Lee Burch THE MANAGER
From the Manager I WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO ALL OF THE COVENTRY UNITED players and staff for today’s FA Women’s Championship Game and wish them a safe trip back home. Everyone was hoping that today would be the day that we could have fans back into the ground for the first time but unfortunately the game will have to be followed online. It has been a long time since a period of games and our last fixture being against top of the table Leicester City. I was pleased with the players on the day and at 1-0 and 2-0 we missed good chances to get back in the game and we were punished by a ruthless professional side who will now be favourites for the league title in a few people’s eyes. Our home form has been strong though with three 1-0 victories after a good performance in the Durham 2-1 loss. Today’s opponents Coventry United have continued to acclimatise to the Championship well since promotion and are having some great and high scoring games, last week’s match with Durham was a prime example. We met Coventry on the first game of the season and after a fast start, we did not take our chances and fell behind
to a good finish. Whilst chasing the game, a couple of good counters from them led to a 3-1 loss and a deflating opening day defeat. Squad wise Bonnie Horwood and Merrick Will have both had successful surgeries with Bonnie back in rehab. Courtnay Ward Chambers also is back in training and we hope to have her and Bonnie back after the new year. Also, a massive congratulations to club captain Megan Alexander and her boyfriend Harrison on the birth of Autumn Bayley. We are all excited to meet her when safe and ready in the New Year. It’s been hard not seeing you at all this year, but let’s hope 2021 is a brighter year. On behalf of everyone at London Bees, I want to thank you for your continued support. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

CAPTAIN
From the Captain HI BEES FANS Firstly, I hope your all well and safe after a very unusual year. As many of you are aware, I’m currently taking some time out to have my first baby and I’m delighted to announce she arrived on the 7th of December! It’s been a very different few weeks but I have enjoyed every second of them. Motherhood is even better then expected and I can’t even begin to explain the joy and love I feel towards her. My partner and family have been incredible in supporting me and I honestly can’t thank them enough. In a year of crisis, my daughter and everyone’s love and support has shown me that not everything is bad about 2020, and I hope you’ve all had something to look back on this year and be grateful for. The players have shown recently their determination and togetherness to get results and we believe the corner has been turned. The league is getting stronger each year and results sometimes can go either way due to luck or timing; however the girls are slowly getting what they deserve. I am sure we’re on for a big 2021! As for me, I’m still recovering but as soon as I’m able and capable of getting back in the gym/pitch I will be. I’ve always voiced my opinion about getting back out there, and now I feel even stronger about that because I have a little fan behind me to make proud. I look forward to seeing you in the new year, please stay safe in the meantime and I wish everyone well. Happy Christmas Bees fans, Love
Meg (Alex) & family xx

Lucy Bronze has become the first English player to have won the Best Women’s Player award at the Best FIFA Football Awards this week. The Manchester City defender rejoined the Citizens in September, having spent three years at French giants Paris Saint Germain, winning three Champions Leagues, three Division 1 Feminine titles, two Coupe de France Feminines, and a Trophee des Championnes. She previously spent three seasons at City, between 2015 and 2017, winning one WSL and Continental Cup apiece, as well as two FA Cups. She beat off the competition of the likes of Pernille Harder and Wendie Renard.
This week has also seen the completion of the second legs of the Champions League round of 32. Undoubtably the standout score was that by Swedish quarter final regulars Rosengard, who defeated Lanchkhuti of Georgia 17-0 on aggregate. Meanwhile, 7 times winners Olympique Lyonnais beat Juventus 6-2, Barcelona beat PSV 8-2, VfL Wolfsburg, who won the competition in 2013 and 2014, beat Spartak Subotica of Serbia 7-0, Manchester City beat Goteberg (Sweden) 5-1, Paris Saint Germain won 8-1 against Polish outfit Gornik Leczna, Glasgow City were beaten 3-1 by Slavia Prague, Chelsea demolished Benfica 8-0, Bayern Munich claimed a 6-1 victory over Ajax, and Atletico Madrid won 9-2 against Servette Chenois (of Switzerland). The draw for the last 16 is expected in February.
Sunday 3rd January sees the second round proper of the FA Cup take place. Some notable ties include a Yorkshire derby between Middlesbrough vs Hull City, a tie consisting of two former WSL clubs in Sunderland vs Sheffield FC, former WSL sides Watford and Yeovil Town are at home to MK Dons and away to Keynsham Town respectively, and a south coast derby between Southampton FC and Plymouth Argyle.
The group stage of the Continental Cup has now been completed. The clubs that have qualified for the quarter finals next year are group winners Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester City, West Ham United, Leicester City and Bristol City, as well as the two best place group runners up – Durham and Crystal Palace. Some notable clubs that have not qualified include Arsenal, who have won the competition on a record five occasions, most recently in 2018, WSL giants Manchester United and Liverpool, 2011 and 2012 runners up Birmingham City, our tenants here at the Hive Tottenham Hotspur, and of course ourselves
Carla Ward, the head coach of Birmingham City, has this week been charged by the FA for some comments made after her sides’ 3-0 loss against Arsenal at Boreham Wood earlier this month. The side travelled to Hertfordshire for the WSL tie on 6th December, and were holding the Gunners for most of the match, before succumbing to three late goals after the hour mark. Ward, who joined the side in August, having spend the previous two campaigns at the helm of Sheffield United, was reported to have made comments suggesting that the referee was on Arsenal’s side, and that City “played against more than 11, for sure”.
