STUDIO 18 CHRISTMAS EXHIBITION 26th November ~ 24th December
David Barnett
Christmas is always a very busy time for us here at Studio 18 but one we love ! Our Christmas Exhibition is something we always look forward to where we can showcase our artists . Some who have been with us for many years, some not so long and some new to us. In this catalogue, we feature the work of our new artists. I am always looking for new work and artists that will add a new dimension and bring something fresh to the Gallery, and I believe the artists featured in this catalogue do just that. Each has their own style, subject matter and way of working and they are all very talented. We hope you enjoy seeing these works and look forward to seeing you during the exhibition. Apart from these works shown in this catalogue, we will have over a hundred works of art hung in the exhibition and over 2000 pieces of art in stock. So something for everyone.
SUSAN CRISMAS WOOD Susan Crismas Wood was born in Hampshire, England, in 1956 and always had a passion for the arts. Aged twenty she moved to Bermuda for six months and stayed for fifteen years! Twenty years ago she moved to Jersey in the Channel Islands. The beauty of the sea and being fortunate enough to live in exceptionally beautiful places has definitely influenced her work.
Although Susan has painted all her life, she became a professional artist via a convoluted route, which included a whole other career as a lawyer.
It was not until 2006 that she was able to dedicate herself to art fully and attend College. Since then she has worked with artists and sculptors in England, Jersey, Bermuda and Italy and she is grateful and thankful to them all for generously sharing their knowledge.
Susan lives in Jersey and has exhibited in Jersey, France and Italy.

Paul Ferraby studied fine art at Farnham art school West Surrey college now University of Art and Design, in the late sixties through to seventy two, mainly in oils, and drawing life class. His strongest interest is landscape and coastal scenes. The artists Paul likes and most admires are Turner along with the French impressionists Monet, Cezanne and Degas. Over the years Paul has had small exhibitions in his home town and shown work in Galleries in Leicester and Norfolk. With more time to produce work on a regular basis and able to travel to collect material to paint, he has started to produce a body of work to first satisfy himself and then put out into galleries to share with others. Paul uses artist professional quality oil paint on prepared boards which give him the faster drying he likes to layer the colours one over another.

OLLIE LE BROCQ This is what Ollie says about his paintings and his inspiration to put paint on canvas: “The possibilities of paint seem endless to me, and the very idea of that level freedom is both enticing, and exciting. Having worked in the realm of digital art for twenty years, painting has been liberating, allowing me to express myself in a way I had barely imagined possible just a few years ago. Yet, I have only just started this journey. Every time I paint, I push myself further to explore new ways to create that 'ideal' piece that conveys everything I want to say about my subject. I explore light, colour, and form, through Landscape, Still Life and Architectural pieces, often trying to convey a sense of movement, character, and life. Whilst my work in the domain of Still Life and Architecture leans more towards realism, I am very keen to maintain a degree of abstraction and imperfection, rather than present a sanitised, flat representation. My Landscape work is inspired by the big skies, and relatively flat lands of Suffolk and the Heritage Coast. I tend towards capturing moods and ambience through my landscapes, rather than exact representation. I work from my studio on the Heritage coast, in the county of Suffolk, UK.

AGATA RYSZKA Agata Ryska has not been formally trained as an artist but has had an interest and talent for painting from an early age. Her inspiration has come from her Father who was a blacksmith and she was fascinated by the objects he created, especially beautiful armour. Agata is inspired by people and particularly faces. She believes that faces tell a lot about a person and as you observe, she believes that you can see into their inner soul. The series of paintings Agata has done for this exhibition is titled “Heroes. It is a series of paintings of famous people who Agata believes have made an impact in our world. Alas, they are no longer with us, but Agata believes they will never be forgotten and live on in our hearts.
