Lee Burch THE MANAGER

From the Manager I WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND A WARM WELCOME To all of the Crystal Palace players and staff for today’s game. I hope everyone can enjoy the game online via The FA Player app. As I said before it’s great to be back playing and now we are into the weekly games and training schedule it’s even better. The start to our season has been tough having played the current top two, but we are in no panic due to the fixtures we have played and early state of the season. We will however put a bit of pressure on ourselves today to really start our season. We know how good Crystal Palace can be after the result last season and they have been hard to beat this year already. We need to continue to work on our identity and way of playing and even though we haven’t gotten the results we have taken a lot of lessons from previous games. The learning that has taken place has been huge and I’m excited to see the players put that into practice again today. Finally I would like to wish Peter Beadle and Barnet FC all the best as they start off their season this weekend.

Lee

CAPTAIN

From the Captain HELLO BEES FANS, Hope you are all keeping well and are looking forward to coming back to the Hive when it is safe to do so. I know we’re all eager to have you back! We’ve had a tough few games in recent weeks with results not going our way but we’re looking forward to bouncing back and kicking things off with a win this weekend. It’s a pleasure to captain the bees this season and it’s great being back at home again for what should be an exciting London Derby this Sunday, which is also live on the FA Player. We welcome your support from afar and look forward to seeing you back at the Hive very soon. In the meantime, stay safe and keep cheering us on at home! See you all soon,

Mez

What’s the

Buzz?

Everton stunned Chelsea 2-1 in the quarter final of last season’s FA Cup at Goodison Park. After an early goal from Erin Cuthbert, Lucy Graham and Valerie Gauvin scored either side of half time to knock out the two time FA Cup winners.

Thanks to their victory, the Toffees will now play away at Birmingham City, who beat Brighton and Hove Albion 4-2 on penalties at Broadhall Stadium, Crawley, after a 2-2 draw in normal time. The other semi final is between Arsenal, who beat north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur 4-0, with all four goals being scored in the last 18 minutes, and Manchester City, who won 2-1 away to Leicester City, the last remaining side in the competition from outside the WSL. These ties were set to be played midweek, before the time of this being written.

The draw for this seasons’ FA Cup first qualifying round has also already been made, with ties set to be played today. Ties including some of our local clubs include: Luton Town vs Wroxham, Watford Development host Ashford, Wycombe Wanderers travel to Comets, Harlow Town are on the road at Bowers and Pitsea, and Regents Park Rangers are at home to New London Lionesses.

Manchester United’s new signing Christen Press has said that she is at the club to win trophies. She also insists that the club are indeed capable of winning trophies, and have the ability to end the domination of their rivals. With 138 caps, 58 goals and two time world cup winner joined the club at the beginning of the season, on the penultimate day of the transfer window.

Willie Kirk, the manager of Everton Women, has praised the manager of the men’s team, Carlo Ancelotti for his message to the team last week. The women’s side reached the semi final of the FA Cup, with the Italian sending a congratulatory message, which Kirk described as a “nice touch”, and makes the club have more of a “family feel”.

UK Coaching chief executive Mark Gannon has said that the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic could set the women’s game back by a decade. Gannon elaborated that the number of coaches, and by extension players, must not be allowed to decrease, with many clubs suffering financially. Lower divisions of the women’s game have resumed with limited numbers of spectators allowed, with fans not allowed to attend WSL or Championship games.

The draw for the group stages of the Continental Cup has been made, and there are several groups that stand out. Firstly is Group B, which contains London and WSL rivals Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as London City Lionesses. Another group to watch out for is Group C, which contains two sets of local rivals, Everton and Liverpool, and Manchester City and Manchester United. The group stage is different from last season, with groups containing few clubs, and clubs playing only one game against each opponent, either home or away. The six group winners and two runners up with the best record will qualify for the quarter finals.
