Lee Burch THE MANAGER

From the Manager I WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO ALL OF CHARLTON’S PLAYERS AND STAFF FOR TODAY’S GAME. Last game against Durham we performed well and felt we should have taken something from the game. Unfortunately, we are not quite getting the key moments right and when you’re at the bottom of the league things seem to not fall for you again and again. We started well and got a deserved lead with a great Charlie Estcourt freekick but just like many times this year a slice of bad luck as we score an own goal only one minute later. Both sides had chances and Durham are a good side, we felt mighty unlucky not to get ourselves off the mark. The squad took heart from the performance though and have used it as motivation through the international break and into a huge November for us. Charlton visit us today having started well. They were in the same position as us this time last year when we played in quick succession in the cup and league. Both ending in draws although we took an extra point from a penalty shoot out win in the Conti Cup. I don’t expect anything other than a tough game but believe the group have been ready to turn a performance into a strong result for a while and we have been doing everything to make that happen today. Hope everyone stays safe as we enter the winter season. All the best,

Lee

CAPTAIN

From the Captain

HELLO BEES FANS, Hope you’re all still safe and well, and a warm welcome to Charlton to the Hive in what I’m sure will be an exciting game of football. We’ve enjoyed a quick break over the international period and used the time to regroup and refocus to prepare for a busy month of fixtures. There’s a real buzz about the group and I’m excited to see us get going today. I’m sure you’re in for an entertaining game and we’re looking to get our first home win of the season and finish strong with some good results before Christmas. Hopefully we’ll have you with us soon. See you soon and as always, stay safe.

What’s the

Buzz?

This weekend sees the third qualifying round of the FA Women’s Cup, with there being several of our local rivals in action. Harlow Town are at home to Royston Town, Actonians host Worthing, Enfield Town are away at Luton Town and Chesham United, who are on the road at Billericay Town. Other notable ties include an East Anglia derby between Norwich City and Ipswich Town, a Yorkshire derby between Barnsley and Leeds United and a North East derby between Newcastle United and Sunderland West End.

Last Sunday saw the FA cancel England’s friendly with Germany with less than 48 hours until kick off. The game, in Wiesbaden, was supposed to be the Lionesses’ first since the SheBelieves Cup back in March, but the FA were forced to cancel as a precautionary measure, after a member of the backroom staff tested positive for Coronavirus. The game was scheduled to take place behind closed doors anyway. Their next game is scheduled to be against Norway at Bramall Lane, Sheffield, on 1st December.

Leicester City goalkeeper Kirstie Levell has said that she chose to wear the number 28 shirt in memory of her older brother, who died five years ago. Dan died on 28th September 2015 of a heart attack at the families’ home, aged just 24, having only been diagnosed with bowel cancer months earlier. “The 28th is my mum’s birthday and I found that really mad” said Levell. “Dan had this terminal illness for such a long time and it was like he waited for her birthday to come round before saying, ‘right, that’s it now’”.

Despite testing negative for Coronavirus herself, Tottenham Hotspur head coach Karen Hills is now self isolating, after reportedly coming into contact with someone who had tested positive. Starting last weekend, she is now partway through her 14 day isolation period, and will miss her sides’ away game at Chelsea in the Continental Cup this Tuesday.

International football during the pandemic has been “an absolute minefield”, says England manager Phil Neville. “We have to get people from different bubbles, different environments and different countries into one and then make sure they stay safe” said Neville. “We need to manage the situation well”.

With sides still facing between one and three fixtures still left to play, several nations have already qualified for UEFA Euro 2021, which will be played in 2022, following its’ postponement due to the Coronavirus pandemic. England qualify automatically as hosts, and will be joined by the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany, who have already qualified, having already been confirmed as top of their groups. There are several other nations who are also already guaranteed at least a playoff spot, whilst others have already been confirmed as eliminated. Meanwhile, several other groups are still wide open, with any side technically still able to qualify for the main tournament.
