FLOWERS
From the Manager
GOOD EVENING ALL AND I HOPE YOU’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS EVENINGS MATCH WITH YEOVIL TOWN. I’D LIKE TO WELCOME DARREN AND ALL HIS PLAYER AND STAFF TO THE HIVE FOR THIS EVENINGS GAME. I felt the commitment and attitude shown by the boys on Saturday we much better, but to be honest that’s the minimum requirement. We had to show a reaction to what was a terrible evening at Kings Lynn and I felt attitude wise we certainly achieved that on Saturday. We did create chances on Saturday and at 0-0 we had a golden chance to go ahead, then we stayed in the game at 1-0 and could have snatched an equaliser towards the end. Ultimately we are of course disappointed with the result but now we have to try to react this evening and match our attitude levels, but show a little more in the game tonight. It’s another tough game this evening, against a side who have done well to turn their fortunes around in recent weeks. We can take heart with the performances we’ve shown at The Hive, there hasn’t been many games where I haven’t been pleased with the application we’ve shown in our home matches. We of course played well in our win here two weeks ago, so we have to match our effort levels we showed in that game and that will give us a good platform this evening. Thanks for your continued support, I’m giving everything to make you proud.

The Captain JAMES
DUNNE
From the Captain GOOD EVENING ALL AND VIRTUALLY I GIVE MY BEST WISHES TO ALL OF OUR SUPPORTERS DURING THIS PERIOD. I hope we can give you something to smile about this evening because quite simply we haven’t done that enough this season. Us as player have to take responsibility for how we’ve performed, it’s not good enough and the proof is in the pudding enough words have been spoken, so we have to put it into action. I thought we showed a reaction on Saturday, we did well to stay in the game and on another day, it could have been different, and we could have snatched a point in the end with the chances that we created. I felt that we started the game well, before conceding a pretty disappointing goal from our point of view. Then we did well to keep ourselves in the match and looked to play on the breakaway, we had a couple of chances and could have snatched something from them. Ultimately though the result wasn’t good enough and we let ourselves and you down again. It’s another tough game this evening, Yeovil has done really well to turn their season around after a really difficult start to the campaign. They play a good style and they’ll try to stretch the play and get on the front foot. But we saw against FC Halifax Town that once we get in front, that we have it in us to see the game out and go to take the points. Let’s hope we can give you something to cheer about this evening!

Match Report 1 HARTLEPOOL UNITED
IN AN OPEN 20 MINUTES PERIOD AT THE START OF THE MATCH BOTH SIDES SHOWED PLENTY OF ENDEAVOUR BUT DIDN’T CREATE ANY CLEAR CUT OPENINGS.
HOW IT HAPPENED The hosts went close on 27 minutes as Luke Armstrong met a dangerous cross, but Scott Loach was equal to his effort as he made a fantastic reflex save. Up the other end, it was the Bees who were next fashion an opening as JJ Hooper broke clear but couldn’t find the finish as Ben Killip made a good save to deny him. On 32 minutes it was the Pools who took the lead as a break down the left-hand side was eventually turned in from six yards by Armstrong. It could have been two just a minute letter, as a carbon copy attack was this time turned over from almost the same position by Rhys Oates. The hosts continued to press as the half drew to a close and thanks to Loach the score was kept at one, as he denied Gavan Holohan. Tim Flowers’ men looked threatening on the break but didn’t create enough clear cut openings in the opening 45. Into the second half and it was the hosts who created the first opening, as Holohan found space in the area for a shot, but a brave block from Liam Daly denied him. The Bees themselves were looking to use the pace of Petrasso on the
0 BARNET FC
breakaway, as they looked to forge a way back into the match. Moments later it was Oates who went close as he flicked Jamie Sterry’s cross just wide of the far post. Meanwhile, up the other end, Myles Judd’s dangerous cross just evaded the sliding Hooper who was darting into the danger area. The Pools continued to push throughout the half, but the Bees stood strong and managed to keep chances at a premium for the hosts who continued to find good areas out wide. Second-half substitute Ep created the Bees clearest opening of the second half, as he came forward before finding Courtney Baker-Richardson, but the Barrow loanee’s strike went over the crossbar. As time ticked on Pools substitute Luke Molyneux fired a curling effort wide from just inside the area when he should have found the target after the dangerous Sterry played a great pull-back into the area. The hosts had a golden chance to finish the game off with a minute left on the clock, but Armstrong somehow managed to miss despite having an open goal to tap home into. The Bees tried to threaten as time ticked away but couldn’t snatch an equaliser and ultimately left Victoria Park empty handed.

Walking football
BARNET OVER 50’S As the prospects of walking football returning look brighter, we look back 3 years to our first ever match in front of a crowd, back in February 2018.
Hendon WFT 0-2 Barnet 40 minute match Silver Jubilee Park When the draw for the Middlesex senior cup semi-final saw Barnet Fc drawn away at Hendon FC , we were honoured by our neighbour’s chairman suggesting that a walking football match be played on the pitch before the match. So, on a cold Wednesday evening, the Barnet WFT made the short journey of 10 mins to our Middlesex neighbours, in true derby spirit we played out a hard-fought victory against a strong Hendon team. The game started even with Hendon peppering our goal and Nick Krieger pulling off a succession of excellent saves. Finally, a long ball from Shaun was allowed to run out of play by the Hendon defence but Brian Spenceley never gave up and stopped the ball on the touchline and crossed for Steve Chittenden to fire home our opening goal. After some strong “derby “ tackles, we broke clear with Steve C setting up Brian Spenceley to fire home the second., We played keep ball for spells of the game to negate Hendon and ensured that we secured an excellent 2-0 win. Thanks to ref Mike Moate assisted by Peter Speroni and of course our manager Thomas Bentley It was an amazing experience playing in front of a partisan home crowd who shouted out some wonderful comments to us during the match. But in the true spirit of the game, drinks were ordered for us in the bar and we look forward to a return fixture when it is safe to do so.
TODAY’S OPPOSITION Yeovil Town were formed in 1895 with the club initially joining the Somerset Senior League, nicknamed “The Glovers” due to the long history of glove making in the town The club first got promoted to the Conference after finishing as champions in 1987-88, before eventually getting relegated in 1995. It was in 1990 the club moved into their current home ‘Huish Park’, with a capacity of 9,565. Much of the club’s success has been in this stadium and is also home to the clubs Ladies team. The Glovers then got promoted again two years later after winning the Isthmian League again. The early 2000’s was a particularly success spell for the club, winning the 2002 FA Trophy Final and were promoted to the Football League for the first time in the 2002/03 campaign under Gary Johnson’s management. Winning the League Two title in 2004/05 as the club continued it’s rise.
Yeovil then went onto the reach the Championship after victory at Wembley in the League One play-off final in 2013 with Johnson back in charge of the club. Successive relegations followed as the club spiraled down to now find themselves in the National League 6 years later. However, the club have had a superb start to the season in the National League under new management of Darren Sarll as the Glovers aim to get straight back into the Football League.

SARLL
The Manager
MARKING THE START OF A NEW CHAPTER AT HUISH PARK Darren Sarll was appointed as the club’s new manager in June 2019. Signing a three-year contract, Darren has been tasked with rebuilding the first team for its first campaign outside of the EFL in 16 years. The 36-year-old boasts a strong reputation for developing young players and possesses a 15-year coaching career that has included spells at the likes of Brentford, Rotherham United and Stevenage. Spending the majority of his coaching career at Broadhall Way, Sarll progressed
to be the club’s first team manager between 2016 and 2018, guiding Boro to a 10th place finish in 2016/17 whilst earning widespread plaudits for developing youth talents such as Ben Wilmot and Ben Kennedy, with the club receiving a seven-figure fee for the former’s move to Premier League outfit Watford. Most recently Head of Academy at Watford himself, Darren headed to the South West to lead the club’s assault in the National League for 2019/20.

Lee Collins ONE OF DARREN SARLL’S FIRST SIGNINGS AS GLOVERS MANAGER Experienced defender Lee Collins agreed a two-year deal at Huish Park. The 30-year-old played a part in helping Forest Green Rovers to the League Two play-offs last season but has now made the short trip to Somerset. Having played the entirety of his career in the EFL amassing over 350 league appearances, Collins has been handed the captaincy for 2019/20. Able to operate all across the back four and in defensive midfield, he started out at Wolves prior to helping Hereford United to promotion from League Two whilst on loan at Edgar Street. A four-year stay at Port Vale followed where Collins made over 120 appearances, before spending time in the Championship with Barnsley. Stints at Shrewsbury, Northampton and Mansfield followed prior to joining Forest Green in May 2017. In Summer 2020, alongside fellow centre back Luke Wilkinson, Collins extended his stay for an extra year.
Lawson D’Ath MIDFIELDER LAWSON D’ATH REJOINED THE CLUB FOR A SECOND SPELL IN 2019 SIGNING A TWOYEAR DEAL. Back at Huish Park seven years after originally joining on loan, the 26-year-old signs a two-year deal after a successful period away from Somerset. Having made his EFL debut in green and white in 2012, the versatile midfielder has gone on to win promotion at all three of his last clubs. League Two titles were lifted at Northampton and Luton where he made over 100 appearances at both clubs combined, before making it a trio of promotions at MK Dons last season as they secured a return to League One. D’Ath will now look to add to the 14 appearances made under Terry Skiverton whilst on loan from Reading, taking the number eight jersey.
Albi Skendi SNAPPED UP FROM STRATFORD TOWN, UTLITITY MAN ALBI SKENDI SIGNED HIS FIRST PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT WITH THE GLOVERS IN 2019. Able to operate across midfield, in defence and up front, the 25-year-old joins the Glovers after helping Stratford to their highest ever league finish in the club’s history, starring in 2018/19. With previous spells at Oxford City and Banbury United as well as stints in America with Los Angeles Wolfs and Marymount California University, the 6’4” utility man now heads to Somerset on a permanent basis.
Rhys Murphy SOUGHT AFTER STRIKER RHYS MURPHY WAS SNAPPED UP BY THE GLOVERS THIS SUMMER SIGNING A TWO-YEAR DEAL. The 28-year-old scored 28 goals in a superb last campaign at Chelmsford City in the National League South. He started out at Arsenal and spent time on loan at Brentford and Preston. Before a season overseas in Holland with Telstar. He returned to England to play for Oldham, Crawley where he scored 9 goals in 15 appearances, AFC Wimbledon winning promotion to League One and Forest Green. All before spells at York, Torquay and Gillingham, until joining Chelmsford where he starred for the Essex club.
What’s the Buzz Josh Palmer
Former Bee Curtis Weston has this week signed a new contract with Chesterfield. The midfielder, now 34 years old, scored 25 times in 228 appearances in a Bees shirt, spread across six years, making him a fans favourite. Signing ahead of the 2012/13 season, playing the full 90 minutes in the final match at Underhill at the end of that season, as well as playing in all 46 games as we won the Conference two years later, before departing the Hive in 2018, to join Martin Allen at Chesterfield. His new contract will see him remain with the Spirities until the end of next season.
With the results of the vote being revealed at the end of last week, it has been announced that all leagues between steps three and step six will be ended early, just as last season. The results of the vote showed that more than three out of every four voted in favour of ending the season now, if games could not be played in front of supporters until 1st April. The FA also stated that continuing the season into the summer, after the previously scheduled May end, would not be a viable option, with almost 75% of matches still left to play across steps five and six, with that figure being as high as 81% across steps 3 and 4.
Leyton Orient have appointed former Jamaica international and Premier League player Jobi McAnuff as their new interim manager. This comes after the side parted company with Ross Embleton on Saturday, following the sides’ 3-1 home defeat to Tranmere Rovers, extending their winless run to seven matches. McAnuff featured for Jamaica 32 times, scoring once, and won the 2014 Caribbean Cup, as well as helping Reading to promotion from the Championship in 2012, playing all 38 top flight games the following season. He has also featured for the original Wimbledon, West Ham United, Cardiff City, Crystal Palace, and Watford, initially joining the O’s in the summer of 2014, before departing to spend a season with Stevenage. He the n returned to Brisbane Road, and has made a combined total of 143 appearances for the side, with 18 goals. His first game in charge is a trip to Grimsby Town in League Two tonight.

Newport County have said that they intend to try to move some of their upcoming home games away from Rodney Parade. This comes after the condition of the pitch has been criticised by many, even with County manager Mike Flynn saying that it is currently in the worst condition he has ever seen it. The Welsh side are set to be in contact with the English Football League board to discuss the matter in the near future. The stadium is also home to Dragons RFC and Newport RFC, the city’s two rugby union sides. County first moved into the ground in 2012, after vacating the Newport Stadium, where they had played since their reformation in 1989, when they were unable to play at their old Somerton Park stadium.
Another former Premier League player taking charge of a League Two side this week is Wayne Brown, who takes charge at Colchester United. Brown joins the U’s on a caretaker basis, after former manager Steve Ball departed the club last week, after 13 league matches without a win. 43 year old Brown joins from Essex rivals Maldon and Tiptree, who he guided to the FA Cup second round last season, being beaten at home by Newport County. Brown spent several seasons with Ipswich Town, playing mostly in the First Division (now the Championship), but featured four times in the Premier League. He was later loaned to Colchester in 1997, the first of three stints at the club. Loans at Queens Park Rangers, Wimbledon and Watford followed, before joining the Hornets permanently. After a loan at Gillingham, Brown was loaned back to Colchester, then sold to them, before joining Hull City, playing again in the top flight, before loans and then transfers to both Preston North End and Leicester City, ending his career at Bury Town.
Just hours after saying that he was “99% sure” that he would leave the club if the reported takeover of the club goes through, Paul Lambert has left his post as manager of Ipswich Town. The 51 year old took over the helm of the Tractor Boys back in October 2018, and oversaw their relegation to League 1 in 2019, their first season in the third tier since 1957, but stayed on as manager. Lambert’s playing career saw him win a Scottish Cup with St Mirren, and twice with Celtic, where he also won two Scottish League Cups, four Scottish Premier Leagues and a UEFA Cup runners up medal, as well as a Champions League with Borussia Dortmund. During his 28 months at the Suffolk club, Lambert was only able to win 37 of his 113 matches, drawing 28 and losing the remaining 48.

JOHN STARTED HIS PROFESSIONAL CAREER AT DUTCH SIDE FC TWENTE as a 17-year-old, going on to score 11 league goals during oneand-a-half seasons combined. He was signed by Fulham on 31st January 2004, by manager at the time Chris Coleman. He signed for a fee thought to be in the region of £600,000 where he was introduced at Loftus Road by John Collins. His debut for the club came as a substitute for Mark Pembridge against Chelsea in a 2–1 defeat at The Bridge on 20 March. John scored 11 league goals in 05-06, despite only starting 15 of the 37 games in which he played. With a further two goals in other competitions, he was Fulham’s top goal scorer that season. John started six of the first seven Premiership games of 06-07 season, but then lost his place and started only three more times in 2006. Coming on as a second-half substitute and having had two goals disallowed earlier in the match, he scored his twentieth league goal at Manchester City, in November 2006. John signed for Leicester City on 23 October 2007 on a three-month loan deal. He made his debut in a 1–0 defeat to Sheffield United a few hours later and scored his first league goal in a 2–0 win over Barnsley on the 27th of October.
John scored his last goal against Colchester six days later, in a 1–1 away draw. He returned to Fulham after making a total of eleven league appearances for Leicester. On 25 January 2008, John joined Watford on a loan deal until the end of the 07-08 season, with the option of a permanent move after that. He struggled with his fitness during his time at the club, making only three starts and two substitute appearances. In April 2008 he returned to Fulham after tearing a thigh muscle. On the 2008 transfer deadline day, John moved to NEC Nijmegen on a one-year loan deal, with the Dutch side having the option to buy at the end of the year. In Nijmegen John suffered with continual problems. Although he was important as a substitute in two UEFA Cup matches, he failed to make an impression in the Dutch league. In January 2009 he went on trial at Charlton but was not offered a contract. Back in Nijmegen he was suspended to the reserve squad by manager Mario Been. On 3 March John returned to Fulham after both NEC and John did not see any reason for continuing the loan. In March, John requested to train with Dutch side Heracles Almelo, alongside his brother Paddy, till the end of the 2008–09 season. The request was denied because John had no intention to play for Heracles in the next season. He chose to sign for Belgian side Roeselare signing a 2-year contract. On 3 December, John was suspended and demoted to the reserve squad for disciplinary reasons by manager Dennis Van Wijk. On the 14th December Roeselare terminated John’s contract. John joined MLS club Chicago Fire during their pre-season training camp on 29 January 2010 with a view to signing before the start of the 2010 MLS season. On 11 March 2010, Chicago Fire hired him on a free transfer. After a disappointing season in MLS, John was released by Chicago on the 24th November 2010.

After failing to revive his career in Azerbaijan, John handed in a transfer request. John went on trial with Nottingham Forest and flew to Portugal with them for a pre-season break which did not work out. He signed a one-year contract with Iranian side Mes Sarchmesheh on 20 December 2011. Then he went to Cyprus which of course did not work out either. On 22 September 2012, John joined The Bees in League Two. On 12 October 2012 John was joined at the club by fellow former Dutch international Edgar David’s. John made his debut against Plymouth but was substituted after just 15 minutes due to a thigh injury. He also played in the FA Cup against Oxford United, but he was to make only two appearances for the club, and after a string of injuries, had his contract terminated by mutual consent in January 2013. On 25 June 2013 John joined Eredivisie side Go Ahead Eagles on trial. After failing to win a contract with Go Ahead Eagles, John held talks with Polish side Piast Gliwice, and later claimed on Twitter that he had signed a two-year deal, but in fact was only training with the club until he had proven his fitness. He eventually made his debut on the 1st September against Slask Wroclaw as an 82nd-minute substitute. In March 2014 it was announced the John had signed for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL Pro, the third division of the US “soccer” pyramid. John debuted for the club in their second matchday of the season against the Richmond Kickers on 5th April 2014. After coming on as a 65th-minute substitute for Jason Johnson, John scored his first goal for the club on his debut, the in a 1–3 defeat. In the Riverhounds’ next match, John scored again during his first game at Highmark Stadium against, for a total of two goals in two matches. Following that match, John was suspended for three matches for “violent conduct”. After making thirteen appearances and scoring four goals for the Riverhounds, John and the club mutually terminated the player’s contract in July 2014, citing John’s desire to return his family to Europe. John joined Crawley Town on trial in July 2014, scoring in a friendly against Brighton but never featured fir the side again. He retired at the age of 29 in 2014. Nowadays John lives in Washington DC and works as a director/youth ambassador/actor.

Match Report 5 KINGS LYNN TOWN
ON A EXTREMELY BLEAK EVENING AT THE WALKS STADIUM, THE BEES WERE WELL BEATEN BY KINGS LYNN TOWN. THE BEES MADE A DISASTROUS START AT THE WALKS AS THE HOSTS TOOK THE LEAD INSIDE SEVEN MINUTES
HOW IT HAPPENED As a swift Linnets counter attacker was touched home by Michael Gash. It was the former Bee at the double eight minutes later, as he powered a header home from six yards out, after the hosts broke down the Bees left-hand side.
1 BARNET FC
Up the other end, the Bees were almost on level terms as Michael Petrasso burst into the box, but fizzed his effort wide of the near post. We came within inches just two minutes before the break as a fantastic Anthony Wordsworth free-kick was headed just wide of the goal. The Bees had a golden chance to draw level just after the restart but Harry Taylor could only poke his effort wide of the post. Meanwhile, up the other end, Kings Lynn came within inches of a third goal, as they struck an effort against the crossbar. It was soon 3-1 for the hosts just after the hour mark as Cameron King powered the ball under Loach and into the net. It was a very soft goal for the Bees to concede and put the home side in the ascendancy. The Bees never threatened after that point to get back into the game, The Bees crumbled in the final ten minutes and conceded a further two poor goals complied on the misery on a terrible night for Tim Flowers’ men.
It took until the 30-minute mark for Flowers’ men to respond as JJ Hooper latched onto a long ball forward before slotting the ball into the back of the net.
Barnet FC Team:
The hosts responded well to conceding and almost restored their two goal advantage, only for Scott Loach to make an outstanding fingertip stop to turn the ball behind.
