We’ll demonstrate a range of techniques including pen/pathfinder tools, live trace and working with type and logos. Starting with simple tweaks to exposure and focus, we’ll show you how to edit and manipulate your photographs. This will be the first of an ongoing series of archaeology events centred around beautiful Newton Park campus. We will get together with our ex-Time Team staff (Cassie Newland) and BACAS (our friendly local archaeology society) to explore the grounds of Newton Park. We’ll be discovering hidden features (such as our THREE deserted medieval villages) and checking on well loved ones (like our fabulous castle). On the day we will be getting out in groups to record these treasures and hope to produce a Condition Survey which will allow us to understand the wealth of archaeological resources on campus. This is the first step towards a programme of ongoing events that will hopefully include topographical and geophysical survey as well as targeted excavations. Join us in taking our very first steps to understanding the archaeology of Newton Park! Please bring along a camera or camera phone and a pen. Bathscape Media Instant Prototyping Jam

A facilitated instant prototyping jam, which will include devising interaction points using Raspberry Pi kits, including sensors, speakers, buttons etc and pre-fabricated lasercut casings and assemble them yourself. This will involve devising and generating sample content, assessing the site and identifying routes and locations. We’d love to form a creative team of writers, photographers, social media activists, makers of all kinds, computer geeks, foodies, producers, organisers, techies, sound designers, history nuts, GISwizzes, poets, musos, artists and communicators of all kinds who would be up for working in teams on a creative project in our nearest urban village, Twerton. You don’t need to be all these things you just need to be up for having a go and working with others. Cyber Wargame for Beginners

Deep Economy: Transforming ‘the dismal science’ from the inside out

Living on a finite planet with an economic system that consumes everything in its wake sounds like a bad idea. So, how did rational, utility-maximising Homo Economicus let it get this way? In this thought-provoking, interactive workshop we will attempt to answer this question, alongside others such as ‘Why is it hard to stop shopping?’ ‘How come so many people hate their jobs?’ and ‘Does it have to be this way?’ With the help of two bearded men, four squares, nine needs and countless post-it notes we will dissect our culture’s inner workings, find out what we really value and discover new ways of practicing economics that are just, regenerative and life-affirming.   This workshop is of particular interest to people who find economics frustrating, disgusting or boring. Introductory workshop in Indian classical music, particularly the instruments of tabla and dilruba, as well as Indian raagas and taalas (rhythmic patterns). We want to create a student-led, inclusive community. A place for ideas, risk taking and peer learning, as well as professional development through ‘inhabiting’ the University in a variety of creative ways. Inhabit 1 will take place during the first SPA Week and will be a schedule of facilitated provocations, ideas workshops and careers/enterprise support sessions, ending with formed collaborations and pitched ideas for outcomes in SPA Week 2. Marking the Space Marking the Space is a series of discussions with Annette Mees from the Royal Opera House, Sarah Ellis from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Katherine Jewkes a freelance digital creative director who has worked with the National Theatre Wales and Manchester International Festival. Sashiko: Repair and renew denim workshop

Sashiko is a Japanese embroidery that is commonly used for repairing denim. Bring along any denim jeans, jackets or bags that you would like to patch and get support on the process. We want to introduce the idea of upcycling, recycling and mending clothes, bags – in fact, any fabric garment – in order to reduce waste and save money. It’s also a good skill for reducing stress, enhancing well-being and mindfulness.
