Welcome... The start of the fall sale season is almost like the bell ringing on the first day of school. There is a lot of excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead for the year. Today we look forward to what the “school” in Louisburg, Kansas will have to offer on September 24th. Of course, there is the class. Though things in the Head of the Class have changed over the past few years, I can guarantee you that what hasn’t changed is the great group of Simmental breeders assembled together to make this a great event. It is a great group of long-time Simmental breeders, plus newer programs that are enthusiastic about making their mark on the Simmental breed. We welcome new members like Andrew Speas and Justin Johnson to the Head of the Class, alongside classmates Bill Fulton, Barry Wesner, Ryan Heafner, and Bo Bramlet. The group is lead by the hospitable Steve and Margaret Sanders who will once again roll out the read carpet to ensure that you and your family have a memorable experience at Sanders Ranch, leave happy, and hopefully with a trailer full! There isn’t much homework needed to be done to attend the Head of the Class. Here in your lesson plan you will find information, data, and genetics on some of the top cow families in the Simmental breed. This group knows how to put together an awesome set of Simmental genetics for the buyer, and all you have to do is look through the catalog and mark those lots you want returning back to your farm. As always, the Cottontail legacy will be featured along with some of the matriarch families of Hudson Pines like Sazerac, Alley, and Right to Love. Many of the Head of the Class group members attended the largest Simmental state fair show at the Iowa State Fair already gaining some purple on a few of the animals in the sale.

O
n behalf of myself, Steve Sanders and the entire Sanders Ranch family, I would like to invite you to the 14th annual Head of the Class production sale. The fourth Saturday in September for the last 13 years, all eyes in the Simmental Seedstock industry have shined on the Sanders Ranch sale facility. There is no doubt that what has made this sale so successful over the years is the industry leading genetics that have walked thru this sale ring, but more importantly it is the partners that put this sale together that make it a “must attend” sale! The integrity of the Head of the Class group is second to none and I challenge you to find a group of breeders in one sale that have done more for the Simmental industry than this group. As always we encourage you to bring the entire family. We take pride in putting together a fun filled sale weekend so that a good time will be had by everyone in attendance. The cattle will be on display Friday afternoon, and followed by a great meal, fine music and of course the bounce houses for the kids. We look forward to seeing you in Louisburg on September 24th 2016. I would also like to thank the following people for making this sale possible: My family, Connie, Grady and Bristol Steve Sanders Family Greg and Barb Toller Matt Russell and Scot Lanham DP Sales Management
It is an exciting time to be in the Simmental breed. Coming off the largest junior nationals to date it is evident to see that the Simmental breed has a long, bright future ahead of it. Set yourself up for continued success in our breed by adding some of the genetics in the Head of the Class to your operation. As always, if DP Sales Management, the consignors, or the sale staff can be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact one of us. We look forward to seeing you as the bell rings for the Head of the Class sale on September 24th.

• Well, here she is! The full sister to the high selling open in last years Head of the Class sale. The Innocent Man BF Billy Joel - Full Brother to D430 daughter out of our feature donor KenCo Glamorous 430W. Is she as good? I would have to say by the way visitors are finding her in the pasture she’s on the right track. Now in the pen with her January and February peers this March heifer is shining brightly. Easy to pick her out. We think softer made, deep middled, long sided and strided with an attractive front end. Elegant in her movement and from every angle, thus the name, BF My Fair Lady D430.

• The phrase “opportunity is knocking on the door” best comes to mind with this outstanding pair. I ask myself why we would let a pair of females like this go? X342 is in the prime of her life and D601 is one of the top females we have ever raised to date. But, we wanted to offer our best individuals we could and after selling a high selling daughter of X342 and a full sib to D601 last year to Taylor Cattle Company in MO, the decision became quite simple. Females like these are hard to come by and even harder to let go. So as you will see the proof is in the pudding with this pair of powerful, but yet uniquely constructed females. We are letting both of these girls go, no strings attached, to let you reap the benefits of their prosperous futures.

• The Cottontail cow family needs no introduction on the Head of the Class stage. It is our pleasure to bring back to you this direct Cottontail daughter that has all of those same good pieces that have made this cow family a Simmental name-to-know. She’s even got the white in her switch to prove it. Coming to you as a 4 year old, this one is ready to go straight to work; no first calf and no terrible two’s to get her through. This cow has enough milk to raise three calves, always the heaviest among contemporaries, always with that ever elusive quality it takes to run the race in the seedstock/show cattle sector. The guesswork has been taken out of this lot. Royal pedigree and a real “working gal” personality will take this one a long ways. Donor potential here no doubt.

• The story of the Cottontail cow family continues to be written, and with chapters like this heifer calf pregnancy, the book will get even longer. Cottontail 086Z was one of the top sellers in last years sale and a definite crowd favorite. This Pays to Dream x Cottontail donor is as about as nice as you can make one. We chose to flush her to Grand Fortune due to numbers of high quality calves we saw the last two years. This is a heifer calf pregnancy due on 3/9/17. The resulting calf should be homozygous black and homozygous polled. Its breed leading genetics like these that make this sale a must attend year in and year out!

• At Bramlet and HTP Simmentals we selected the young Pays To Dream donor as a pair from Bill Sloup at Sloup Simmentals. This young donor after weaning her first calf went into embryo production and has done well. This Pays To Dream donor is sharp made, super feminine, deep sided and extremely complete. In the 2015 Head of the Class sale three Pays To Dream daughters sold for $10,750, $7,250 and $5,000. This daughter of the legendary Cottontail family will now take her own steps thru the production channel however been mated to the C and C Farms/Hartman Cattle Co herd sire 20/20 hopefully will speed up the process of high quality seedstock. We look forward to some classy progeny. Selling three embryos out of the Vision son out of Dew The Stroke with the all the proper guarantees.

• 398D and 358C – When you start making a short list of the breeds most prolific and consistent donor females you have to have 015U on it! This cow has worked time and time again with a variety of different bulls, all with the same result! You don’t have to go back to far in history to see how dominating this cow has proven to be! At the 2016 Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes she produced 2 division champions and 1 reserve division champion. In Denver 8 months ago her son, THSF Loverboy, was selected Grand Champion Bull for his new owners at Yardley Cattle Co. Last fall at the Living Legacy sale two daughter of 015U were highlights, a Wide Track selected by Kayla Jackson for $30,000 and Jerry Bornemann selected half interest in a Milestone daughter for $20,000. --This sale features many great breeding pieces by this living legend 015U. Rite 2 Luv 398D is a flusmate to the reserve heifer calf champion at Sweepstakes, this flush of Uprising daughters are some of the most powerful daughters of 015U. She is bold middled, wide based and easy on the eyes. The breds are from a variety of sires, all good in their own right, just different in what the top side of the pedigree brings to the table. 358C was called safe to W/C Relentless, the top selling calving ease bull from Wernings.

The Circle M Farms herdsire currently ranks in the top 3% of the breed for API and continues to impress in his ability to sire ultra-low birth weight cattle with phenotypic appeal not held by the average “high numbered” bull. His dam was a champion in the pasture here, stemming back to the steadfast B80 cow. Calves will be Legacy free and homo-black by breeding. Capitalize on the opportunity and potential here to make the next outcross Simmental sire name or base heifer stock that should cross well with the contemporary sire choices available. • It’s not very often that these truly special opportunities come along. With careful planning and patience we have been wanting to have tremendous offering at the year’s Head of the Class. We feel offering Time Bomb is the cherry on top. No matter what segment of the beef industry you are in this individual can add dollars to your bottom line. The blending of top Simmental and Angus genetics combined perfectly in this special package. Time Bomb created quite the buzz in the yards of Denver this January. If you saw him then and liked him, you are going to love him even more now as he has matured into a genuine herd sire. Dave Zeis has many nice females on his ranch but 457W, his dam in our opinion is tops. This female is near perfect phenotypically in her design, her elegant front end, stout square hip and balanced udder tie together flawlessly. We offered a full brother to Time Bomb at the KY Beef Expo where he was selected by Allen Edwards & Tom Viner. Luke Gilbert selected a top full sister at this very sale last year and she has collected banners across the Midwest. Another sister made her way to WV to Buena Vista Simmentals. All of the homework is done; Time Bomb tested Homozygous Black, Homozygous Polled and has been DNA 150K tested. Offering 100% possession and 2/3 semen interest. Give DP Sales or us a call about this one.

• Here is an Innocent Man show heifer, that brings it all to the table. Her mother Sandeen Donna 4325 was a top seller and a full sister to the record high seller at the Sandeen “No Bull Sale” at $60,000.00 to the BF Black Simmental and Bird Cattle Company. This heifer not only will show but go on to be the maternal Sandeen kind!

• Selling 2 sets of 3 embryos guaranteeing 1 pregnancy on each set if work is performed by a certified embryologist. • I don’t think there has ever been as much chatter and buzz about a Lot #1 feature female, as prior the Sandeen Buildin A brand sale Dec 12, 2015. Brandon Bird and BF Black Simmentals became the new owners. We could not describe her better than the Sandeen footnote, so her it is. We agree with every word. She is constructed with a great deal of elegance and a tremendous amount of stoutness from a skeletal design standpoint. She covers her tracks well with a large hoof and ample bone. She possesses a wide hip, and that massive sweeping rib cage that the Donna’s are so well noted for. Yet still has a very feminine look through her front one-third with a long neck, attractively positioned up out of the top of her shoulder. From a phenotypic and genetic standpoint, this one is right all the way. Her dam, 8386, has proven her worthiness to carry on the highly respected “Donna” family name in the Simmental breed, just as her ancestors have in the maternal sectors of the Angus. I have no doubt that Sandeen Donna 4232 will earn her own pages in the Simmental history books one day. She’s just simply bred too many generations deep with consistently productive matrons to not become one herself.

HPF Alley Joe 294D • 294D, 300C, 316C – It’s hard to make the trip to the National Western Stock Show in Denver and be named Grand Champion female, its even harder to retire to the donor pen and produce like a Champion should! Alley 247Y has done both! Her first set of ET calves were well received the first time the public evaluated them at the 2015 Living Legacy sale last fall. Tylertown Simmentals selected a April heifer calf to headline their program for $32,000 while repeat customers of Double J and Ivie selected the Brilliance out of 247Y for $22,000. The next sale a Alley 247Y daughter sold in was the Tennessee Agribition Sale, the storied program of JS Simmentals in Iowa selected a Two Step daughter for a sale topping $21,000. Back in April on our online fall heifer calf sale of course another daughter of 247Y came to the top, Lance Sublette “clicked to bid” and bought a head turning 247Y daughter for$28,000! What have you done for me lately? 14 daughters have sold in the last 10 months to average over $12,000 per head! Alley Joe 294D is sired by CCR Santa Fe, this highly anticipated mating has proven to be some of the most maternal 247Y daughters. She is sleek in her design, soft bellied and just looks like she will continue on the path to becoming a top notch breeding piece! 300C the high performing High Regard bred heifer is one you have to appreciate for her depth of body, huge foot and bone. This dandy was called safe to SS/PRS Tailgater, the calving ease Cottontail son that has had many show winners and top sellers in his first calf crop. Finally the Innocent Man daughter 316C, has all the length and extension to go with her awesome pedigree! 316C sells safe to HPF Believe It, this will bring the powerful bloodlines of Sazerac and Pays to Believe to this already stacked pedigree. Tie into one of the new and exciting cow families that HPF has to offer!

• Our 770P daughters are starting to write their own chapters and here’s a glimpse at what they are coming up with in D854. This one brings the performance back to Simmental. Extra frame, extension and pounds in this package; without sacrificing structure and function. This heifer gets better by the day and she is the kind that you pick up now, take home, and let her mature into dollars that are exponential to your initial input cost. Study your lesson here, with this kind of gene pool she might be the buy of the day at the end of it all.

• Cows with a phenotype like this will keep someone in the cow business for a long, long time; not to mention that this one is a shining genetic gem in her own right, being a direct daughter of the breed matriarch Shawnee Miss 770P. This heifer has had little to no feed her entire life and she ran with the cows all summer; in fact, the largest input that has been put into this one was the thought that went into figuring out a way to keep her fresh enough. It is really hard to make purebred Simmental cattle with this kind of moderation, smoothness, and fleshing ability. Genotypically speaking, this heifer is as unique and exciting as anything that we have to offer; being a maternal sib to Uno Mas, Big Deal, Twang and too many others to list. Her mating to CCR Anchor should be a great start to the serious return on investment possibility that lives here. It’s a sad to think, let alone write, but 770P is not going to live and produce forever; get on the bandwagon while you still can. • Bred AI to CCR Anchor 9071B, ASA#2882759 on 4/28/16. Due 1/12/17

• 284D & 342C – Where do you start a footnote on progeny out of Sazerac? Often imitated, but never duplicated the “Queen” of SimAngus cattle still is producing the breeds elite after all these years! Just look at her latest masterpiece, 284D! This baldie bombshell has it all, the champion bloodlines and the jaw dropping phenotype is just the cherry on top. When we breed every cow we want them to look like this don’t we? A deep middled, jet necked baldie that can move! 284D has caught the attention of many great breeders this summer in the pasture and I’m sure she will keep their attention in the show ring this year and next! 342C comes from a successful flush by the Janssen herdsire “Rancher”. She is elegant like her dam, Sazerac, but has the extra shape and muscle like you would expect from Rancher. She sells bred to HPF Believe It, the baldie Pays To Believe son.

She’s donor hipped, big boned, huge barreled, and chock-full of muscle; without all of the undesirable traits that usually come with those descriptors in high-percentage Simmental cattle. Her Built Right x Sheza Fantasy dam is one of our most consistent producers at current and she is on the fast track to the donor pen after this year. This attractive long bodied young lady is sure to catch your eye. The first Santa Fe daughter we have offered already stood 2nd in class at the Prestigious Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes. Whether you keep her in the show ring or front pasture this one will continue to gain in value.

• This young show and brood cow prospect is as fault free as you can make one. We purchased her dam last year from Sanders as a bred heifer and loved the results! More proof of just what these bred heifers in the sale are capable of producing! She has a sweet personality, a high API and the phenotype for the show ring, that’s the recipe for a great junior project!

Get past her impressive phenotype and on paper this one has the lineage and number counts to back it all up. Her grand dam sold through this very ring last year for $20,500 to Circle M Farms, TX. • If you’ve been around the Simmental breed very long you understand the profound impact the great Ebony Antoinette female has had on our great breed. Ebony has produced many outstanding progeny over the years, however in our opinion one female has stood out above all the rest. Of course we are referring to Magnetic Lady the matron for Sloup Simmentals. We selected set of embryos from Nick & Alan sired by the Sloup and Sanders female maker, Goldmine. This female is exactly what we had envisioned from this powerful mating. We are serious about the Simmental breed and sharing our best.

• If your not much of a risk taker may we suggest 238C! A pedigree that is timeless, and a phenotype that will never go out of style. This long necked well balanced female has always been a standout since birth. We chose to breed her to the young exciting W/C Relentless, the outcross calving ease bull produced in a program that knows a few things about raising good bulls! Buy this bred with confidence, she is a can’t miss! • Bred AI to W/C Relentless, ASA#3045559 on 4/21/16 • Pasture Exposed to HPF Believe It, ASA#2969093 from 5/1/16 to 7/4/16

• The only Pilgrim female we’ve got this year and should be keeping her. The most easy fleshing, keeping, doing one of all and disposition is puppy dog. She comes up in the pen for attention. Her 5/8 Innocent Man baby will be a great one. Enjoy this one and prosper. • Bred AI to W/C Innocent Man, ASA#2785174 on 4/15/16

You have to appreciate what this female offers, super-efficient with longevity running in her veins. Top notch F1 female for your appraisal.

Three full sibs have already averaged $6,500 per head. C512 is built for the long haul. She is long spined, big footed, perfect structured, and has that overall brood cow look we all desire with outcross genetics to boot. • Bred AI to W/C Relentless, ASA#3045559 on 5/30/16

• 332C & 336C – Here is a young donor cow at HPF that is doing a great job and has earned her spot in the HPF donor pen. Rew Way Cool was selected in this sale a few years back from the late John Rew. The Built Right x 770P pedigree needs no introduction! These two Rancher daughters out of W43 are stout and capacious and if they are anything like the ancestor’s will have gorgeous udders in production. 336C was called safe to CNS Payload, a calving ease bull with an impeccable pedigree coming from the Schick family. 332C, the baldy, was to close to call at pregnancy checking time. She was AId to SVF/HTP Packin Heat and then exposed to our new Jr Herdsire HPF/BRAM Grand Central, the outcross Grand Fortune son we bred and flushed many of our good cows to this spring! Either way it’s going to be an exciting calf in the spring! HPF Way Cool 336C
