South Dakota Simmental Source 2022 Sale

Page 1

Saturday, December 17th 12:30 PM
Video sale at the Highland Conference Center, Mitchell, SD

First off, we want welcome all the 30 plus consignors to the Source sale. Some are faithful regular consignors and then some are new ones and even juniors. We encourage the new breeders be more involved in the sale and the association. In my opinion that is what the association sale has been all about over the years. The SD Association wants to assist new members and small breeders with marketing their seed stock. In this day and time with internet sales, private treaty sales, breeders production sales and all the challenges it is highly important to support your association whether you are a consignor or not. This year across state cattle breeders have been met with challenges such as shortage of rain, and all the cost that effects the entire operation. I commend all the livestock and seedstock breeders staying tough through it all. The demand for Simmental genetics is great whether thru your junior program, bull demand whether to the commercial breeders or seed stock.

I think it easy to see the enthusiasm in the SD board and the membership. The 30 plus consignors have done their part by offering their best of their individual programs. The Source sale each lot is a highlight and offers genetic merit. The sale includes strong genetic lots, opens to show or make your best cow or breds that will impress and bred to top bulls in our industry plus embryos and semen. You even get to select a heifer from 250 plus females even from a first time consignor..

I am a big proponent of state association sales so come and support as a member or even become a member. Kids get involved if you are not already showing or being a part of the AJSA. I encourage all breeders, juniors and all consignors to join us in Mitchell, SD on Dec.16th and 17th for sure it is going to a great couple of days. Plan to attend the annual meeting and banquet at the Highland Convention Center in Mitchell on Friday night and share the stories of the past and talk about the future of our great breed of cattle . Remember to all consignors and buyers this will be an all video sale with cattle at Rock Creek and the online sale at Highland. Both places are about 12 minutes apart.

Please make it to all the events from the cattle on display, banquet, meeting and the sale. Contact any of the officers of the association for assistance. If any of the DP Sales team can be of assistance call or text Drew or I. Trucking will be available to go anywhere so buyers on DV Auctions you will be taken care of on this pre-holiday sale. In this year please take advantage of the holidays include God and family. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

On behalf of the South Dakota Simmental Association board of directors, I would like to invite you to be at Mitchell. SD. for the fun filled South Dakota Simmental weekend. I always look forward to this time of year when we can get together, and visit about our spring calf crop and our 2023 bull sale. Doug and his crew have worked hard to obtain some top SD genetics plus other states with a wide variety of choices for anyone’s program. They work had to get many breeders involved in the sale whether young or old. I am proud of our SD breeders for stepping forward in being aggressive about their breeding decisions and management practices. Come Friday and take in the sale offering at Rock Creek Cattle and then the social and banquet at Highland Conference Center. As members we are proud of our increasing numbers of juniors members. Where did mine go? It happens way to fast. Come and enjoy. I along with the board and membership offer a big thank you to Steve Eichacker for his service on the ASA board representing SD and North Central region. To quote Doug, the SD Association works together for a common goal and is one of top state associations. Have a Merry Christmas and look forward to 2023.

Eagle Pass Ranch Pick of the 2022 Winter Born Heifer Calves

1I This would be a first for Eagle Pass, and it’s not likely this chance will come around again very soon.

I think there’s more than enough quality in this group of heifers to share some of the wealth, so I’ve decided to swing the gate open and let you see what’s been going on in the breeding program lately.

The pick consists of over 225 Simmental and SimAngus winter born heifer calves, including 75 ET heifers from our top donors. 50 – 3/4 or higher and 175 SimAngus™ born January 1st to March 13th. Genomic testing should be completed on all the heifers by sale time. A spreadsheet with updated EPDs and pedigree info can be provided upon request. The selection should be completed by April 1, 2023.

The opportunity to select from this level of quantity and quality of Simmental and SimAngus genetics does not happen very often. I truly believe the heifer that’s selected will have unlimited potential in any breeding or donor program and leave a lasting impact on the breed and a legacy for her new owners. Here’s a few highlights from this year’s calf crop:

I Very few progeny of ES Right Time FA110-4 have been offered publicly, but the few that have sold have made a big splash. The pick includes eight direct daughters by Right Time out of four up and coming Eagle Pass donors to sort through.

I 10 direct daughters of the now deceased, preeminent donor, GW Miss GPRD 028X (Dolly), including 3 full sisters to K-LER Dolly’s Queen 609D, the dam of the $180,000 Werning high-seller, W/C Fort Knox 609F.

I 30 direct daughters of our flagship donor, TJ 22X. She’s the donor dam of herd sires including the $85,000 EGL Firesteel 103F, EGL Fireman 111F (ABS), and TJ Arrowhead 263G (ABS), plus many more. TJ 22X is the highest income generating donor in recent history at Eagle Pass and it’s not even close. Matings by DB Iconic G95, Car Don Annuity 114, CLRS Guardian 317G, and EGL Granite City 220G highlight the offering.

I Also included in the pick are 15 daughters by EGL Firesteel 103F, along with 22 daughters and three full sisters of EGL Granite City 220G, the 2020 sale topper purchased by Krebs Ranch.

I Plus some of the first progeny offered by Bar CK Red Empire 9153G, LBRS Genesis G69, and LCDR Progressive 106G. I consignor Eagle Pass Ranch

Here is an opportunity to purchase one of the first LCDR Affirmed 212H daughters to sell. A previous standout, high seller for Chris Nicholson, we sampled this young sire and were absolutely impressed by the results. One of those is this beautifully constructed female. She’s attractive, big middled, has natural performance and great disposition to go with it. She’s already been shown successfully at our state fair by our granddaughter. She has the physical quality to be a show heifer and we are confident in her potential as a brood cow Her dam is a fantastic young cow.

I When you name her after your own daughter, you know you’re excited about this heifer. JWEB Kate’s Cow was one of the first to the ground out of our Epic/803 flush and we could not be happier. Of the group, she may not be the softest haired one, but it built for the long-haul. Powerful without sacrificing function and maternal ability. She is balanced in her EPD profile and could fit into several different breeding objectives.

I As I come in from the cold and blowing snow, I decided to write a short footnote 202K. The Jass On the Mark we purchased out of the Griswold Classic sale, a price at $12,000. Her dam was one the On the Mark females to sell. She has done a bunch of winning. County O really worked on 430K. This February born is freaking looking and will attract your attention. This female will show just like dam. This is her second calf. Please give me call or see the weekend of sale. It will be bright and sunny. I consignor Sam Hovde

I I Selling 2 sets of 5 . We had the opportunity to buy an Innovator son out of the popular Sazzy donor on Werning’s 2021 sale, and he’s been everything we hoped and more. An incredible outcross sire for improving foot size, overall power and depth, and stamping the Sazzy cow’s signature sleek front third on everyone one of Kingpin’s progeny. This first calf crop has been tremendous and we think it’s time the rest of the cattle industry gets in on this awesome bull; there is unlimited potential here! I consignor Tom Harris

I Right Time was big hit since the day he was born in Salem. Now a few years later his production record has been overwhelming with quality and high sellers up to $60, 00. This is the best bull purchase Kristi has ever had since the day she got married. Really I don’t what will happen next however the proof in Right Time is bred in for sure. In the last Eichacker sale his sons are always the high sellers. We sold over 12,000 worth of semen in the Source sale last year. Selling 5 packages of 3 units. Right Time is homo polled and homo black. I consignor CK Cattle Company
