The Manager PETER
BEADLE
From the Manager GOOD EVENING EVERYONE AND WELCOME TO THE HIVE LONDON FOR THIS EVENING’S MATCH WITH STOCKPORT COUNTY. I WANT TO WELCOME ALL THE PLAYERS AND STAFF OF OUR VISITORS WHO HAVE MADE THE LONG JOURNEY DOWN THIS EVENING. I want to start by thanking each and everyone of you for your magnificent support of the team on Saturday. The atmosphere inside the stadium was really good and it was great to have you back with us for the first time this season. You were really supportive and all I ask is that you can deliver the same again for us this evening. As a whole, I was pleased with our improved performance but not satisfied that we didn’t get the three points. We got into plenty of good area’s but didn’t quite test the goalkeeper enough, albeit we did enough I felt to get a win out of the game. We moved the ball pretty well and we have to continue our improvement in a tough match against Stockport this evening. There’s no easy games in this league and we have to
be right at it from the get go. I’m sure you’re support will help us this evening. We’ve got to make sure that we at the very least match the effort levels from Saturday, we’ve been to inconsistent this year and I don’t want us to keep having to press the reset button. As this could possibly be our last home match before Christmas, I want to take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas. It’s been a tough couple of weeks, but I know with your support we can get through this and back to winning ways. Thanks for your support,
Peter

From the Captain
GOOD EVENING EVERYONE AND WELCOME TO THE HIVE FOR ANOTHER BIG GAME THIS EVENING. Stockport are a good side, but we’re right up for the match and I hope you can give us a helping hand this evening. Your support was really big on Saturday and played an instrumental part of the game. It made a real difference and you’re going to continue to play a big part in the upcoming home matches. I’m sure you’ll be right behind us again this evening, there’s no doubting that Stockport are one of the favourites for the league, but we have to start having more belief in ourselves and get a crucial win. There’s some big games to come, so it would a welcome boost to get ourselves a win tonight, I believe we are more than capable of that. Tuesday night games are always special and the atmosphere always seem that tiny little bit better, so I know you’ll be right behind us. Thanks for your support, Dunney

A-Z OF FORMER
shane gore GORE BEGAN HIS CAREER AT WIMBLEDON, MAKING HIS ONLY APPEARANCE FOR THE CLUB IN THE 01-02 SEASON as a substitute in a 6–2 defeat to Grimsby Town, where his first touch was to save a penalty on his League debut. In the 03-04 season Gore was sent on a one-month loan to non-league St Albans City Playing once; a one-month loan to Peterborough United where he was an unused substitute; then finally North London to conference side Barnet Fc on a season-long loan, where he made a more successful 28 league appearances. That season Barnet lost on Penalties unfortunately to Shrewsbury Town Fc in the playoff semi-finals, where he was given Man of the Match in both legs. Gore had finally seemed to find his level of football. After being released from Wimbledon at the end of the season, Gore signed for Barnet permanently on a one-year contract and was a member of their Conference-winning side in the 04-05 campaign but was then released and left Underhill for the last time. The following season Gore decided to go to local rivals Stevenage Borough but only managed a disappointing 3 appearances
signing until the end of the season on 15th January 2010. He made his debut for Luton in the FA Cup in a 3–3 draw with Rochdale on 7th November 2009 and kept a clean sheet in a 2–0 replay victory four days later. A single substitute league appearance followed on 30 January, though he failed to break into the first team again and was released from his contract on 7th May 2010. In the Summer of 2010, he signed for Chesham United of the Southern Premier League. In August 2015, Gore signed on dual registration with Conference South side Wealdstone. After only one appearance, Gore was recalled to Chesham but then shortly after, another loan spell occurred, this time at Hungerford. After returning and cementing his place, Gore played his part in an historic Fa Cup 1st round victory over League Two side Bristol Rovers before finally going on to lose to Bradford in the second round.
Gore then moved onto several clubs, playing for Conference South clubs Havant and Waterlooville and Maidenhead United , as well In July 2016 and after making more than 300 as Isthmian Premier side East Thurrock United. appearances for Chesham, Gore then signed for Wingate and Finchley of the Isthmian League Premier. I was lucky enough to see him After turning down a new contract at play and he always pulled off magnificent saves Maidenhead in the summer of 2009, Gore was offered a trial with Conference side Luton and commanded the back line well although was never eager to come off his line Town by manager Mick Harford , who was a coach at Wimbledon at the time Gore was After four years with Wingate, Gore signed for on the fringes of the first team. He signed Chestnut where he is still playing today. The 39 an initial one-month contract with Luton on year old is still going strong in his 20th season 7th August, acting as an understudy to Mark as a keeper in England. Tyler. In September 2009, his contract was extended on a month-by-month basis, before

BARNET OVER 50’S As we wait for our sessions to restart, we take a brief look back on our year… 2020 started for us with a visit to Bisham Abbey for the Jacari Children’s Charity tournament. We were then contacted by the London Sports Awards, the most prestigious grassroots awards ceremony in England and had been shortlisted in the category of ‘Impact in the Community’ in recognition for our amazing work within the community and fundraising both within Barnet and Harrow. 300 people gathered at the Guildhall in the company of the mayor, Invictus soldiers, global corporations and Barnet Walking Football team which made us feel incredibly humble. Back home and our February sessions were held in support of Football against Homophobia which we were proud to be recognised as the first walking football team to support the FA cause. We then held a Dementia UK coffee morning raising £200 for admiral nurses and as we looked to future events we heard on the news about a virus...
Established in 1883 as Heaton Norris Rovers, in 1890 the name was changed to Stockport County to reflect the town gaining County Borough status. After winning the Lancashire League in 1900, the County gained admittance to the Football League, drawing their first match 2-2 away to Leicester Fosse (now Leicester City). After finishing in the bottom three in their first four seasons, County failed to gain re-election in 1904 and so spent a season in the Lancashire Combination; they won the League at the first time of asking and made an immediate return to the professional ranks. County would be proud Football League members for more than a century. Joining the League meant the club soon outgrew their ground behind the Nursery Inn on Green Lane in Heaton Norris and, in 1902, they moved south of the River Mersey to Edgeley Park, then home of Stockport RLFC. County have played there ever since. Hatmaking was an established industry in north Cheshire & south-east Lancashire by the 16th century. By the late 19th century Stockport had become a national centre for the trade, and by 1900 County’s nickname of ‘The Hatters’ had become synonymous with the club.
TODAY’S OPPOSITION
In 1965 flamboyant chairman Vic Bernard, as part of his GO GO GO COUNTY revolution, reintroduced the Hatters’ famous royal blue strip; colours they still adopt today. The club stayed in the 4th Division doldrums until the turn of the 90s, when Uruguayan manager Danny Bergara turned the Hatters into regular top-of-the-table challengers. Promotion came in 1991, and was followed by four visits to Wembley in two years – twice in playoff finals, twice in the Football League Trophy. Unfortunately County lost on each occasion. Following Bergara’s departure in 1995, Dave Jones took charge and gave the club its most memorable season. In 1996/97, the Hatters won four games against Premiership opposition, including a 1-0 win at Middlesbrough in the League Cup semi-final – unfortunately, the tie was lost 2-1 on aggregate. Other runs in the FA Cup and League Trophy meant County played almost 70 games that season, and finished 2nd in the Second Division – the large amount of games almost certainly costing them the title. After Jones’ departure for Southampton, County consolidated in the First Division until relegation in 2002. What followed was a largely downward spiral back to the bottom division, twice finishing a season on just 26 points, and by Boxing Day 2005 County were well adrift at the bottom of the Football League. In came former player Jim Gannon as manager, who led the team to a remarkable run of form and, with an incredibly tense 0-0 draw on the final day against Carlisle, eventual safety. This was followed by a promotion push in 2006/07, when County memorably set a new professional record of 9 consecutive wins without conceding. But promotion was just out of touch, with a playoff place being denied by Bristol Rovers in the dying minutes of the season despite County winning 5-0 at Darlington. That success finally came the next season. After finishing fourth, Gannon’s side beat Wycombe in the semi-finals followed by a thrilling 3-2 win over neighbours Rochdale, finally ending the club’s hoodoo at Wembley. Unfortunately, the Hatters couldn’t build on that success and went in to administration before the final game of the season at Brighton. In 09/10 administration took its toll, and County finished on a new record low of 25 points and were relegated back to the bottom flight. In the summer of 2010 the club was taken out of administration by a group of local business people, ensuring the club’s survival. However, fortunes took a downturn on the pitch and the Hatters finished bottom of League Two, meaning that they would compete outside the Football League for the first time since 1905. During 2011, Liverpool-based businessman Tony Evans headed up a consortium of new investors in the club, who appointed former German international Dietmar Hamann as manager. However, following the consortium’s failure to take charge, Hamann’s squad struggled in the league and in November he was replaced by former manager Jim Gannon. The size of the task ahead of Gannon was even bigger than the one in
2006, and the team initially continued to struggle but found resurgent form in Spring. Safety was secured with a 1-1 draw at home to Braintree, allowing the Hatters to enjoy a peaceful summer for the first time in four years. However, that stability didn’t last long and in 2012-13 more financial issues off the pitch restricted the squad on it. With his team in the lower half of the table, Gannon was sacked in January 2013 and replaced by Bosnian coach Darije Kalezic. Unfortunately results got worse, and with County staring at relegation he was replaced by former Gateshead manager Ian Bogie, but he too could not stop the slide. A 4-0 defeat to Kidderminster Harriers saw Stockport County relegated to the Conference North, meaning the Hatters would be playing regional football for the first time since 1905. Bogie left the club after a run of poor results and was replaced by County stalwart Alan Lord. Lord achieved the feat of stabilising a club in free-fall, securing the team’s place in the division – which had at times looked uncertain – and guiding the club to a safe mid-table finish in the 2014/15 season. Lord’s achievement turning the club around and pointing it in the right direction may well prove pivotal in County’s history. Towards the end of the 2014/15 season Lord moved to become Director of Football, and paved the way for the next man to come in and continue County’s progress. In May 2015 County secured the services of Neil Young as manager. Young and his management team, headed by Gary Jones, made their name with successes at Colwyn Bay and Chester City. In January 2016, Jim Gannon signed an 18-month contract to return to Edgeley Park following the resignation of Neil Young. Mike Flynn, Dave Conlon and Jordan Felgate were named as his coaching staff. Jim led the Hatters to promotion during his first spell in charge of the club in 2008, winning the League Two PlayOff Final against Rochdale at Wembley. As a player, James became a club legend during ten years at Edgeley Park, earning two promotions and reaching the semi-finals of the League Cup. Despite defeat in the National League North play-offs in 2018, 2018/19 saw Gannon lead County to their first League title in 52 years, as a 3-0 final day victory at Nuneaton confirmed the Hatters as National League North champions – becoming the first manager in the our history to win two promotions with the Club. January 2020 saw the Hatters taken over by local businessman Mark Stott, who has since significantly invested into the infrastructure of the Club, including a new training facility at Carrington, and the renovation and improvement of facilities at Edgeley Park. 2019/20 saw County just miss out on the National League play-off places on points-pergame, following the early curtailment of the season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
JIM
GANNON
The Manager
NOW IN HIS THIRD SPELL AS MANAGER OF THE CLUB, JIM GANNON IS A TRUE STOCKPORT COUNTY LEGEND. First joining the Club as a player in 1990, the Irishman made 480 appearances over a ten year spell at the Club Scoring 64 goals and earning two promotions, as well as reaching the League Cup semi-finals in 1997. As manager, he is now closing in on his 500th game across three spells, where he has won two promotions – including leading the Club to its first League title in 52 years when they finished top of the National League North in 2019. Gannon is a former footballer who is now manager of National League side Stockport County. He started and finished his career as a player in Ireland, but made most of his professional appearances in the English Football League at Stockport County, where supporters elected him as a member of the Hall of Fame. Gannon began his playing career at Dundalk, but moved to English club Sheffield United in 1989. The next year he transferred to Stockport County, following a short loan spell with Halifax Town. He spent the next ten years at Stockport, becoming one of the club’s most loyal servants, and helped the club to second-place finishes in both the Second Division and Fourth Division, as well as two League Trophy finals. After leaving the club in 2000, he spent a season with Crewe Alexandra, before returning to Ireland with Shelbourne, winning two League of Ireland Premier Division titles in his three years there.
Starting a career in management, he took charge of his first club Dundalk in 2004. After a season in Ireland he returned to Stockport County as manager. There he led the club to promotion from League Two via the play-offs in 2008. Leading County to safety in League One despite a ten-point deduction for entering administration, he lost his job as part of a costcutting measure. Heading to Scottish Premier League side Motherwell, he managed the club in the Europa League, but left after just 25 games in charge. He took charge of Championship side Peterborough United in 2010, but stayed at the struggling club for only two months, turning down a four-year contract. In January 2011 he was appointed manager of Port Vale, but lasted just ten weeks in the job. He returned to Stockport in November 2011, as the club’s director of football and manager, before being sacked in January 2013. He took charge at Northwich Victoria in December 2013. He spent just over two years with Northwich before returning to manage Stockport County for the third time in January 2016. He led the club to promotion as National League North champions at the end of the 2018–19 season.

What’s the Buzz Josh Palmer
Eastleigh’s fixture at home to Wrexham tonight was postponed yesterday lunchtime, less than 32 hours before kick off, due to members of the squad receiving positive Coronavirus tests.
With the entire squad and playing staff now needing to self isolate for the next ten days, the Spitfires’ away trip to FC Halifax Town and home tie against Hartlepool United on Saturday and Tuesday respectively will also be postponed. The club have also announced that the players in question were not present at the sides’ 1-0 home defeat to Maidenhead United on Saturday. The Hampshire side, who are manager by former Bee Been Strevens and coached by Ross Flitney, next scheduled fixture is the visit of Weymouth to the Silverlake Stadium on Boxing Day.
Weymouth have made the decision to cut the capacity of their Bob Lucas stadium, after multiple incidents involving fans during Saturdays’ 5-1 loss to FC Halifax Town. The Dorset side are playing in non leagues top tier for the first time since the 2008/09 season this season, but Saturday’s fixture was the first time fans have been allowed in. The weekends’ fixture saw approximately 800 fans enter the 6,600 capacity ground (600 seats), but a quite a few failed to socially distance, whilst others brought alcohol into the ground (which is forbidden under Covid 19 regulations). One spectator even ran onto the pitch. The side were in the Southern League Premier South in 2019, but won promotion twice in successive seasons. The Terras were also regular opponents of the Bees in the 1970s and 1980s, in the Southern League and Conference.

Former Bee Byron Harrison has found himself a new club, having been released by former club Barrow over the summer. Harrison previously spent some time at various non league sides, including Havant and Waterlooville, Worthing, Boreham Wood, Harrow Borough, Ashford Town and Carshalton Athletic, before stepping up to League 2 with Stevenage, where he also played in League 1 when they were promoted. He then returned to League 2 with AFC Wimbledon and Cheltenham Town, before going back up to League 1 with Chesterfield, then League 2 again with Stevenage on loan. He then joined Barrow, scoring 32 goals in 67 appearances, before being loaned to Sutton United, then moving to the Hive, scoring twice in his 25 outings. He then returned to Barrow in the summer of 2019, but was again released in the summer, when the Bluebirds were promoted to League 2. The 33 year old now joins National League rivals Altrincham.
Former Bee and current Blyth Spartans manager Michael Nelson has said that he hopes new signing JJ O’Donnell will be able to have a big impact for the Spartans, both on and off of the pitch. Nelson joined the Northumberland side back in March, having originally started last season at Gateshead. This week has seen Gash sign O’Donnell from Gateshead on a season long loan, being his teammate at the Tynesiders. The 29 year old made well over 100 appearances for the Heed. Nelson played for Bury, Hartlepool United, Norwich City and Scunthorpe United, including in the Championship with the latter two. He also appeared in the Scottish Premiership with Kilmarnock and Hibernian, as well as Bradford City and Cambridge United, before joining Barnet in 2015, scoring twice in 104 appearances over the next three seasons. He later joined Chesterfield, before moving onto Gateshead.
Yesterday was supposed to see the third round proper draw of the FA Trophy take place, but this has been pushed back due to the previous two rounds being postponed due to the recent lockdown. However, the FA Vase third round proper has been made, with more of our local sides in action. Round two saw Hadley beat Raynes Park Vale 4-1 at Brickfield Lane, setting up yet another home cup tie in the next round, this time against another local side in Colney Heath, who won 4-2 away at Ilford in the previous round. Also in the round is Clapton, who host Cobham, and North Greenford United, who will travel to either Lancing or Worthing United. Another notable tie in this round includes 2015 FA Trophy winners North Ferriby United, who will host the winner of this Saturdays’ tie between Barnton and Seaham Red Star. These fixtures are scheduled to be played on Saturday 19th December.

Match Report 0 BARNET FC
THE BEES HAD THEIR CHANCES AT THE HIVE LONDON, BUT HAD TO SETTLE FOR A POINT ON OUR FIRST GAME WITH THE BEE ARMY IN ATTENDANCE.
0 WEALDSTONE FC
almighty scramble in the six-yard box, the Stones ‘keeper went down with a suspected head injury which the referee initially waved away. But as the ball hit the back of the net, the ref pointed for a free-kick. The teams went into the break level and at the start of the second half, Muhammadu Faal had the best chance of the opening of the early exchanges as he saw an effort deflected behind.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bees best chance of the match fell the way of Effiong as his diving header from six yards out, went over the crossbar after he had peeled away to find the space to meet McQueen’s inch-perfect cross.
The Bees started brightly once again but the first clear opening of the match fell the way of the visitors, as Dean Parrett forced Scott Loach into a brilliant stop, as he tipped away the Stones mans effort from six yards out.
Up the other end, Loach had to make a vital stop to tip Jordan Slew’s effort around the post, following his 20-yard strike destined for the bottom corner.
Up the other end, Inih Effiong almost opened the scoring as he headed an effort just over the crossbar from Anthony Wordsworth’s corner. Just before that Ben Nugent headed another corner to the back post but the Stones just managed to scramble behind. It was Effiong who caused problems again moments later after he saw an effort blocked behind for a corner after being found by Alex McQueen. The resulting corner found Nugent who headed over from eight yards out after managing to lose his man. Loach was called into action again, as a break down the right fell to the back post for a Stones attacker, but Loach was off his line quickly to narrow the angle and make a stop at his near post. There was controversy on the stroke of half-time as McQueen looked to have slammed home into an empty net after an
Both sides showed plenty of endeavour in the final stages but neither could find that all-important opener, leaving both sides having to settle for a share of the spoils. It was a shame for the Bees fans, who got right behind their side all afternoon. It was just great to have fans back in the stadium again, Beadle’s side showed promise but the just need to break their duck in front of goal.
