I WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO NEIL REDFEARN As well as all of the Sheffield United players and staff for today’s game in the FA Women’s Championship. Our performance against Durham was excellent and certainly in the first half I though we were the better side. Good teams find a way of winning and Durham did. I was disappointed to not have won two penalties on the day and after conceding two penalties recently against Blackburn and London City which on review weren’t, it’s felt like luck has gone against us in the box again. The players took a lot from the performance and understand against top sides like today’s opponents Sheffield United you need to continue to hit those levels. The away game was close first half until Sheffield scored late on and then they controlled the game, it’s probably the game this season we look back and think we were not at the races and Sheffield controlled the game comfortably, we have developed massively since then. We have also shown a great determination at home with 4 clean
sheets in the last 5 games and if we can start to convert chances at the other end we will continue to pick up points as we have over the last third of the season. With no game last week we have used the time to add to the squad around the transfer window and we have added Emily Donovan from Lewes, Mia Cruickshank from West Ham and Helen Ward from Watford. Helen and Mia come across as loans joining Sophie Quirk and I thank Watford and West Ham for helping the deals get done. Emily is a great addition although has a slight injury picked up during training but I’m excited to work with her again and I believe all the players we have added will help us as we enter into the final third of the season. I hope everyone can stay safe as we continue in lockdown and football continues to provide you with some escape.

HELLO EVERYONE, AND A WARM WELCOME TO SHEFFIELD FROM EVERYONE HERE AT THE HIVE. It’s always nice to be back at home again and we’re excited to introduce a few new faces after a busy transfer window, I’m sure we will see some of them feature in the squad this afternoon. We’re hoping we can start getting more results from games recently, we’ve had a couple of really good performances in the last few weeks and have felt a bit unlucky we haven’t got more from the games but we’re hoping that starts this weekend at the Hive! As always, thank you for the support from home, we hope you are all continuing to stay safe. We look forward to having you back! Love

What’s the
Buzz?
With the end of the transfer window this week, several notable moves have been made by players. Amongst those was Tottenham Hotspurs’ Wales international Anna Filbey. The 21 year originally joined the club from rivals Arsenal in 2018, and has so far made 21 appearances for the side, who currently groundshare at the Hive with us. The midfielder joins Celtic in the Scottish Women’s Premier League One, the top tier of football in Scotland, with the side currently sitting in third place.
England international goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck has signed a new three year contract with Manchester City. The 21 year old, who joined City from Sheffield United in 2015, has since gone on to play 76 times for the club, winning a WSL title, three FA Cups, two Continental Cups, and a WSL Golden Glove. She also has five England caps to her name.
Chelsea manager Emma Hayes has publically rejected rumours that she will be joining AFC Wimbledon men’s team as manager. The Don’s had played at Chelsea’s Kingsmeadow stadium between 2002 and 2020, with the Blues moving in to groundshare before purchasing the ground last year, with the Wombles moving to their new Plough Lane stadium. The Sky Bet League 1 side parted company with Glyn Hodges last week, following a home defeat to arch rivals MK Dons. If Hayes were to take up the position, then she would become the first woman to manage a men’s professional side in England, however she has insisted that she is happy to stay at Chelsea, having taken charge in 2012.
Former Stirling Albion and Hamilton Academical player Stuart McLaren has been named interim manager of the Scotland national team. Having turned out for the likes of Wollonging Wolves, Brisbane Strikers, Queensland Roar and Perth Glory all in Australia as a player, then for Brisbane Strikers, Stirling Albion and Scotland men’s under 16 as a manager, McLaren will take charge of the full women’s first team for their two European Qualifiers later this month, against Cyprus in Larnaca on Friday 19th, and Portugal at Easter Road, Edinburgh, on Tuesday 23rd.
It has been announced that Watford’s Vicarage Road will host this seasons’ Continental League Cup final. The match will take place at the 22,200 capacity stadium in Hertfordshire on Sunday 14th March. The fixture will be contested between the winners of the two semi finals, which were played on Wednesday evening. Chelsea were the first to book their slot in the early kick off, slotting four past West Ham United in the first half, before eventually winning 6-0. The other finalist is Bristol City, who went against their league form to overcome Championship side Leicester City at Bath City’s Twerton Park thanks to a 1-0 win. The kick off time is yet to be confirmed.
