The one constant for this year has been the beef market. Calves continue to sell higher than many of us have ever seen. The fat market has also been good with pre-Christmas sales reported at $2.00 live and $3.05 in the beef with grid bonuses yet to be added. The message for us is to get cows bred that’ll calve and grow so you can cash in on this market and make money.
Good news - we got the message!!! We have a great selection of bulls and females for you to pick from. Mostly AI sired and some ET calves as well. All from breed leading sires and dams to add genetics to your herd to get you to your goals.
The top bulls we use here at J&C Simmentals for adding growth and muscle continue to be TJ Stone Cold, TJ Chief and Hooks Eagle. Added to this category that I like a lot is a new sire – KBHR Revolution. We also used Woodford to put some extra fancy in a few and not drop the API number below desirable levels. We continue to use TJ Big Easy and TJ Arrowhead for calving ease on heifers and the added growth and style Arrowhead provides. I used TJ Frosty on several matings but he has moved from a heifer bull to the growth and muscle category with predictable results. We continue to look at new bulls from breed leading herds that have the growth, muscle and eye appeal. The search never stops and I never tire of the search.
Come walk through the offering on Friday before the sale and also sale day at the Washington County Fairgrounds. I’d love to discuss the genetics and listen to your thoughts as well. Feel free to stop by the farm any time as well as we would be happy to show you around. The sale will again be a video auction sale. Come and enjoy our traditional hot beef lunch and bid in person. If you can’t make it, be sure to sign up at DVAuction or Livestock Market and bid online. Either way, we welcome you and thank you for your interest in our program.
Sincerely,
Jay Volk for J&C Simmentals

This 2-year-old is a perfect example of what we are trying to achieve in our breeding program. He has a long neck and body along with smooth shoulder, big hip and is soft footed. A bull that can sire breeding stock or highly productive terminal cattle. Don’t miss this one.

Sound footed and stout made combined with his easy feeding kind are all qualities County O processes and is one we would expect to be quite the asset once placed into production. He is not only wide down his top and out of his hip, but still carries his added mass with more than enough flex and reach off both ends when set into motion. His versatile type should no doubt show profit in any operation.

This Bold Statement son is massive in his makeup. He is powerful but still extremely sound in his structure like all of the Bold Statement sons. An all black big bodied Chief 3 year old. This cow is Hayley Anderson’s show heifer from last year. A week before the Washington County Fair she got sick and upon treatment, she aborted. We nursed her back to health and is bred back very early for a January calving date. She’s the tamest cow on the farm and we used her in the picture pen on the halter for assistance with keeping the young ones cool and calm.
