CHRISTMAS EXHIBITION

23rd November ~ 24th December

Our Christmas Exhibition is one that we always eagerly anticipate. There is always an air of excitement as Christmas approaches and with all the decorations up, it is a busy time for us but nonetheless one that is enjoyable. We are always looking for new artists for our mixed shows who can offer something different to what we already offer and provide work that will enhance the Gallery. We have two new artists to the Gallery who we believe will do just that, one a painter and one a photographer. The paintings of Debbie Buterbaugh have that feel good factor that make you smile and remind you of long, hot, sunny days of summer. Her work is bold and colourful and will brighten up any living space or office. The other artist, Robert Syvret is a photographer. We don’t normally display photographic images in the Gallery but we were taken by his work and are happy to include a selection in the show. Robert is fascinated by reflections and unusual subject matter. Some of the images you would imagine have been created on computer but they haven’t, they all come straight from the camera. He has an eye for detail and composition and sometimes he has to wait for hours before he gets the right shot. We are sure you will be impressed with his work like we are. We also have Louise Ramsay showing three new works in this exhibition. Louise is not new to us but we have been encouraging her recently to paint larger pictures. In the past, she has sold quite small studies. This time, she has produced three larger works which we believe are truly beautiful and well worth a visit just to see these. We will also have three new pieces from Martin Bullivant as well as work from other artists. Martin is a favourite amongst many of you and new work is always eagerly anticipated. On Saturday 14th and 21st December we will be serving mulled wine and mince pies throughout the day to keep you all in the Christmas spirit and to help keep out the cold! We look forward to seeing you.

We Wish You All A Very Happy Christmas & Peaceful New Year

Debbie Buterbaugh Originally a scuba diving instructor, Debbie is inspired by the ocean and by her travels around the world. She paints mainly in acrylic and oils, using plenty of texture, bright colours and gold outline. Her work can be seen in various cafes and restaurants around Jersey, where she lives and works. She merges the colours of the Caribbean with the spectacular scenery in Jersey to create vivid art. Her work has been described as “Happiness in a Frame”. Debbie also sculpts, and one of her designs, entitled “The Wave”, was recently chosen to be built and displayed outside the St Brelade’s Bay Hotel in Jersey. She also works in wood and mosaic, indulging her passions for primitive and rustic styles of art.

Louise Ramsay Louise graduated from Oxford Brookes University (1989-1992) with a BA Hons in History of Art and Visual Studies and went on to pursue a career in easel painting conservation, training at The Courtauld Institute of Art, London (1993-1996). Having worked alongside many accomplished conservators in public and private collections (London 1996-1999), Louise went on to establish her own small business (Cheshire, 2000-2008) conserving and restoring old master paintings. In 2006 Louise started to re-kindle her love of painting and drawing and exhibited with a group of painters in her home county of Cheshire. In 2008 Louise moved to Jersey with her husband and children and has increasingly spent more and more time drawing and painting - interpreting the local landscape and seascapes in small studies and increasingly larger pictures. Louise works primarily in acrylic paint, charcoal and ink.

Robert Syvret Robert Syvret was born in Jersey and has been interested in photography since his early teens. He began with a small darkroom at home and on leaving school worked in a photography laboratory for a time. A period of time elapsed when photography took a back seat to other interests. It wasn’t until 2008 when he was given a digital camera as a gift that once again his interest was stirred and he quickly got hooked again, realizing the potential and creativity of digital photography. Robert’s work is varied. He is fascinated by reflections and he has done a whole series of photographs capturing the image through reflection. He has also used graffiti as a backdrop to some of his images, sometimes waiting hours for the right picture. None of Robert’s pictures is digitally manipulated just enhanced for clarity and colour.

Martin Bullivant Martin Bullivant is one of the Gallery favourites and new work is always eagerly anticipated. For the Christmas Show we will have 3 new works. Unfortunately, because Martin is kept very busy with commissions and supplying Galleries in the UK, these works will not be available for the start of the exhibition. However, they are due to leave Martin very soon and we hope will be here and up on the walls within the next 10 days. As a taster, below is one of the paintings coming over to us. As a reminder and something to look forward to, Martin will be holding an exhibition in this Gallery in the Autumn of 2014.
