Welcome to this catalogue of works in our Summer Exhibition. This is just a small sample of what is available. I have tried to include works by artists new to us plus new work from some of the Gallery favourites. Studio 18 predominately specialises in landscape paintings and we are very fortunate living and working in this beautiful Island of Jersey. Only 9 x 5 miles it boasts the most stunning varied scenery you could wish from sandy beaches to more rugged coastlines to quaint and picturesque harbours. It is a painters paradise, so naturally, a majority of landscapes are of Jersey. Jersey is the most wonderful place when the sun comes out and we are in the middle of a mini heat wave as I write with clear blue skies and wall to wall sunshine. Martin Bullivant, one of our established artists, manages to encapsulate the qualities of Jersey and the three new paintings for this exhibition capture the essence of Summer and those idyllic days on the beach. Another established artist is Patrick Malacarnet. Patrick likes to paint landscape and is fascinated by the sea, wave formations and the patterns it leaves on the beach as it recedes. His pictures have a softness about them with his use of muted colours but also a serene quality that attracts the v iewer. We have three new artists showcasing their work in this exhibition. Bevis Fenner is a painter who is interested in tourism and the continental feel of the Island. His work is focused more on details of places rather than a panoramic view of the areas he visits. We have two of his paintings in the exhibition with more exciting work on the way. Dennis Nash is more of a traditional landscape artist painted in a free flowing style that shows an artist with confidence in his work and ability. We have three new works by him and more to come as we believe his work will be popular for the many who like this style of painting. Our last artist featured in this catalogue is John Dronsfield. You cannot describe John as a landscape painter but his work fits in very well with the Gallery and fills a niche in the market. John’s work in this exhibition is in watercolour although he paints in other mediums also. His work is colourful, humorous and busy with lots going on in his work. John’s art has that ‘feel good’ factor and I am sure will be popular with those that see his work. We hope you enjoy looking through these pages and if you live in Jersey or coming to Jersey shortly, please do come and look at the exhibition. Our Gallery is always changing with new work being added on a weekly basis. You can also keep in contact with us through our website which is updated regularly.
