Lee Burch THE MANAGER

From the Manager I WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO ALL OF THE DURHAM PLAYERS AND STAFF FOR TODAY’S GAME. The season’s start continues to be tough with key moments going against us. Conceding to a free kick and a penalty in the first couple of minutes against a Crystal Palace and London City put us on the back foot and had us chasing the game before we had really started. This is something we have been working hard on at training to give us a chance to impose our game rather than chasing from the word go. Last week we were disappointed with our performance especially after some really good steps taken in the Bristol City Conti Cup game. Today’s game against Durham is a tough a challenge as we have faced, they are top of the league and deserve to be after a good start to the season. We know we will have to be at the top of our game today as we head into an international break and a really important month in November where we play teams, we picked up a lot of points against last season. Overall whilst we are not in a comfortable position we are not panicking as we knew by playing last season’s top four as such within the first six league games, we would be challenged by this ever-improving division. I have huge belief in the players and staff to start to move us up the Championship table. Thanks for your support,

Lee

CAPTAIN

From the Captain HELLO BEES FANS, Hope you are all keeping well and are looking forward to coming back to the Hive when it is safe to do so. I know we’re all eager to have you back! We’ve had a tough few games in recent weeks with results not going our way but we’re looking forward to bouncing back and kicking things off with a win this weekend. We know that we didn’t perform at our best against City Lionesses last weekend, so we want to make up for that with a big performance this afternoon. Durham are a good team but we know we have the ability to match them today. We welcome your support from afar and look forward to seeing you back at the Hive very soon. In the meantime, stay safe and keep cheering us on at home!

What’s the

Buzz?

The SWPL has announced that there will be no relegation from the division to the SWPL 2 this season, as the top tier of women’s football in Scotland gets expanded. Currently, the division currently contains eight clubs, but this season two will be promoted from the second tier, taking the total up to 10 for next season.

This Thursday sees the draw for the first qualifying round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, with Glasgow City, Linfield and Swansea City the only British sides in the draw. Among their potential opponents are Irish side Peamount United, Portuguese giants Benfica, Anderlecht and CSKA Moscow. Glasgow are the highest ranked side. These ties are due to be played on either the 3rd or 4th of November.

This weekend sees the second qualifying round of the FA Women’s Cup. In this round, there are several of our local sides in action. Enfield Town travel to Hashtag United, Leyton Orient go to Dulwich Hamlet, Actonians play Saltdean United, and Harlow Town host St Ives Town.

Aston Villa have had to cancel their WSL fixtures against Bristol City last weekend and Chelsea yesterday due to a member of their first team squad testing positive for Coronavirus. The positive test result came in during their preparations for the Bristol game last Sunday. The player in question has already begun her 10 days of self isolation, while those who she had came into close contact with are isolating for the recommended 14 days.

It has been announced that the England national team will play a friendly match against Norway in December. The match will take place at Bramall Lane, the home of Sheffield United. The national team have not played since the SheBelieves Cup in the USA back in March, but play Germany in another friendly next Tuesday (27th October) in Wiesbaden, a town in between Mainz and Frankfurt.

Wales’ key Euro 2022 qualifier against Norway on Tuesday 27th October has been moved from Rodney Parade, and will now take place at the Cardiff City Stadium, and will remain behind closed doors. This is due to Newport County’s men’s team playing a Sky Bet League 2 game at the stadium on the same day.

Canada Soccer have now confirmed that they have cancelled their training camp in England. The 8th ranked team in the FIFA World Rankings were due to travel here later this month, but have been forced to cancel due to advice from the countries’ federal public health officials, who have instructed the team not to travel. The side have not played a game since a 2-2 draw with Brazil in Calais in March, part of the Tournoi de France. Part of their training camp was a scheduled game against England, who are currently ranked 6th.
