Simon B ASSEY

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to this afternoon’s National League fixture with Dagenham and Redbridge.

On James Callan: He’s probably the bravest kid I’ve ever met I think! It was fantastic for him to come in and I thought he equipped himself really well. He has no fear, if you watch him train, he stepped up to the plate and I was really pleased with him.

On Sutton United: It was always going to be our biggest test, it was a really difficult game. Unfortunately for us our energy levels decreased as the game went on, we need to try and get some players fresher if we can. It was a tough test, we stuck in there doggedly, we stuck at it and ultimately, we’ve lost to a team who might go on to win the league. We lost on a second phase from a set-piece and that was really disappointing for us to concede in that manner. I am pleased with our efforts, tactically we need to be better, that includes me, we have to be better on the ball and we have lots of improving to do.

On recovery: It doesn’t get any easier, we obviously play Saturday then Monday, so we’re not doing bundles of training at the moment because it’s all about recovery. We haven’t got lots of players to freshen the squad up, so we’ll go back count our bodies and go again against Dagenham.

On Dagenham: It’ll be another tough game, they are in really good form and have lots of dangerous players. They’ll be well drilled and will look to bring bodies forwards, so we need to be weary of that. We should come into this one with confidence because we are always improving and we know we can be really hard to beat, so we need to match that again against Dagenham. We have to be better on the ball and better in our deliveries into the box, that is something that let us down against Sutton, so we need to be better with that if we’re going to improve our decent run of form we’re having. Enjoy the match,

Simon

Tomi

ADELOYE Last weekend’s match-winner spoke to Barnet FC after the win over Altrincham.

On Joining the Bees: Yeah, you can only do one thing, particularly when the team is losing, so I am happy to come on and get the winner. I felt the boys dug deep and everyone is working really hard for each other, so we were delighted with the three points. We can only try to keep moving forward, we showed lots of character to win the game and the boys were buzzing.

On the teams characters: The boys have a real desire to work hard for each other. At two down I felt we still looked value to comeback and win the game, with that bit of luck just before half time we got ourselves back into the game. We always felt we could get something out of the game, in the end we were delighted to get the three points.

On the turnaround: Our mentality is a lot stronger, the boys have been working really hard and doing the extras on the training ground. Ultimately, it’s a huge shame we couldn’t have done this earlier because we’d be in a better position in the league. I think the mentality is the big standout factor that has changed in recent weeks.

On his time at Barnet: I am really happy here, all I want to do is score goals and work hard for the team. I am probably not in the best physical shape I can be, but I am going to keep working hard and I am just happy to be scoring and enjoying my football again.

Match Report 2 ALTRINCHAM FC

THE BEES PULLED OFF A DRAMATIC COMEBACK AS THEY CAME FROM TWO-NIL DOWN TO SECURE ALL THREE POINTS IN THE FINAL MINUTE OF THE MATCH.

HOW IT HAPPENED The hosts took the lead inside the first five minutes as an Altrincham free-kick fell as far Ryan Colclough who struck into the bottom corner from twenty yards. Simon Bassey’s side felt aggrieved just moments later as they were denied a penalty after there were appeals for handball in the Altrincham box. After a bright response from the Bees, they were undone by the Robins on 15 minutes as Alistair Smith headed home from six yards after Aymen Azaze made a good stop from a free-kick. The Bees could have halved the deficit on the 30-minute mark as Mason-Clark struck wide after Harry Taylor had forced an error from the Robins ‘keeper. In the boiling sunshine the Bees tried to respond as the half went on but never troubled the Altrincham goal as the final minutes of the half aproached. However, we were handed a lifeline right at the end of the half, as Courtney Baker-Richardson tapped home into an empty net as he pounced on an error from the Altrincham ‘keeper. At the start of the second half the Bees made a change as Michael Petrasso returned to action, replacing Millwall loanee Sam Skeffington. We were almost level seven minutes into the second half as Baker-Richardson planted a header inches wide of the post after Alex McQueen’s dangerous delivery from a free-kick.

3 BARNET FC

The Bees came close again on the 64th minute as MasonClark drilled an effort goalwards which took a deflection on it’s way through, forcing the Robins’ ‘keeper into a brilliant reflex stop. We should have been ahead with twenty minutes left on the clock as Petrasso’s delightful cross found McQueen unmarked, but the Bees number seven could only direct his effort over the crossbar. Altrincham carried a threat of their own and could have wrapped up the points with ten minutes left on the clock, as they broke quickly from a Bees corner, only for Azaze to make a flying stop to deny Nyal Bell. But the Bees rallied and found themselves with nine minutes left on the clock as Mason-Clark darted onto a loose ball before cooly slotting home. However, the drama wasn’t over and we found a dramatic winner in the very last minute of the match, as Mason-Clark squared it for Tomi Adeloye to bundle home, sparking wild celebrations on the pitch, the technical area and the press box! It was no more than Simon Bassey’s side deserved after a rallying second-half showing. There was late pressure from the Robins but the Bees dug deep and saw out the match to ensure their first win on the road since October.

Barnet FC Team: AZAZE, VAUGHAN, DALY (C), PRESTON, BEARD, TAYLOR, SKEFFINGTON (PETRASSO 46’), KEFALAS (ADELOYE 83’), MCQUEEN, MASON-CLARK, BAKER-RICHARDSON (RICHARDS-EVERTON 89’). Unused subs: Subs not used: McBurnie, Callan (GK).

Match Report 0 BORHAMWOOD FC

THE BEES CONTINUED TO STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WITH A RESOLUTE DEFENSIVE DISPLAY IN A GOALLESS DRAW WITH BOREHAM WOOD.

0 BARNET FC

The Wood started the second half the better and had the Bees pegged back in their own half, winning a succession of set pieces in the process. The Bees defended well and kept steady when the danger presented itself. The pattern continued as the time ticked past the hour mark, but again Azaze was mostly a spectator throughout, with his defence in front of him standing firm.

HOW IT HAPPENED

With 14 minutes left on the watch, Matt Rhead flashed a powerful header wide of goal after he lost his man during a corner kick for the home side.

The host’s started the better and almost took the lead on 11 minutes, as Corey Whitely danced into the area before forcing Aymen Azaze into a very good stop at his near post.

Rhead was in action again as he found himself free again and with a sight of goal but his powerful header was well of target. The Wood then had back to back corners, which the Bees had to once again defend well.

In an uneventful and scrappy opening twenty minutes, the Bees looked to bring themselves into the game but were more than matched by an organised Wood side. Our best opening came as Ephron Mason-Clark skipped down to the byline before his fizzing low cross just evaded the Barnet attackers. The Bees best opening came on the 30th minute as Tomi Adeloye skipped away from his man before firing a low strike which forces Nathan Ashmore into a top drawer stop. The chance came after a period of sustained pressure from Boreham Wood who were moving the ball well inside the Barnet half, albeit without creating too many clear cut chances. The Wood were next to go close, as the half drew to a close, as Kabongo Tshimanga fired over from eight yards under pressure from two Barnet defenders. At the break, it was goalless, with only the chance for Adeloye causing either ‘keeper any serious problems. The Wood were certainly physical and dominated possession, but found the Bees in a resilient mood in the opening 45 minutes.

The Bees did have a couple of set pieces of their own but never managed to call Ashmore into action as we entered the final five minutes. The hosts chucked everything at it but couldn’t find a way past a Bees side who defended incredibly throughout and secured back to back away clean sheets for the first time this season. The draw at Meadow Park means the Bees are now three unbeaten and head into Saturday’s trip with Altrincham with a bit of momentum behind them.

Barnet FC Team: AZAZE, VAUGHAN, DALY (C), PRESTON, BEARD, KEFALAS, TAYLOR (RICHARDS-EVERTON 89’), SKEFFINGTON, MCQUEEN, MASON-CLARK, ADELOYE (FAAL 76’).

TODAY’S OPPOSITION Despite only being in existence for 28 years. Dagenham & Redbridge Football Club have had their fair share of highs and lows their highest being promotion to League One following a 3-2 play off final victory over Rotherham United at Wembley Stadium. The Club came about following a series of mergers which saw Leytonstone, Ilford and Walthamstow Avenue form Redbridge Forest who in turn merged with Dagenham FC in 1992 to form the current Club. All four had proud histories as amateur clubs in the past but due to dwindling attendances, had fallen on hard times. The first season of Dagenham & Redbridge FC saw them finish third behind Wycombe Wanderers in the GM Vauxhall Conference and reach the 1st Round proper of the FA Cup, where they were defeated 5-4 in a thrilling game against Leyton Orient. Unfortunately after this things began to go downhill for the club especially off the pitch. Firstly manager John Still

attracted a lot of interest and when Peterborough made an approach which was too good to turn down, he moved on and this was followed by a Trustee of the Club illegally removing half a million pounds which he was later convicted of. Money was now tight and the 1995/6 season saw the Daggers finish bottom of the GM Vauxhall Conference and suffer relegation to the Isthmian League. To ensure the Club didn’t continue a downward trend Ted Hardy was appointed to stabilise it. At 67 years of age, Ted worked the same magic as he’d worked in the seventies with Enfield and Dagenham FC and against all odds took the team to Wembley in the FA Trophy final. Despite the heavy underdog tag placed upon them they battled hard and were unfortunate to lose 0-1 in extra time to Woking having played for an hour with only 10 men. League finishes of fourth, and third meant that Ted had achieved the target of stability and on Monday 1st March 1999 he announced his resignation, leaving the Club in a much healthier position than when he arrived. The Daggers installed Garry Hill into the hot seat and in his first season they returned to the Conference having romped to the Isthmian League title recording 20 victories and a draw from their 21 home league games and an outstanding 101 points. The success story continued into the 2000/01 season as the Club captured the National headlines on the Sports Pages as they first defeated Lincoln City in the FA Cup then came within four minutes of defeating Premiership Charlton

Athletic at the Valley in the FA Cup third round. In the replay held at Victoria Road, the Club battled their way into extra time but the Premiership side eventually won 1-0. By the end of their first season back in the Conference they achieved third place. The 2001/2 season saw the Club rise to top of the Conference on September 11th for the first time ever. After the previous season’s exploits in the FA Cup, there was a high level of expectation at the team didn’t disappoint. After defeating Football League Exeter City 3-0 in a second round replay, they took the lead in the third round tie at home to Premiership Ipswich Town in front of the Clubs record attendance of 5949. Unfortunately an upset wasn’t to be and Ipswich ran out 4-1 winners. The Conference championship turned into a two-horse race with Boston United and the Daggers heartbreakingly missing out on promotion to the Football League on goal difference. The disappointment was made even worse when the Lincolnshire side were found guilty of illegal payments to players but the points deduction was carried into the following season. The following season saw the Club miss out on promotion to the football league for the second season running again by the closest of margins. In the giant killing style they had become associated and drew 2-2 to Second Division Plymouth Argyle at Home Park in the third round of the FA Cup before defeating them 2-0 in the replay televised live by Sky TV. The fourth round paired them with First Division Norwich City at Carrow Road where a heroic performance from goalkeeper Tony Roberts looked to have earned the Daggers a famous 0-0 draw only for an injury time goal to seal it for the canaries. A Conference record breaking eleven match winning run took them from 15th place in January up into the promotion play-off places which they qualified for. They defeated Morecambe after a penalty shoot-out in the semi-final and met Doncaster Rovers in the first ever final at Stoke City’s Britannia Stadium. Two goals behind, the Daggers took the game into a golden goal extra time period with two second half strikes but in the second period Francis Tierney scored the goal which spelled more heartbreak for the Daggers. Garry Hill departed at the end of the following season and the Club turned to John Still for a second spell in charge. The Daggers squad had been boosted over the previous three years by good cup runs and the 2004/5 season was a transitional one with new players being required to replace some of the higher paid and experienced ones. Within a year John had completed the task of making the whole playing squad full time with the average age only 23. They ended that season in 10th place, improving on the previous season’s position by one. No one realised just how much the young players had developed over the past couple of seasons but that became evident as last season panned out. At the end of October the Club were ten points behind hot favourites Oxford United and a play-off place was seen as the best they could hope for, instead they kept up the pressure on the leaders and on the last day of 2006 they took top spot in the League, a position they wouldn’t relinquish. Even the sale of Craig Mackail Smith and Shane Blackett to Peterborough for a Club record transfer fee in January didn’t affect their form and they continued to pull clear of the chasing pack. On 7th April 2007, a 2-1 home win over Aldershot Town gave them the Championship and with it a place in the

Football League they had been so close to achieving in the past. Dagenham & Redbridge’s first Football League game ended in a 0-1 defeat at Stockport County. Life in the Football League was tough for John Still’s men but they made it to the Third Round in both the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and FA Cup before away defeats against Gillingham and Southend Untied respectively. February saw the Daggers start a five match unbeaten run, which saw them record their best wins home and away, beating Chester City 6-2 and Grimsby Town 4-1. Those victories gave the Daggers hope of finishing outside the relegation places but the next nine matches ended without any victories. In the penultimate fixture of the season, a fantastic second half display at Darlington saw them turn a 0-2 deficit into a 3-2 victory to retain their position in the Football League. The second season saw the Club start the season how they meant to go on with a 6-0 victory over Chester City. The Daggers went into the final game of the season needing to avoid defeat against Shrewsbury to qualify for the play-offs but lost the game 1-2 to miss out. They did finish as the top goal-scorers in League Two and pushed League One Champions Leicester City all the way losing by the odd goal in five at the Walkers Stadium in the FA Cup second round. The 2009/10 season saw seven players leave to move up the leagues including Scott Griffiths to Peterborough and Solomon Taiwo to Cardiff City. Despite this, John Still brought in players from a lower level to fill the void and saw the side top the table on occasions during the first half of the season. A mid-season slump saw them drop to thirteenth at one stage but a surge at the end saw the Club reach the end of season play off ’s by virtue of a seventh place finish. In the semi-final first leg they broke all previous play-off records with a six goal rout of Morecambe and despite losing the second leg 1-2, went through to the final at Wembley 7-2 on aggregate. 32,054 attended the final on 20th May and saw goals from Paul Benson, Danny Green give the Daggers the lead on two occasions only for the Millers to equalise on both occasions. Barbados international Jon Nurse struck the winner after 69 minutes as the Essex side continued their amazing climb through the football pyramid. The size of the task facing the squad in League One was evident in the opening game of the following season as a trip to Sheffield Wednesday saw over 23,000 fans watch on as the home side ran out 2-0 victors. The club’s first win in the third tier came against Leyton Orient in early September, this coming a few days after fans favourite Paul Benson left the Daggers for Charlton Athletic. Despite all the odds the club went in to the last day of the season with fate in their own hands but with over 1,000 Daggers making the trip to London Road Peterborough ran out easy winner to condemn the Daggers to relegation. Star performers Danny Green & Romain Vincelot left in the summer of 2011 for Charlton & Brighton respectively, whilst Tony Roberts finally hung up his gloves to take up a coaching position at Arsenal. After picking up a number of points in August and September injuries didn’t help the club and a disastrous run of just one win in sixteen League games followed. Results picked up slightly in the new-year but following a defeat in a

home ‘six pointer’ with Northampton Town in March the Daggers were again bottom and looking doomed. With ten games to go they went on a remarkable run losing just once and a final day 4-0 win over Bristol Rovers saw the Daggers finish in 19th place. The 2012/13 season saw the club fail to collect a win in their first eight games. Dwight Gayle, with seven goals and two assists in 18 games, gave the club the lift they needed going into the winter period including a 5-0 hammering of Rotherham United. Gayle’s performances earned him a move to Peterborough United and the club netted over half a million pounds in the process. Long-serving manager John Still decided he needed a new challenge in March and headed for Luton Town taking Coach Terry Harris with him. Wayne Burnett took over the position in an interim capacity and in his first game the club earned a 1-1 draw at Bradford City who had played in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley four days earlier. A win at Exeter with four games to go looked to have sealed the Daggers Football League place for another season but three defeats in their last three games saw the Daggers escape relegation on goal-difference on the last day of the season with Barnet and Aldershot Town finishing below them. Wayne Burnett signed a two-year contract as manager in May 2013 and in his first full season in charge led the team to a ninth place finish in League Two, playing a more attractive style of football in the process however a poor start to the 2015/16 led to his departure and the return to management of John Still. The Daggers’ 2016/17 season was an eventful season both on and off the pitch for Dagenham & Redbridge, with the Essex side almost returning to the Football League at the first time of asking only narrowly missing out in the promotion Semi-final to Forest Green Rovers. Daggers captain Scott Doe reached 300 appearances for the Club in March as well as the Daggers finishing fourth after being hit with a number of first team injuries. John Still’s men began the 2017/18 season in fine form, occupying a play-off place until the turn of the year. However, in February 2018 it was announced that Glyn Hopkin had resigned as a director of the football club and would no longer fund any shortfall in the running of the Company. This meant that the likes of Sam Ling and Morgan Ferrier were sold as the club struggled to cover losses. A fundraiser friendly against West Ham United which saw senior Hammers players like Mark Noble, Pablo Zabaleta and Michail Antonio grace the Chigwell Construction

Stadium as the Daggers fell to a 3-1 defeat. The match raised vital funds and enabled the Daggers to see out the rest of the 2017/18 season, finishing in a respectable 11th place. In May 2018, Daggers Legend John Still resigned as manager of the club as a direct result of the club’s financial situation. His replacement was confirmed as none other than former England manager Peter Taylor, with Terry Harris returning to the club as his assistant. The pair used their expert knowledge to put together a young, hungry squad on a small budget ahead of the 2018/19 National League season. More good news was to follow in September 2018, with the news that Trinity Sports Holdings would be taking over majority ownership of the club. The American consortium headed by Executive Chairman, Peter B. Freund, along with Director, Craig Unger and former Everton and Manchester United goalkeeper, Tim Howard secured the long-term future of the football club. The takeover allowed for the signings of two key players, Kenny Clark, Angelo Balanta, as well as bringing in Football League pair Manny Onariase and Conor Wilkinson to the club on loan. These new additions helped propel the Daggers up the table, collecting nine wins in 12 matches in a run that started at the end of October and stretched until the turn of the year. The Daggers secured the services of Wilkinson on a permanent deal in January, a huge coup for the club. The striker scored 12 goals in 23 appearances as he and his team-mates secured the East London side’s National League status with three games to spare after superb a 1-0 victory away at Ebbsfleet United, a brilliant feat considering the club’s predicament at the start of the campaign. The Daggers embarked on their 4th successive season in the National League, looking to build on the solid foundations that have been put in place by the club’s investors, Trinity Sports Holdings. Peter Taylor departed the club after a run of poor form at the start of 2020. Daryl McMahon joined as Manager in early January, with Terry Harris and Steve Gritt his jointAssistant Managers, and Dave Jupp arriving as Strength and Conditioning and First Team Coach. The Daggers secured safety before the season was cut short and Daryl will be hoping for a push at promotion during the 2020/21 campaign.

In the 2018/19 season, Angelo has been a mainstay in the Daggers attack linking up with striking partner Conor Wilkinson where the two have created a deadly strike force and bolstered the Club’s goal tally. The creative forward finished the season with six goals and three assists. The forwards good form continued last season with 8 goals in 21 appearances.

What’s the Buzz Josh Palmer

With the Football League season reaching its’ last couple of games, there are several sides who have already clinched promotion, or suffered their relegation. In the Premier League, so far only Sheffield United have been relegated, with the remaining two spots still under contention between several sides. In the Championship, Norwich City and our local rivals Watford have gained promotion, with the league title to be decided between those two sides, potentially this weekend, meanwhile no side is mathematically relegated yet, although Wycombe Wanderers are currently only surviving on goal difference, so any points dropped this weekend will result in their drop.

The finals of last years’ FA Trophy and FA Vase, originally scheduled for last May, then for September 2020, will now take place at Wembley this Monday, 3rd May 2021. Both of the original two dates were postponed due to the national lockdowns of the pandemic. It will feature Consett vs Hebburn Town for the Vase, and then Harrogate Town vs Concord Rangers for the Trophy, which will mark the first time that a side currently playing in the Football League will be playing in the final. Unfortunately, both ties will be forced to be played behind closed doors, and no fans will be allowed to attend.

In League 1, Hull City have returned to the Championship after one year in the third tier, whilst a victory today would secure promotion for Peterborough United. Bristol Rovers and Swindon Town will be in League 2 next season following their relegation from League 1, and could be joined by Northampton Town and Rochdale if results go against them this afternoon. Cheltenham Town have been promoted up to League 1, and could be joined by Cambridge United and Bolton Wanderers today depending on results. Next season, the Bees will face league fixtures against Grimsby Town upon their relegation, with Southend United also expected to face the drop, with their only chance of survival being to win their remaining two fixtures by a significant score, whilst hoping that either Colchester United or Scunthorpe United lose both their remaining ties by a large score.

Rated Excellent On TrustPilot

The finals of this years’ FA Trophy and FA Vase will take place on Saturday 22nd May 2021, also at Wembley Stadium. The Trophy will see Hereford take on Hornchurch, whilst the final of the Vase is yet to be confirmed. The Vase’s sixth round (quarter final) is scheduled to take place today and the semi finals next weekend, before the grand final two weeks later. Unlike the 2020 editions in two days time, the 2021 editions in three weeks are scheduled to have spectators attend, although in limited numbers. All four games are due to be shown live on BT Sport, with kick off times yet to be confirmed.

In Germany, 7 time German champions and 1997 UEFA Cup winners Schalke 04 have had a shock relegation after a dismal season. In Belgium, Excel Mouscron have been relegated from the First Division A, whilst Dijon have been relegated from Ligue 1. In Scotland, Rangers have been confirmed as Premiership champions, Heart of Midlothian have won the Championship, and promotion back to the top flight, whilst Alloa Athletic have been relegated to League 1, and Queen’s Park have won League 2, earning promotion to League 1. Elsewhere, Legia Warsaw have been crowned Polish champions, Young Boys are now Swiss champions and Hamrun Spartans are champions of Malta.

The 2021/22 season will see a restructure of the non league pyramid. A new division will be added to the Northern Premier League and step 4, two new divisions will be added at step 5, one to each of the Combined Counties League and the United Counties League, and the number of division at step 6 is set to be reduced to 17, down from 20. To accommodate for these changes, 110 clubs are set to be move upwards within the pyramid to fill the new divisions. 20 will go from step 5 to 4, 60 from 6 to 5, and the remaining 30 will be promoted from step 7 and below to fill the gaps left in step 6. Promotions will be based on unweighted points per game of all league fixtures of the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons combined. The clubs will then be ranked within their respective leagues based on this, then the top sides promoted.

A-Z OF FORMER

Brain Marwood Hull City Born 5 February 1960 in Seaham, County Durham, Marwood started his career at Hull City, joining in 1976 making his way up through the youth and reserve ranks. He made his debut aged 19 in a Third Division match against Mansfield Town on 12 January 1980. He spent five seasons with the Tigers, during which they were relegated to the Fourth Division and then promoted back to the third. After the 83-84 season, in which Hull City had a remarkably successful season Marwood started to attract interest from elsewhere.

Sheffield Wednesday Marwood was signed by The Owls for £115,000. He played 191 times for Hull and scored 53 goals. At Wednesday, he became known as one of the most consistent and productive wingers in the First Division, thanks to his pace and close ball control. The newly promoted Owls had a strong return to the top-flight, finishing eighth and fifth in Marwood’s first two seasons at the club, although Wednesday were unable to compete in the 1986-87 UEFA Cup due to the ban on English clubs in European competitions because of the Heysel Disaster in 1985.

Arsenal Despite Wednesday’s form tailing off after that, Marwood still shone in the side and he was signed by The Gunners for £800,000 in March 1988, as manager George Graham saw him as a reliable winger with many exciting attributes. He made his Arsenal debut against Oxford United on 30th March 1988. Marwood’s impact at Arsenal was nearly immediate; his crosses supplied the great Alan Smith with goals throughout the 88-89 season, in which Arsenal won the First Division title for the first time since 1971. Smith himself credits

Marwood as being the most prolific supplier of assists while he was at Arsenal. During this time, Marwood firmly established himself as the club’s first choice left winger ahead of Martin Hayes. Injury forced Marwood to miss the last five matches of the season, which included Arsenal’s title-winning match against Liverpool at Anfield. Nevertheless, he still took away a league winners medal with 31 appearances that season. However, with the ban on English clubs in Europe still in place, Marwood was unable to play in the European Cup. Injury restricted Marwood’s chances in the 89-90 season, and he only managed nineteen matches that season. After Arsenal signed Swedish international winger Anders Limpar in the summer of 1990, Marwood was no longer an automatic first choice which made him feel that he needed to look for a move elsewhere so he would have more regular first team football.

Sheffield United He was sold to United for £350,000 in September 1990. In three seasons at United, Marwood only managed 22 appearances, and was loaned to Middlesbrough before making a permanent move to Swindon Town midway through 92-93 season; Marwood played eleven times as Swindon won promotion to the Premiership but was released by the club that summer.

Barnet He finished his career at Barnet where he spent one season, playing 23 games as Barnet were relegated from Division Two down to the Conference Nowadays, Marwood is now managing director of, Global Football, City Football Group. The City Football Group is a holding company that administers clubs under the ownership of Abu Dhabi United Group, including Manchester City.

YEOVIL AWAY MEMORIES POSTCARD My earliest memory of Yeovil was seeing them at about half past midnight on the football league show and because of that, I knew that one day I wanted to go despite the fact it was a killer journey from Leeds and I didn’t really have any idea where it was! Fast forward to my late teens when I’ve perfected the art of talking my parents into taking me on these long trips for the football, Yeovil were back in League Two so it was finally my time to visit. Away days at Yeovil have usually seemed to align with my birthday weekend so I’ve been a fair number of times in the past few years to make up for the trips we didn’t get when I was younger! I think my friends may feel a bit of resentment towards me when I think back to the fact that for my 16th and 17th birthday, my celebrations were a weekend away down to Yeovil for the football. Considering neither of my two friends who came were massively into football themselves anyway, it really must’ve been a fun experience for them. Saying that though, I loved it! The weekend of my 17th, their mascot even gave me a bag of chocolate coins and if that doesn’t say celebrating your birthday in style I don’t know what does! I was actually a bit gutted the first time they changed our away fixture there to a midweek in February, luckily it was half term so I could still convince Dad take us but it was definitely a break from tradition! One day in particular at Yeovil will always stand out in my memory and that was our 1-0 win there in 2016. As it was Rossi Eames and Henry Newman’s first game in charge the pressure was on, but it’s fair to say we handled it well. Jamie Stephens put on an absolutely exceptional display in goal that afternoon, Nicholls scored an 84th minute winner and a certain Jack Taylor made his debut for Barnet too. I am not just saying this but from that performance alone I (and I think I speak for most Barnet fans when I say this) knew he was destined for big things one day. It was disappointing to see us lose in our recent game at Huish Park but to go into half time 3-0 down and come away with 3-1 shows that our second half performance was better. Despite the result, I was sat at home wishing I was there because it’s an away day I always enjoy (although I bet my Dad was relieved he didn’t have to do the drive). Hopefully it won’t be too long now until we can visit again.

Match Report 1 SUTTON

UNITED FC

THE BEES FELL TO A DEFEAT AT GANDER GREEN LANE BUT THE MAIN CONCERN WILL BE WITH GOALKEEPER AYMEN AZAZE WHO WAS STRETCHERED OFF IN FIRST HALF STOPPAGE TIME.

0 BARNET FC

whilst making a very brave stop. He was replaced by 16-year-old scholar James Callan who came on to make his Barnet FC debut. The U’s started the second half brightly and had a succession of corner kicks which were dealt with well by the Bees backline. But they had a golden opportunity as Beautyman broke clear on goal, only for young ‘keeper Callan to make a tremendous stop at the Sutton top scorers feet. The Bees were next to have an opening as Lee Vaughan played a brilliant pass through to Baker-Richardson, the Barrow loanee rounded the ‘keeper but the U’s defence did enough to stop him shooting into an empty net.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sam Beard then won the ball high up the pitch before firing an effort narrowly over the bar, as Bassey’s side looked to stamp some authority on proceedings.

The high flying hosts started the better of the two sides, albeit they didn’t create any clear openings in the early stages at Gander Green Lane.

The Bees then had a golden chance with 23 minutes left on the watch, as Vaughan’s quick free kick found Tomi Adeloye through on goal but he couldn’t get it under control.

The Bees first sight of goal came on 16 minutes as Ephron Mason-Clark combined with Courtney Baker-Richardson before our number 27 saw his strike from eight yards charged down by the U’s backline.

We were punished just a minute later, as a corner kick was headed against the upright before Bugiel smashed home the rebound leaving Callan with no chance.

The game continued to be an open affair, with the best chance falling to Sutton just before the half-hour mark as Donovan Wilson fired inches wide of the post from 18 yards after a swift U’s breakaway. Meanwhile, up the other end, the in-form Mason-Clark was Bassey’s most threatening man in an opening 35 minutes of very few chances. Matt Gray’s side continued to pressure the Bees and were the next to go close as Harry Beautyman’s cross just evaded the onrushing Omar Bugiel. The half-finished on a very concerning note as goalkeeper Aymen Azaze was stretchered off after colliding with boot of Bugiel

The Bees tried to respond with the introduction of Michael Petrasso but despite some set pieces and crosses into the box they couldn’t quite fashion an opening as the clock ticked past 85 minutes. Bassey’s side through all their effort at it on a difficult evening but couldn’t quite continue their unbeaten run.
