ELIMINATION FINAL SEABL MEN – 2:00PM

TODAY’S GAME IS SPONSORED BY

FROM THE FRONT OFFICE With the addition of online delivery avenues let’s take this opportunity to speak about both our teams this weekend. While some of you, the traditionalist will only read this message on Sunday at our Men’s game I want to take a moment to speak about our women’s team ahead of their finals campaign. What a year it has been for the girls and David Hebert alike. It’s hard to have anything but admiration for the teams commitment to their goals this year. I know we have spoken about it allot and it gets written about nearly every time someone speaks of the women’s season, but there is no hiding from the fact that our team have had a disrupted season through travel, higher duties, state teams and injuries. A lesser group might take this as an excuse for failure, but not these girls, they have taken every hit, every challenge and every hurdle in their stride and have simply risen above it each and every time. 7 days ago they still had a chance at finishing the season on top of the ladder, this is despite our marquee players Sara Blicavs (14 games) and Alex Bunton (8 games) collectively only playing the equivalent of a full season for one player. But don’t get me wrong, the girls, the coaches and the club don’t look at this as a negative. Bunts’ injury cannot be helped, she doesn’t work out every day, train every day and aspire to be the best she can be every day in order to get injured, these things just happen and when they do you have to find a way to deal with it, which our girls have. As for Sara, no one, on any team, anywhere in the world is going to stand in the way of a player reaching the pinnacle and playing for their country and we know that every time she has had the opportunity to pull on the RED singlet of the Supercats she has given everything she has got… that’s obvious. Having only played 14 games Sara was 4 th in the league MVP and made the ALL SEABL FIRST TEAM. Had she have played all 22 games, based on her average votes per game she would have been a runaway winner in the MVP, by at least 15 votes. So what does this say about the rest of the team, the coaching staff and their willingness to meet every challenge? It says that anything is possible. Now in our 6th year in the SEABL Women’s competition we are still chasing our first flag, a sign that your program has matured, that you have been able to reach to top and perform under pressure. Well if these girls have proved anything this year it’s that nothing is beyond the group and that the depth of the team can shine when needed. So to our girls who play SATURDAY night at Kilsyth for a chance to host the SEABL East Conference Final I say dare to dream… it’s your time. As for today’s game (the men’s game on Sunday that is) despite the win lose records of both teams across the season, Geelong and Sandringham are only separated by 2 points for the year. Having lost the first meeting of the year at Sandringham by 4 points, our guys got the better of the Sabres by 2 points on the return leg back here at the Geelong Arena. There is no doubt our boys hold the veteran status of the league, but that doesn’t seem to make any difference to our team. Nathan Herbert is still one of the best in the league, finishing 4 th in the league MVP and making the ALL SEABL SECOND TEAM, Jamie Medved has wound back the clock in recent years and is shooting a good as ever and Ash Cannan who calls it a day at seasons end is looking to end his career with a Championship and go out in style. Then add to that our imports, young guns and the recruitment of Ma’alo Hicks at the start of 2017. It’s a short roster, but a roster packed with talent that can perform at an elite level week in week out. Special mention this week to DeMarcus Gatlin, his season has been outstanding and he was recognised on Sunday at the SEABL awards. He polled 2nd in the league MVP, 2nd in the defensive player of the year and made the ALL SEABL SECOND TEAM. We have one more home game for the year… at the time of writing this we are still unsure exactly when that will be. By game day though we will know, so keep an eye on our social media, on the big screens in the stadium and look out for emails. Season ticket holders please note that the second home final is not included in your membership, so tickets will not automatically be reserved as they have been this time. That being said members and reserved seat holders will have first right of refusal to their seats prior to a public ticket offer. Thanks again for your support in 2017. Cheer loud today, for those traveling to Kilsyth Saturday thank you and stay safe and let’s win some Championships over the next few weeks. Enjoy the day #SeeRed #SupercatsFamily Regards, Dean Anglin CEO
