SIAN OSMOND

HEAD COACH SIAN OSMOND

SIAN OSMOND

Sian, we have one game left of the season. What are your thoughts going into it? “We are all excited to get back in action after another weekend without a game. “The group have been working really hard in training to try and end this season on a positive note. “Preparation has been good and we have looked at some things that we needed to improve on from the Ipswich Town match. “We have also given ourselves the opportunity to assess our game plan for this Sunday. “We have had a few players returning from injury which is great and we should have a strong squad to pick from at the weekend.” I know the season is not finished yet, but have you had some time to reflect on it as a whole? “I have not really had the chance to properly go back and reflect on the season just yet. “It is definitely something that we will look to do as staff and as a team. “We have done a bit of work with the players based on how they have found the environment which is great feedback to receive. “You can definitely see how the team has progressed and grown from where we were at the beginning of the year. “It was a really tough start to the season and you can see from the results that we have been gradually improving. “We understand that this Sunday’s game is very important to us, which is where our attention should be at this moment in time.”

How eager are the players to put the Ipswich result behind us through a positive performance this Sunday, especially given that there is something riding on it? “The players are excited to rise to the challenge and they know what we require out of the game. “They have been resilient to the tough tests that have come our way this year and I expect this Sunday to be no different. “They have pulled through their individual challenges as a group which shows the strength of this team.” What sort of challenges are you expecting from Plymouth Argyle? “Plymouth had a great result where they scored a lot of goals at Hounslow, which proves that they will be a threat in the final third. “They have a very quick frontline which is something that we must counteract. “We expect them to come out strong given that they also have something riding on the game. “They will also be eager to end their season with a win, so it is going to be a hard-fought match.” This Sunday marks our final fixture of this season, so a lot of credit must go to our supporters for getting behind us since our first match at Keynsham Town? “It has been amazing to have the support from our fans all season. “We really appreciate their continued backing of us and we are hoping that they will be out in full force again on Sunday to get us over the line.”

WHAT’S THE Buzz

WHAT’S THE Buzz Shelina Zadorsky, who plays for Tottenham Hotspur, has agreed take up an option for a oneyear contract extension. This means that the 29-year-old Canada international will stay until next summer. Having signed initially on loan from Orlando Pride in 2020, she signed permanently shortly after.

Anita Asante, the former England international, has announced that she will be retiring at the end of the season. Having spent her club career in England, the USA and Sweden, she has spent the last two years with Aston Villa. She started out her first team career with Arsenal back in 2003 which was followed by spells at Chelsea, Sky Blue, Saint Louis Athletica, Chicago Red Stars, Washington Freedom, Sky Blue again, Goteborg, Rosengard then a return to Chelsea. She also made 71 caps for England, and five for the Team GB Olympic team. The first legs of the Champions League semifinals took place last week, with the second legs set to take place this weekend. Barcelona find themselves 5-1 up over five time finalists and twice winners VfL Wolfsburg, whilst seven time winners Olympique Lyon are 3-2 up against national rivals PSG. The final is due to be held on 21st May at the Allianz Stadium - the home of Juventus.

WHAT’S THE Buzz

Liverpool have been crowned champions of the Championship and have been promoted a year after getting relegated into it. Their 16 wins and 4 draws see them with 52 points going into the final match of the season this weekend, having lost just once in the league all season. Liverpool have just one game left, away to Lewes, and are 14 points ahead of second placed London City Lionesses. Meanwhile, at the other end of the Championship table, this afternoon’s fixtures will confirm which side gets relegated. This season only the bottom side goes does, and both of the bottom two sides play against each other today. Watford, who are 11th, take on Coventry United at Watford. The Hornets go in on top with 11 points, whilst Coventry go into the day with nine.

This past week has seen Barcelona break their own record for attendance in a women’s football match. Last month saw 91,553 attend Barca’s Champions League quarter-final tie with Real Madrid, but last week’s semi-final against VfL Wolfsburg saw 91,648 attend – breaking the record by 95. Both fixtures took place at the Nou Camp.
