WELCOME EVERYONE TO THIS AFTERNOONS MATCH WITH CHARLTON ATHLETIC AT THE HIVE. AN EXTENDED WARM WELCOME TO THE CHARLTON PLAYERS, STAFF AND FANS AS WE ONCE AGAIN FACE EACH OTHER! It was obviously disappointing to lose by such a heavy margin on Wednesday night. But they are a top team, a professional outfit and have plenty of quality players. I thought for the first half we matched them but just didn’t get that bit of luck. We will put that behind us and look to bounce back this afternoon. The last game with Charlton at the Hive produced an entertaining 0-0. It was great for the players to pick up the extra point with some great penalties and a top performance from Megan Lynch in goal. After playing with 10 players for such a long period and changes to the team etc it was a pleasing performance that will help us develop. We now enter a really busy period of games against some of the best opposition but we do not fear anyone and we will give it our best as always. This afternoon we take on a good Charlton side who have improved game by game so we need to put in a good performance. Durham are a good side and up until the penalty we were comfortable and had to deal with mainly set plays, the players never really recovered after the penalty and Durham kicked up another level to see the game out, again it’s another game we all learnt a lot as the this team continues to push forward together. Not our best performance, but not our worse. If you’re coming along to your first game this afternoon then I wish you a warm welcome and hope you enjoy the match. The women’s game is ever growing and it would be great to see our attendances build here at The Hive. Thanks as always for your support.

FIRSTLY I WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME EVERYONE FROM CHARLTON BACK TO THE HIVE AS WE FACE EACH OTHER IN LEAGUE ACTION THIS AFTERNOON. I’m sure it’ll be another really close match and we will have to give everything to take the points. I felt it was harsh on the girls to lose by that scoreline on Wednesday night. We had chances in the first half but just couldn’t quite take them. The teams in the WSL are ruthless and we just need to take the positives from the game and move on quickly to today’s match. We have to play some of the best teams in the division over this period, but I believe that we can beat anyone in this league so we will just give it our best. The support was really good on Wednesday night and I can’t emphasise enough how the fans can make a difference. Your words of encouragement and getting behind us are brilliant for the girls so keep it up. Thanks for your support!

ABOUT CHARLTON
WOMEN
Charlton Athletic WFC were formed in 2000, when Croydon, who had won the league title & lifted the FA Cup the previous season, came under the umbrella of the Addicks. The club immediately lifted its first trophy following a draw with Arsenal in August 2000 in the Charity Shield - with both clubs sharing the trophy. Manager Gill Wylie left the club midway though the 2000/01 campaign, and was replaced by Keith Boanas, who was then manager of the Ryman League Tooting & Mitcham United men’s team. Boanas immediately led the club to the semi-final of the Premier League Cup. Charlton lifted the London Cup in April 2003, and reached the FA Cup final the following month. More than 10,000 fans flocked to Selhurst Park to watch Charlton take on treble-chasing Fulham in the final, with two million-plus people also tuning in to see the game live on BBC, but unfortunately the Addicks lost 3-0. Charlton lifted their first major trophy the following season, 2003/04, when a goal from substitute Emma Coss, with her first touch, gave the Addicks a 1-0 win against Fulham in the League Cup at Barnet FC’s Underhill. But disappointment again followed in the FA Cup, with another 3-0 defeat to allconquering Arsenal at Loftus Road. It was third-time lucky, when Charlton finally claimed the biggest prize in the women’s game 12 months later thanks to a 1-0 victory over Everton in the Women’s FA Cup final at Upton Park; Eniola Aluko scoring the winner. Arsenal had again emerged victorious in the Premier League Cup final that season and also in the league, as the Addicks ended the campaign as runners-up for the second successive season. After three years in a row of playing in the FA Cup final, Charlton were beaten by Arsenal in extra-time of the semi-final in 2006/07, but had already won the Premier League Cup for a second time by that stage, beating the Gunners 2-1 in the final at Wycombe Wanderers’ Causeway Stadium.
Charlton began 2007/08 with a new man in charge, former Addicks winger Paul Mortimer, appointed as technical director to oversee the entire women’s set-up. And after a slow start, as the Addicks competed with arguably the youngest and least experienced squad in the top flight, several draws from Christmas onwards, plus a series of battling performances, gave the team no small amount at the end of the campaign, even though the club finished bottom of the table. 2008/09 saw the Addicks competing in the second tier - the Premier League Southern Division, finishing 4th. However the Reserve team was re-established and they met with success with a resounding win over Millwall in the Kent Cup final. Charlton continued their rebuilding process in 2009/10 with their young team beginning to mature & had a superb run in at the end of the season losing only once in the league in 2010. Their Reserves capped a great season by winning promotion to the FAWPL Reserves South Division 1. In 2010/11 Charlton moved to Thamesmead Town FC and their years of rebuilding were finally rewarded as they won the Southern Division with a team featuring many players who had come through their Centre of Excellence. The elation of regaining their National Division status however was soured as the club lost it’s Centre of Excellence status in May 2011 as the FA re-structured. The Addicks enjoyed a good first season back in the top flight finishing 5th & were supported along the way by PHSC plc who entered into a 5 year sponsorship deal with both the Women’s & all the junior teams who played in the Elite Female Development Programme. 2012/13 saw them finished a disappointing 7th after Paul Mortimer elected to step down. However they went on to win the London Cup. The strength of the clubs youth policy showed as they won the FAWPL Reserve South Division 1 title. However celebrations were cut short with the massively disappointing news that the clubs excellent Women’s Super League application had been unsuccessful. So for a third time the club had to pick itself up from a major set-back. The family ethos of the club has shone through as the vast majority of the 1st team squad elected to stay and with the fantastic support of sponsors PHSC aim to be the best club in Women’s Winter football. The club is now a separate company but is still affiliated to both Charlton Athletic football Club & the Charlton Athletic Community Trust. Restructuring of the FA Women’s Premier League in 2013/14 saw the club playing in the Southern Division & following a number of long term injuries to key players they finished 5th but retained the London Capital Cup.
2014/15 saw the 1st team complete a memorable cup treble winning the FA Women’s Premier League Cup for the first time since 2006, retaining the Capital Women’s Senior Cup & picking up the Ryman Cup for the first time. They finished 3rd in the FAWPL whilst the Reserves re-gained the Reserve South Division 1 title. 2015/16 in a close title race the 1st team finished as runners-up in FA Womens Premier League & also retained the Capital Women’s Senior Cup for the 3rd successive year. The Reserves won the Capital Intermediare Cup for the first time. In April 2016 the club was awarded a FA Regional Talent Club Licence for it’s youth section 2016-17 saw the 1st team finish a disappointing 4th place in the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division. They reached 3 cup finals facing Tottenham in all of them. They retained the Capital Women’s Senior Cup for the 4th successive season and were finalists in the FAWPL Cup and Ryman Cup. The Reserves finished as runners-up in the FAWPL Reserve Southern Division. 2017-18 was a memorable season for the 1st team who won the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division by 8 points, with a goal difference of plus 85. They clinched the title with a 4-0 victory away to Crystal Palace with Kit Graham netting all 4 including her 200th goal for the club. The 1st team then went on to defeat Northern Division Champions Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Sheffield Utd’s Bramhall Lane in the FAWPL Play-Off final, with goals from Graham and Griffin, to clinch promotion to the FA Women’s Championship (previously known as Womens Super League 2). A hat-trick of success was completed as 1st team won the Capital Senior Cup for 5th time in a row defeating Crystal Palace 2-1. The 1st team also reached the Isthmian Women’s Cup final whilst the Development Team (previously known as Reserves) finished 3rd in FAWPL Reserve Division South.

With all eight of the top flight fixtures due to be played last weekend having been postponed, the strike by female players in Spain has been called off, having made an agreement to reopen negotiations over pay. Over 200 players from the 16 top division clubs voted to strike last month, having spent over a year unsuccessful negotiations. The players are reportedly demanding that part time salaries should be worth a minimum of $12,000, which is three quarters of the minimum size for equivalent full time contracts.
In a weekend that saw 38,000 spectators attend the Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal WSL tie to set a new league record, as well as over 23,000 seeing the Liverpool vs Everton game, Heart of Midlothian also set their own record attendance figure. Over 1,000 spectators attended a game of the Edinburgh side for the first time, watching them clinch the WSPL2 title with a 3-0 win over Partick Thistle at Tynecastle. The club finished the season with 14 wins and 5 draws from their 21 games, winning the division by 6 points. They will switch places in SWPL1 with Stirling University, who were relegated having failed to win any of their 21 games, drawing just twice.
The last two weeks have seen three more nations qualify for the U20 Women’s World Cup next year. Earlier this month saw the conclusion of the AFC Asian U19 Women’s Championship, which doubles as qualifying for next summers’ tournament. The U19 competition saw Japan crowned champions, with North Korea and South Korea finishing second and third respectively, thus securing their places for next summer. Also already qualified are Nigeria, as hosts, New Zealand, as OFC U19 Champions, and Germany, Spain, France and The Netherlands, due to their respective performances in the UEFA U19 Championships.
Despite happening over 3 years ago, Jordan are still seeing the benefits of the 2016 FIFA U17 World Cup, which took place in the country. Despite finishing bottom of the group after losing 6-0 to Spain, 4-1 to Mexico and 5-0 to New Zealand, the country has continued its’ legacy, with the JFA inaugurating the Women’s Pro League. “It’s something I’ve always longed for” said Stephanie Al Naber, the famous Jordanian footballer, who is the captain of the women’s national team, and the first Jordanian women to play in Europe. “I’ve been dreaming of a full women’s football season in Jordan ever since I started playing in 2005”.
It has been announced that Sheffield United Women will be leaving their stadium, the Olympic Legacy Park, with immediate effect. The club will now play their home games at the Proact Stadium, the home of Chesterfield. “Earlier in the season Prince Abdullah highlighted his commitment to the Women’s team and this one of the plans to give Carla Ward and her team the best possible opportunity to succeed”, said Prince Musa’ad. “The Proact is a fantastic venue and the facilities that are available to us are magnificent, we are indebted to Chesterfield Football Club for their assistance.”

THE BEES FELL TO DEFEAT ON A DIFFICULT AFTERNOON AGAINST HIGH FLYERS DURHAM AT NEW FERNES PARK LAST SUNDAY (17TH NOV)
DURHAM
LONDON
W.F.C.
Sarah Robson’s opener was cancelled-out by Amelia Hazard, before a Beth Hepple penalty and a late goal from Iris Achterhof secured the three points for the Wildcats. Nicki Gears sent an early header over the bar before Ellie Christon’s rasping longrange drive was held by stopper Sarah Quantrill. The Bees had chances of their own with Meg Alexander putting a great cross in that was inches away from meeting the boot of the onrushing Hazard. The hosts made the breakthrough e on 19 minutes as Robson met a corner, before bundling the ball over the line to give the Wildcats the advantage. It was almost two moments later as a powerful free kick deflected off the wall, before being headed onto the foot of the post and thankfully bouncing clear of danger.. The equaliser was a truly special goal, as Sarah Quantrill punched clear a corner which found Amelia Hazard who went on a 50 yard run before slotting past the goalkeeper to see us level. The Bees then looked to be on the front foot and take the game to their hosts, they found themselves in good positions throughout an impressive first half display. However, in the second half the hosts showed why they are such formidable
BEES
opposition on their own turf as they were in charge for large parts of the second half. On 59 minutes there was controversy as the referee awarded the hosts a penalty for an alleged push, it was a decision that can only best be described as a soft decision, Ellie Wilson was also booked for her troubles. Durham continued to press forward with Gears close to doubling the lead when she slid wide at the far post, with Burch’s side still trying to muster an equaliser on the counter attack. There was to be a third in the 86th minute, though, when substitute Achterhof turned home Hepple’s low cross. The Bees remain fourth in the FA Women’s Championship ahead of a busy run of fixtures against the leagues top teams.
