We are a leading institution for the teaching of creative writing and the specialist MA Writing for Young People has an international reputation. Taught by a team of tutors who are all successful children's authors, including Professor David Almond, the course has excellent links with the industry. Over 30 graduates of the MA have careers as published writers; many are contributors to the Festival. In 2016 we enter the second phase of Paper Nations, supported through Arts Council England's strategic fund for creative writing in schools. Paper Nations brings together arts organisations, creative writers and educators to inspire a creative nation of young writers. If you believe that creativity is an important part of education, join our conversation on 4 October in the Guildhall.

BATH FESTIVALS LEARNING & PARTICIPATION PROGRAMME We aim to raise children and young people’s confidence, agency, self-esteem and engagement in the cultural life of their communities through literature and music projects.
Earn an Arts Award
Bath Festivals are excited to offer to pupils the chance to gain an Arts Award Discover as part of their participation in the festival. Working with Arts Award, we have developed a unique log book and teacher resource pack to use in conjunction with a visit to our Children’s Literature Festival. Teachers will be able to clearly guide students through tasks laid out in the log book before and after their festival visit. To complete the award costs £10 per pupil and this includes a teacher INSET, regular support and assessment plus the certificates.
Support Young Writers
Our Writers Lab group are fundraising to publish their collaborative novel and will be launching a crowdfunding campaign this summer. We hope to launch the book in the autumn, look out for more info on our website.
During the Children’s Literature Festival we deliver the School’s Programme as well as the following opportunities to explore what books and creative writing can offer young people.
YA Authors visiting Schools!
We have some brilliant YA authors available to visit schools throughout the week of the festival. These visits are suitable for KS3, 4 & 5 and cost £250. Authors include Stewart Foster, Chris Vick, Faye Bird, Tamsyn Murray & Moira Young.
Join the Readathon
This year we are delighted to be working with Readathon and we’d love everyone to get involved! Monies raised provides children's hospitals with regular storyteller visits, plus a mobile bookcase jam-packed full of brand new books. Complete your Readathon over the festival period, get friends and family to sponsor and raise money for Bristol Children’s Hospital. Sign up: readathon.org or call 0845.606.1151
