Louise Ramsay Exhibition We are delighted to be holding this exhibition of Louise Ramsay’s work at Studio 18. This is Louise’s first solo exhibition and is the culmination of 2 years hard work. Louise Ramsey is a landscape painter who paints in acrylic on both canvas and board. This exhibition comprises of 26 paintings and 3 charcoal drawings on paper. Her style is both bold and colourful and she manages to convey the feeling of space and mood into her work. All the views are of Jersey but she often takes recognisable landmarks and paints them from an unusual angle or places the landmark in context with its surroundings so you get the feeling of both size and scale. One of the features of her work is that she uses a barewood moulding frame and hand paints each one to compliment her pictures. In the following pages are images of most the paintings in the exhibition. We would be delighted if you can make the preview on Monday night. If not we hope to see you during the course of the exhibition. Please be aware that pictures cannot be purchased or viewed before the preview. The Gallery will be closed on the Monday until the commencement of the exhibition at 5.30pm.

Louise Ramsay Having graduated with a degree in Visual studies and History of art (Oxford Brookes University) in 1992, Louise Ramsay went on to the Courtauld Institute of Art to train as an easel paintings' conservator, and spent 15 years conserving and restoring pictures from both private and well-known public collections. The experience of working in this field was invaluable. Hours spent studying paintings under a microscope gives one an intimate understanding of a variety of artists' techniques and much of this has informed Louise's own approach to painting. In 2006, whilst still living in the UK, Louise started to re-kindle her love of painting and drawing and successfully exhibited with a group of painters in her home county of Cheshire. In 2008 Louise moved to Jersey with her husband and family, and has been increasingly inspired to spend more and more time drawing and painting her new environment. This exhibition, ‘Out of the Blue’ explores and interprets well known places across Jersey in charcoal drawings, small studies and larger, more resolved paintings. Louise has been working primarily in acrylic paint, on hand-primed boards or canvases and her interest lies in conveying a sense of space through the vivid relationship between light and colour. In this collection of work, Louise captures the island's vast skies, some of its signature coastal landscapes, and the unique and attractive quality of the light refracted by the surrounding sea.
