FLOWERS
From the Manager
GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYONE AND WISHING YOU ALL WELL AHEAD OF THIS AFTERNOON’S MATCH WITH ALTRINCHAM. THESE TIMES ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND I WANT TO WISH EVERYONE GOOD HEALTH, IN WHAT IS A SAD TIME FOR OUR COUNTRY. Football feels almost secondary at the moment, but we know that a win today will go a long way to putting smiles on our fans faces, which is what sport is all about. It’s been tricky with the amount of games postponed, but the boys have worked extremely hard in training during this break. The important thing is that everyone is healthy and ready for action this afternoon’s match. I’ve been delighted with the difference in atmosphere since I came in and the ingredients are starting to come together for us to get ourselves out of this situation. I’m delighted to have welcomed some new faces into the group and those additions will certainly help our cause going forward. There’s talent in this squad but football isn’t played on paper, so it’s about time we put into action on the pitch. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone associated with the vaccination at The
Hive. That starts with the Chairman, the NHS staff and of course the volunteers around the place. They’re doing an amazing job in helping the most vulnerable, saving lives and helping our country head towards some sort of normality again. We can take great inspiration from that effort and we need to show some of that in our performances on the pitch. I’m under no illusions how tough of a game this will be, they’ll be difficult to come up against. They’ve made a strong start to the season, so we need to be at our best if we’re going to get anything from the game. This is a great football club and I intend to make our supporters proud of our team again. Bye for now,
Tim

DUNNE
From the Captain AFTERNOON BARNET FANS AND I HOPE YOU’RE TUNING IN FROM HOME FOR OUR GAME WITH ALTRINCHAM. It’s nice to be back in action again and I’m hoping we can end our terrible run of form. We’ve been working really hard in training recently and the background set up has been immense. Now we need repay that set up by putting a shift in and getting those points. The training has been great and we all feel really prepared for the challenge ahead this afternoon. It’ll be another tough game, they’re a good side but we need to start being a good side and becoming hard to beat. It’s been great to have some new additions in the dressing room. I’ve been really impressed with what they’ve offered both on and off the pitch, they look like they’ll certainly add something to us, they are big units as well! I just want to thank you all for your continued support. It’s tough without you but hopefully soon we can have you back. For now it’s all about being safe and looking after yourselves and your families. I’m hoping you’ll have plenty to smile about come 17:30 this evening. Keep cheering us on and thanks again!

CHESTERFIELD AWAY POSTCARD As a classic league two Northern away day, Chesterfield is a place I’ve been to many times and at two different grounds too! You always know when you’re arriving into Chesterfield as you drive past the twisted spire on the church. Their old ground was nearer the town centre so when they played there we often got to Chesterfield early so we could spend a bit of time in the town centre. My Mum always likes to tell the story of seeing Martin Platt from Coronation Street selling cheese in the market one year! The first time we went to their old ground, we weren’t sure of the way to walk and this was in the days before smart phones. A police officer told us to follow the hordes of fans! This was followed by a laugh of course because as we know, there are few places in league two where you can actually be guided by fans to the stadium! A game that definitely stands out in my memory is our game against them in 2010 as it was their first competitive fixture at the Protract Stadium. Chesterfield released MANY balloons pre-kick off and sold a commemorative matchday programme. We lost 2-1 with Glenn Poole scoring his only goal for the club. Even though we lost, it was a great day to be a part of as it was such a big occasion for their club. Another match which definitely stands out was our away game there in summer 2018. It was a lovely day and we were in search of our first win of the season. The game had 0-0 written all over it until the 90th minute when Jack Taylor did what he does best and banged the ball into the top corner. Everyone was buzzing and we finally had our first win of the season! Chesterfield has provided me with many good memories and I was so disappointed I couldn’t go on the 12th as it was my birthday weekend so naturally I had been planning it for a while. Although after the 6-0 defeat, I think it’s fair to say it wouldn’t have matched up to some of my other memories at Chesterfield and I don’t think it’s one I’ll be reminiscing about in years to come. With Flowers now in charge and the New Year upon us, here’s hoping that the second half of our season picks up.

Shane Gore GORE BEGAN HIS CAREER AT WIMBLEDON, MAKING HIS ONLY APPEARANCE FOR THE CLUB IN THE 01-02 SEASON AS A SUBSTITUTE IN A 6–2 DEFEAT TO GRIMSBY TOWN where his first touch was to save a penalty on his League debut. In the 03-04 season Gore was sent on a onemonth loan to non-league St Albans City, playing once; a one-month loan to Peterborough United where he was an unused substitute; then finally North London to conference side Barnet Fc on a season-long loan, where he made a more successful 28 league appearances. That season Barnet lost on Penalties unfortunately to Shrewsbury Town Fc in the playoff semi-finals, where he was given Man of the Match in both legs. Gore had finally seemed to find his level of football.
end of the season on 15th January 2010. He made his debut for Luton in the FA Cup in a 3–3 draw with Rochdale on 7th November 2009 and kept a clean sheet in a 2–0 replay victory four days later. A single substitute league appearance followed on 30 January, though he failed to break into the first team again and was released from his contract on 7th May 2010.
Gore then moved onto several clubs, playing for Conference South clubs Havant and Waterlooville and Maidenhead United , as well as Isthmian Premier side East Thurrock United.
In July 2016 and after making more than 300 appearances for Chesham, Gore then signed for Wingate and Finchley of the Isthmian League Premier. I was lucky enough to see him play and he always pulled off magnificent saves and commanded the back line well although was never eager to come off his line
In the Summer of 2010, he signed for Chesham United of the Southern Premier League. In August 2015, Gore signed on dual registration with After being released from Wimbledon at the end Conference South side Wealdstone. After only one of the season, Gore signed for Barnet permanently appearance, Gore was recalled to Chesham but on a one-year contract and was a member of their then shortly after, another loan spell occurred, this Conference-winning side in the 04-05 campaign time at Hungerford. After returning and cementing but was then released and left Underhill for the last his place, Gore played his part in an historic Fa time. The following season Gore decided to go to Cup 1st round victory over League Two side Bristol local rivals Stevenage Borough but only managed a Rovers before finally going on to lose to Bradford disappointing 3 appearances in the second round.
After turning down a new contract at Maidenhead in the summer of 2009, Gore was offered a trial with Conference side Luton Town by manager Mick Harford , who was a coach at Wimbledon at the time Gore was on the fringes of the first team. He signed an initial one-month contract with Luton on 7th August, acting as an understudy to Mark Tyler. In September 2009, his contract was extended on a month-by-month basis, before signing until the
After four years with Wingate, Gore signed for Chestnut where he is still playing today. The 39 year old is still going strong in his 20th season as a keeper in England.

TODAY’S OPPOSITION to the Football League by the vagaries of the re-election system in place at that time (1980 and 1981). Prior to their 2018 promotion, Altrincham’s other three promotions had come in differing ways. In 1999 they were promoted as champions of the Northern Premier League and in 2005 they won the one and only Conference North v Conference South play-off against Eastbourne Borough. The second spell at national level lasted just one season (1999-2000) when they were relegated on the last day of the season despite having had a 14-game unbeaten run in mid-season and finishing the campaign with just 14 defeats, one fewer than fifth-placed Kingstonian! In 2014 they were promoted by winning the play-offs in National League North, a feat repeated in 2020. After narrowly qualifying for the nascent Conference North in 2004, Altrincham’s third spell at national level comprised a highly eventful six seasons (2005/6-2010/11) in which Altrincham finished in the relegation places four times but were only demoted once. Despite being one of only a handful of part-time clubs, Altrincham finished a very creditable 18th in the Conference National in 2005-06, only to be deprived of any satisfaction at their achievement when they were deducted 18 points for playing James Robinson, who had joined Alty from Accrington Stanley but had not got international clearance from a previous spell in Iceland. The deduction meant Altrincham were placed bottom of the league and set to be relegated.
In 2020-21 Altrincham FC play in the Vanarama National League, following promotion from the National League North, via the play-offs, at the end of the 2019-20 campaign. Having been formed in 1948 following the amalgamation Before that Altrincham FC had spent a total of 28 seasons at the national level (Step One) of non-League football in four spells at that level. But in 2016 they had suffered their latest relegatiuon from Step One and this was followed by an immediate relegation to Step Three the following season. However, the appointment of manager Phil Parkinson and his assistant Neil Sorvel had secured the NPL title in 2018 and an unsuccessful play-off place in 2019 before promotion in 2020. The Club continues to operate as a part-time team. Historically, Altrincham had been founder members of the Alliance (forerunner of the Football Conference) from its inception in 1979 till relegated in 1997. In fact they won the Alliance in its first two seasons, only being denied elevation
But the demise of Canvey Island and then the demotion of Scarborough gave Altrincham a late reprieve at the Conference AGM in June 2006 and they played again in the national division in 2006-07. This time, despite amassing 51 points, they finished fourth-bottom and again looked to be set for relegation. But, once more, financial shortcomings at another club saved them when Boston United were forcibly demoted to Conference North from League Two. In 200708 Altrincham finished 21st so faced relegation for a third season in succession before, yet again, they were reprieved, as Halifax Town’s financial problems saw the Shaymen slide into liquidation. Under Lee Sinnott, Altrincham regained their top-flight status for 2014/15 season but at the end of the following season they suffered their fourth relegation from national to northern level since 1997. They then dropped to the Northern Premier League for the following season (2017/18) before an immediate promotion back to the National North. Nicknamed “The Robins”, the Club holds the FA Cup giantkilling record, being the current non-League club with most Football League “scalps” (seventeen) in the competition. (For details see below). The Club has also been a founder member of several leagues, including the Cheshire County League, Northern Premier League and the Alliance/Football Conference leagues as well as the Football Conference (Nationwide) North division.

Tony THOMPSON TALENTED YOUNG GOALKEEPER TONY JOINED ALTY IN THE SUMMER OF 2017 AFTER APPEARING IN SEVERAL PRESEASON GAMES. After initially acting as an understudy to Tim Deasy, he soon established himself as Phil Parkinson’s first choice goalkeeper and was a key part of the EvoStik title winning squad. Before joining the Robins, Tony had began his career with Rotherham United. He gained experience on loan out at Curzon Ashton, Ossett Town, Chelmsford City and Southport. He later transferred to Morecambe where he made two professional appearances before making the move to Chester and then AFC Fylde from where he went out on loan to Warrington Town.
Tom HANNIGAN TOM IS THE ONLY REMAINING ALTY PLAYER TO HAVE BEEN SIGNED BY NEIL YOUNG. A dependable centre-back, he initially struggled with a series of injuries, before returning for the end of season run-in, helping the Robins earn promotion. Tom began his career with Tranmere Rovers before playing for Vauxhall Motors and AFC Fylde. At Fylde, he was named “Player of the Season” by his manager.
Josh HANCOCK ATTACKING MIDFIELDER JOSH FOLLOWED PHIL PARKINSON TO THE CLUB FROM NANTWICH. He began the season by scoring four goals in the first six games and provided good competition for Jordan Hulme for the coveted position of top goal scorer. Josh began his career in Nantwich’s youth team before playing for Winsford United and Witton Albion. He later had a spell with AFC Telford before returning to Witton. He then played for Salford City before joining Nantwich once again.
Tom PEERS FORWARD TOM JOINED ALTY IN 2017 AND ESTABLISHED HIMSELF AS SOMETHING OF A “SUPER SUB” OFTEN COMING OFF THE BENCH TO SCORE. He scored 11 times in his first season and provided an extra option on the wing or up front for the Robins. Tom began his career with Chester City, progressing from the youth team to the first team before gaining experience during spells on loan at 1874 Northwich, Marine, Salford City and Hednesford. Following his departure from Chester, he joined Hednesford before moving on to AFC Telford. Later, he played for Warrington and Droylsden before joining Nantwich. He spent the summer of 2018 on loan from Alty to American side New Orleans Jesters.
What’s the Buzz Josh Palmer
Earlier this month, former Bees manager, Champions League winner and Netherlands legend started his second managerial position, and his first since leaving the Hive on 18th January 2014. Almost seven years to the say since leaving us, on 4th January 2021, Davids joined S.C. Olhanense, based in the town of Olhao, several miles away from Faro in the Algarve region of Portugal as of time of writing (20th January), Davids has played two matches, resulting in a win and a draw. Olhanense currently compete in the Campeonato de Portugal league, the third tier of Portuguese football, of which they finished 5th in the last completed season (2018/19, as 2019/20 was abandoned due to the virus). They play at the 5,661 capacity Estadio Jose Arcanjo, and play in black and red kits.
Another former Bee on the move recently is former favourite Mark Hughes. The former Northern Ireland international midfielder played 129 times, scoring 7 times, including the famous goal away at Burton in 2012 to keep the Bees in the Football League. After departing Underhill that summer, he would then spend time playing at Eastleigh, Chelmsford City, Eastbourne Borough and Bishop’s Stortford, before becoming a player coach at Cheshunt, where he was also promoted to assistant manager. This week has seen him now depart the Hertfordshire based Isthmian League Premier side and join National League South side as assistant manager only. He joins the Essex club as part of the staff of new manager Kevin Watson, the former Tottenham Hotspur, Reading, Colchester United and of course Barnet player.
With the fourth round of the FA Trophy now having been completed, the schedule for the fifth round of the competition has been finalised. Hornchurch, of the Isthmian League Premier, are the joint lowest ranked club left in the competition, and have been handed a home tie against National League South side Maidstone United. The other lowest ranked side, Peterborough Sports, of the Southern League Premier Central, have also been drawn against a National League South side, this time away to Oxford City. National League leaders Torquay United, who beat our rivals Boreham Wood 4-0 away on Tuesday night, have been rewarded with an away game at Southport. Notts County will be away at Havant and Waterlooville, Wealdstone will be at Darlington, and there will be an all National League North tie between Hereford and Leamington.
Rated Excellent On TrustPilot
The only confirmed all National League Premier tie is Sutton United against Woking. As of time of writing, only one fourth round tie remains, that being Boston United vs Chesterfield, with the winning travelling to Aldershot Town in round five. If the Spirites were to win, that would set up a second tie of clubs in non leagues’ top flight.
In other news this week, it has been revealed that Truro City will yet again move out of their Treyew Road ground, as well as moving out of the county of Cornwall completely. With a repeat of their sitatuation in 2018, when they agreed to groundshare at Plainmoor with Torquay United (Devon), with both sides in the National League South that season. However, a new deal with supermarket chain Lidl, will see the club move home again, this time to Bolitho Park, the home of Plymouth Parkway, until next year. This move is expected to run until at least next year, when it is expected that the White Tigers will move into their newly built home – the Stadium of Cornwall, a groundshare with the Cornish Pirates rugby union side. Truro currently compete in the Southern League Premier South.
It has been revealed that the FA are looking into Tuesday nights’ FA Trophy fourth round tie between Kettering Town and Leamington, at the Community Stadium, having already been switched from Latimer Park due to failed pitch inspection in Northamptonshire. The match was marred by several incidents, including the floodlights failing, resulting in a two hour delay, an incident which saw Poppies’ captain Michael McGrath appear to strike the referee on the chest, and three red cards for Kettering. Due to the various incidents, the match finally ended at 23.22pm, despite havingkicked off at 19.45, giving the match a time of 3 hours 37 minutes. Leamington eventually won 3-0, thanks to goals in the first half an hour of the match, including one in the first minute.

Match Report 0 BARNET FC
THE BEES FELL TO A 3-0 DEFEAT TO BOREHAM WOOD IN THEIR FIRST GAME OF 2021. KABONGO TSHIMANGA GAVE HIS SIDE THE LEAD AFTER CATCHING ONTO A LONG BALL AND EVEN ADDED A SECOND GOAL ABOUT TEN MINUTES LATER FROM THE PENALTY SPOT WHERE MYLES JUDD WAS ALSO SENT OFF. JUST BEFORE THE BREAK THE VISITORS TOOK THE GAME AWAY FROM THE BEES, WHEN TOM CHAMPION ADDED A THIRD AND SO WERE ABLE TO SEE OUT THE SECOND HALF AND CLINCH THE WIN.
HOW IT HAPPENED

on the line, which was then tucked away by Tshimanga for his and his sides 2nd of the game. Five minutes before half time, Loach ensured the Bees stayed in the game, with an unbelievable stop to deny Tshimanga from getting his hat trick. But things went from bad to worse for the Bees when Champion scored on the volley just outside the area, with two minutes remaining of the first half. The second half didn’t get off to the greatest of starts for the Bees, as Josh Walker was forced to come off, after receiving a knock.
The Bees were looking to get their first win of the new year, having not played since the FA Trophy defeat to Dorking Wanderers back on December 19th.
Chances for both sides however were coming few and far between, with Boreham Wood holding most of the ball, with the Bees doing all they could to contain them.
The match itself was started well by the Bees, holding a good shape and trying to break through the Boreham Wood defence.
The Bees were unlucky to be denied a penalty with about 25 minutes left of the game to play, when Effiong was taken down in the box.
There was certainly an intensity, which was to be expected of a local derby as both sides fought hard to win the ball and win every decision.
Loach was doing a fantastic job to keep out Boreham Wood from increasing their lead any further, making a number of crucial saves.
Tshimanga had the games first real opportunity of the game on 12 minutes for the visitors, when he was played in clear on goal, only for Scott Loach to save well, from the low powerful effort.
The Bees were unable to take advantage of this up the other end of the pitch, having very little in the way of a clear cut chance, meaning they were unable to cut the deficit down, as Boreham Wood held out for the 3-0 win.
Just over five minutes later, they had their lead, after a long ball from goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore found its way to Tshimanga who slotted home to put his side in front. Boreham Wood really started putting the pressure on, firing shot after shot on the Barnet goal, with Loach producing a fantastic double save. This was before the visitors were awarded a penalty and Judd was sent off for handling the ball
