What do you love about Bates now?

I love the sense of community and shared experience, both with current students and with alumni. There is a timelessness to what Bates is all about that allows connection across generations of alumni. Although I have been out of Bates for quite a while now, the campus still feels like home. Why do you support Bates at the MDS level? For me, it’s the organization that

“I would not have been able to attend Bates without significant scholarship assistance. The education and life preparation I received have been invaluable for my career and have opened doors throughout my life. Participating in the Named Scholars program is one way I can acknowledge the opportunity I was given and play a part in providing others with a similar opportunity. I see my contributions to the Named Scholars program as an investment in the future of a deserving student as well as the college. Michael Hogan ’85 of San Francisco, Calif., is a senior vice president with Charles Schwab Corporation and has been a Named Scholars donor for the past 11 years.

“Financial aid has made it possible for me to attend Bates and has given me the opportunity to pursue research that inspires and excites me. I have been able to befriend and work with many wonderful classmates, professors, and community members, and I’m learning ways of thinking that will aid me in my endeavors for the rest of my life. The support of generous donors means the world to me.” Christina Lang ’18 of Novato, Calif., is majoring in women and gender studies with a minor in African American studies.
