2010

Writer-In-Residence: Julia Green Our new Writer-in-Residence introduces herself. Expect to see her around in our venues throughout the festival! “I am thrilled to have been invited to be the first ever Writer-inResidence at the Bath Festival of Children’s Literature this year. As an author, I’m passionate about books and am delighted to support this festival which celebrates reading for fun. I’m particularly pleased to be writer-in-residence as a local author, living here in Bath. I write fiction for teenagers and young adults: my most recent novels are Breathing Underwater and Drawing with Light, published by Bloomsbury. My novels explore real-life, contemporary situations. I also write stories for younger children. As well as being an author, I’m the Course Director for the MA in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University. Many of our graduates are now successful children’s writers – you may meet some of them at the festival! You can come and find out more about the craft of writing for young people at an event on Thursday 30th September. In my role of Writer-in-Residence I hope to be able to support new writers of all ages through my school visits and at festival events. I’ll be meeting many of the other children’s authors who will be coming to Bath this year: keep an eye on the festival blog to find out more. I hope you’ll come and meet me at the opening night event. And maybe this year you too will be inspired to pick up a pen and a notebook, or start tapping at your computer… Read Julia’s Festival blog at: www.bathkidslitfest.wordpress.com You can find out more about Julia’s books by looking at her website at www.julia-green.co.uk

Join us for the summer installment of the Kids Big Bath Read and travel to the steamy jungle of Indonesia. Running Wild by Michael Morpurgo is an epic jungle adventure about a boy, Will and an elephant called Oona - with nothing to cling on to but an elephant and nothing to help him but the clothes on his back, Will faces a terrifying future but maybe the jungle and Oona the elephant, can help him! Schools and young people can enter an art competition to transform Bath Central Library (well, a small part of it!) into the jungle. To find out more, including how to get your hands on a free copy of Running Wild, prizes and other Kids Big Bath Read events, please contact the Bath Festival Education Team: education@bathfestivals.org.uk
