breeders and the attendance and gross. All of this is only capable because of the dedicated group of breeders who come back year after year to showcase their operation’s genetics at the Kentucky Beef Expo. This year we have 35 great consignors with the majority being from Kentucky then our border states of Indiana and Illinois plus genetics from South Dakota. We invite you to join us on Friday afternoon for the show where you will be able to visually appraise the animals as they walk through the show ring. This is a great opportunity to put your own eyes on the lots that have caught your attention as you were flipping through the catalog. The opens will show as purebreds and percentage followed by the breds and bulls. I expect the show to be extremely good however the consistency and quality throughout the offering is the best ever. Then on Saturday morning, we will have opens, breds, bulls, and genetic lots for sale in New Market Hall. The offering is backed by some of the top cow families in the breed, and this group of consignors is working hard to continue the success of the Simmental events at the expo. Of course as you are looking through the catalog, we invite you to visit with any of the consignors of lots you might be interested in. Study the consignors page as well great breeders are represented at this years event like always. Ashley has big shoes to fill however with the strength of this family and the quality of 253E it should not a hard task. In the 2013 Ky Beef Expo Eric Gerdes judged the show and selected Welsh Scarlet as the champion. Later at the sale he purchased Scarlet as the high seller. The rest is history however Eric has done well with Scarlet now as his main donor. A daughter commanded $15,000 in the 2016 Buckles and Banners selling to the McGuirk family and she went to be a many time champion. Jason Sheetz selected an American Pride daughter for $9,000. In the this year’s North American Scarlet sons, Dew North was Reserve Champion purebred for Glacier Cattle and GSC Saughatchee was Champion % bull for the Brown family in Alabama. This is strong testimony for Gerdes Cattle Co. the owners of these champions and the cow family. So, don’t overlook this flashy individual.
