end breeder bull. Homozygous polled. Negative to BVD PI

Here is a bull that simply put is going to get it done! He is sound structured, deep, easy fleshing, and a grass converter! He will go out and work a set of cows and give you calves that come easy and perform. To find a bull with 13 on calving ease, -1 on BW and almost 100 on yearling and more than 135 on API is just really hard to do. We thought long and hard about keeping this bull to use, but decided we wanted to give people the opportunity to buy him. Homozygous Black and Homozygous Polled. Negative to BVD PI

We have been in the cattle business 20 plus years in Trigg County. I have been past President of our county cattleman’s association and also involved in the state cattleman’s board. Now currently I am member of the board of directors for our county cattleman’s. We run approximately 200 cows and which are all spring calvers. We market our calves off the farm thru Riley Livestock and are shipped to feedlots out west. In the past Bulls of the Bluegrass sale I have selected 9 different bulls which have come from the programs of Swain, Wayward Hill and Misty Meadows. In 2012 I purchased an Upgrade son from Mr Dawson and that bull has been great. After watching his calves come easy and outperform all the other sire groups, I decided to collect that bull and use him more. We have AI'd heifers for the past two years and had approximately 30 heifers and have never lost a calf out of that special herd sire. One good thing about the Bulls of Bluegrass consignors they all are super nice and understanding to the person individual needs plus trust worthy and each year bring high quality bulls year after year. I will again see you sale day. – David Hite, Trigg County Page 9

He has a massive front with great extension, thick across top line and the best numbers any Antoinette offspring has ever had. His first calf crop is hitting the ground and we cannot wait to see what these calves do. Crown Royal has the calving ease to work on any female and the growth numbers to improve your herd. We have collected Crown Royal and have several straws of semen in the tank. With that, we decided to allow someone else have the opportunity to own him. I could go on and on about him, check him out.

When you look at this bull in the lot remember he is in a pen with bulls 2-3 months older than him. High regard cattle have been very well accepted in the breed for their style and eye appeal. This one adds a little twist to that pedigree because he is Homo Polled and Homo Black. His mother was a first calf heifer with him and did an excellent job last year and doing great again. Awesome young cow. Ask about out calf Buyback. Genomic Enhanced EPDs. Homo Polled and Homo Black.

Swain Select Simmentals Swain Select Simmentals began in the 1980’s with our sons Junior Simmental programs. Now we have over 30 years of commitment to the Simmental advantage. We are concentrating on producing quality cattle that are structurally sound, genetically proven and ready to work to be productive for you, your herd and the beef industry. We were blessed to have had the opportunity to own CEZ Black Mindy 101B and to develop her influence on the Simmental breed. Along with WHF and Triple J Farms we initiated the Belles and Bulls of the Bluegrass sale 19 years ago with traditional Simmentals as the first Simmental bull sale in Kentucky. We certainly have changed the cattle in those 19 years but wow what a productive change. We are proud of the fact to be part of great industry and more importantly to have the Swain prefix on many cattle over the years. Bulls from our program have gone to studs such as Select Sires and others. Thank you for your interest in these sales and we wish to invite you to the be part of these 19th Annual quality event. www.swainselect.com and www.youtube.com/swainselectsimmental Fred, Phyllis, Chi, Angie and Glavin Swain
Wayward Hill Farms Wayward Hill Farm is owned and operated by the Dr. Henry Allen family. Dr. Allen started in the Simmental seedstock business in 1974. Currently Wayward Hill Farm is 150 Cow operation focusing on raising the best Simmental/ SimAngus genetics thru IVF, ET, AI and high quality herd bulls. Cattle are marketed thru the Belles and Bulls of the Bluegrass sales, KY Beef Expo, NAILE sale and by private treaty. Wayward Hill Farms offers to buy back feeders steers, feeders heifers or breeding heifers from our genetics. Over the years we are proud to have bred and raised many bulls that have benefited commercial and purebred programs across the state and the U.S. The foundation of our program was bulls that went to studs such as Big Sky, Desperado , Red Doc and others and the 240 female. You can find updates and what is happening with WHF at www.waywardhillfarm.com or on facebook.
Misty Meadow Farm Judy and I own Misty Meadows Farm which is located in Shelby County and consist of 177 acres. We started breeding Simmentals in 1978. We have 40 purebred black Simmentals. I have served in several different capacities on our Shelby Cattlemans board and the KCA to promote beef. This will be my 11th year in the Bulls of the Bluegrass Sale. I try to sell bulls that calve easy, put pounds on calves and have good dispositions. I am honest with people and backup what I sell. I have enjoyed being a part of the Bulls of the Bluegrass group and have made several good friends by being in the Sale.
Welsh Simmentals Welsh Simmentals is owned and operated by Jeff and Teresa Welsh and with assistance from our son Adam. Our herd was started with genetics from Swain Select and our neighbor down the road, James Coomer. As we grew and developed over the years we have selected genetics from top programs in Kentucky and across the U.S. In our small program we continue to build strong cow families and utilize embryo transfer. We market genetics thru both Bluegrass sales and the Ky Beef Expo and the Tennessee Agribition. One of the proudest moments was in 2008 when Welsh Dew It Right was sold $17,500 at the sale going to Pine Ridge and Accelerated Genetics. He still walks the pastures in Seward Nebraska and continues to benefit many breeding programs. We have made many friendships thru this sale and the cattle business. We love to hear customer success stories. This is our 12th year in the sale and hopefully can it a few more.
Double Diamond Farm Our family partnership started over 20 years ago, selling both Simmental and Gelbvieh bulls and females. Mike and Shelley (Ronin, 3 and Willow 1) Meyer, and Kevin and Shannon (Kamber, 3 and Hazel 1) Farrell, farm together in Cynthiana KY on 375 acres. The operation consists of 80 purebred females, soybeans, tobacco, hay, and silage. God has blessed us with the shared interest to raise cattle as a family, allowing us to market our genetics through cattle shows both locally and nationally. We have enjoyed being a member of the Bulls/Belles of the Bluegrass team for many years and appreciate the opportunity to work with so many top notch families and operations from right here in KY!
