The Gift that Gives Back The Red Scarf Scholarship Fundraiser
Know a knitter that has a passion for helping others? Our annual red scarf scholarship fundraiser has become a warm and inspiring tradition in our community, one that knits us together across the miles. The scholarship is offered to one young adult (you can read about our current student, Jelissa, here), who has graduated out of the foster care system. In partnership with Foster Care 2 Success, we are able to provide some monetary support to a student that does not have the added benefit of a family network. We are proud to share the story of each student we support and look forward to this fundraising ‘drive’ each year. This year, we’re seeking to increase the success of our efforts and asked some of our dearest designer friends to contribute designs. The first two patterns released were the Andiron Cowl and Scarf, from Kerri Blumer. Our releases for November were the Cranberry Lattice Hat, Cranberry Lattice Mitts & Cranberry Trellis Mittens from designer Mary O’Shea, another talented designer we’ve been lucky to work with in previous Ensemble rounds! The fourth pattern, the Mayberry Cap, designed by Kate Atherley, designer, author, and Lead Technical Editor of Knitty magazine. The final design is the Bottoms Up Booties, designed by Anne Hanson. 100% of the proceeds will go to the scholarship until 1/1/18. These designs are available in kits that come with everything needed to make them, and are perfect for gifting! Checkout this year’s designs on the following pages, and learn more about the Festivus 4.0 yarn as well!
Andiron Cowl The Andiron Cowl, designed by Kerri Blumer, is a playful take on your favorite winter neckwarmer. You'll need just one skein of our worsted weight Festivus 4.0 and a few evenings to whip up this winter topper, making it a favorite for gifting or keeping. Click here to purchase the pattern or click here to purchase the kit.
Andiron Scarf The Andiron Scarf, designed by Kerri Blumer, is a handsomely textured piece with dimensional cables along the outside edges. Easy knitting combined with worsted weight yarn will have this scarf flying off your needles in no time! This classic scarf is sure to be a favorite winter wardrobe staple for years to come. Mayberry Cap The Mayberry, designed by Kate Atherly, features a fun cable motif embedded into the all-over ribbing, adding a bit of interest, but not too much extra effort! Click here to purchase the pattern or click here to purchase the kit.
Cranberry Trellis Cap The Cranberry Trellis Cap, designed by Mary O’Shea, is a fun, unisex, colorwork hat worked in three colors. The Festivus sport weight yarn pops against the neutral cream and gray Confection sport. The stripes around the brim paired with the lattice pattern give the design a sporty look, perfect for staying warm on game nights or for a cool walk in the crisp winter air. Cranberry Lattice Mitts & Cranberry Trellis Mittnes The Cranberry Trellis Handwarmers, also by Mary O’Shea, designed to complement the Cranberry Trellis Cap, these festive handwarmers are the perfect gift for yourself or someone you love. The colorful patterning, worked in a combination of our sport-weight Festivus yarn and Confection Sport, keeps fingers toasty on long walks and winter nights. This pattern is sold paired with the Cranberry Trellis Mittens. Mary O’Shea's Cranberry Trellis Mittens have a hemmed cuff that includes a turning round, giving them a beautiful picot edge. The cuff features Festivus sport weight as the background, then leads into a beautiful 'trellis' pattern on the hand, where the beautiful reds take center stage. The lattice pattern from the hat and hand warmer is echoed in the thumb of these mitts, bringing the set full circle. Click here to purchase the pattern or click here to purchase the kit. Bottoms Up Booties These quick to knit booties are lots of fun to work in one color or two—just the motivation you need when a gifting deadline is on the horizon. These warm slippers designed by Anne Hanson are just what’s needed after a long day of outdoor winter activity. Hug the feet you love best by knitting up a cozy pair. Festivus 4.0
One of the best elements of each year’s Red Scarf Fundraiser is the uniquely dyed yarn offering, Festivus. This year’s Festivus 4.0 has been expertly colored by the extremely talented Julie Asselin. Her sense of rich color is enhanced by our uniquelyspun, gradient 100% Merino. Available in 2 weights - Sport and Worsted - each skein is an individual exploration into luscious red tones. This stunning colorway, Cranberry Crush, is only available for a limited time while we have it in stock. A percentage of each yarn sale also goes into the Knitspot Scholarship Fund until 1/1/18.
