CHILDREN’S MUSEUM
As a New Orleans native, I was one of countless children who benefited from visiting my local children’s museum. Children’s museums provide one of the first exposures to literacy, STEM, and arts education in a fun and engaging way. There is nothing quite like learning through play, and all children should have access to this formative experience.
I have been a fundraising professional since 2018, having served both museums and an elementary school. When I moved to Baton Rouge, Knock Knock Children’s Museum was a natural fit. I now combine my expertise in the two fields, connecting donors’ passions with actionable change to make our children— and therefore our community—stronger. Knock Knock Children’s Museum is a vital resource for the people of Baton Rouge and beyond. I am honored to help ensure it is a Capital Area landmark for generations to come.

KATHY COLEMAN
President GRANDPARENTS RAISING GRANDCHILDREN
As she entered her 50s, Kathy Coleman found herself in an unusual and unexpected situation … raising her own grandchildren. She was fortunate to connect with a group called Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GRG), which had been founded by Dot Thibodeaux and Danna Spayde in 1993. Kathy became invested in their mission and after Dot’s death in 2019, was named president of the group. Today, GRG is a nonprofit that provides legal, health, behavioral, adoption, and support resources to caregivers with the help of volunteers, lawyers, and counselors. More than anything, GRG shares support and hope for these new “grand-families.”
“I was close to both Dot and Danna and I’m proud of what they accomplished and how they helped so many people,” Kathy says. “My goal now is to meet people where they are. We cater to grandparents, but we’re here to help anyone raising a child to whom they are biologically related. They need to know they are not alone.”
The organization operates by appointment only and offers quarterly legal workshops at the EBRP Library.

KEVIN & TAYLOR GAUSMAN
As parents, Kevin and Taylor Gausman recognize how integral it is to instill confidence in children. That confidence stems from what they wear, how they feel, what they eat, and so much more. By providing schools with hygiene kits, feminine products, school uniforms, snacks, and more, the Gausmans are helping children feel understood, cherished and celebrated through their nonprofit organization, The Gausman Project.
They focus on schools in Baton Rouge, which holds a special place in their hearts. The couple met at Louisiana State University where Kevin played baseball and Taylor was a cheerleader and math major. Today, they split their time between homes in Baton Rouge and Canada where Kevin plays baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays. Through their work, the Gausmans are dedicated to an environment where every child is accepted and knows they have someone in their corner.

Louisiana 211/CAUW: From Homeless to Hopeful
Marissa, a single mother of three children, ages 8, 6, and 3, found herself in a desperate situation after losing her job and, subsequently, her apartment. Unable to secure affordable housing, she was forced to live in her aging sedan with her children.
A concerned neighbor noticed Marissa's plight and told her about 211. After contacting 211, Marissa was connected with a compassionate care coordinator who helped her navigate various social services and housing programs. The care coordinator assessed her situation and quickly identified several urgent needs: temporary shelter, food assistance, and employment services.
The care coordinator connected Marissa with a local family shelter and nearby food banks. She also informed Marissa about job training programs and childcare assistance options to help her regain stability. Over the next few weeks, Marissa worked closely with her care coordinator. She secured temporary housing, enrolled in a job skills program, and applied for subsidized childcare.
Three months later, Marissa found part-time employment and is on a waiting list for subsidized housing. While challenges remain, the resources provided through 211 have given her family a path to stability and hope for the future.

Thanks to our community partners’ contributions, we offer nationally certified and state-licensed athletic trainers to high schools and youth sports organizations at reduced rates or no cost. Last year alone, our vulnerable young athletes received over $10,000 in advanced imaging diagnostics and high-quality orthopedic treatment. During Game Day Prep, we provided over 1,000 free athletic physicals, conducted by orthopedic and family medicine physicians.

Girl Scouts can also work on earning three of the highest awards—Bronze, Silver and Gold—to make sustainable impact. In addition, GSLE has worked to form community-based troops through outreach efforts, reaching nearly 1,000 girls in underserved areas of Baton Rouge and New Orleans. MISSION STATEMENT
To feed the hungry in Baton Rouge and the surrounding parishes by providing food and educational outreach through faith-based and other community partners.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
DOUG STEWART Chairperson,StewartRobbins Brown & Altazan, LLC
LOUISIANA IS #1 in the nation for child and senior hunger. One in five children in our service area experiences food insecurity, meaning they lack consistent access to enough food for active, healthy lives. Our goal is to reduce the number of food insecure individuals by collecting, purchasing, and distributing food through more than 125 partner agencies. Our free mobile app allows people to find a pantry near them.
OUR WORK IN THE COMMUNITY
WE SPONSOR FOOD DRIVES to benefit our mission, which expands beyond traditional fundraising with community favorite events such as the Slice of Life Golf Classic. While there are many ways to give, these community events have been a valuable avenue for raising critical funds to support feeding those in need. The Food Bank cannot operate without the support of its dedicated volunteers. In 2023, more than 14,500 volunteers donated over 56,300 hours of service.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Volunteer with sorting and categorizing, disaster response efforts, helping with warehouse cleaning, administrative duties, or mobile outreach programs.
Donate: If you cannot donate your time, remember that $1 can provide the equivalent of three meals for neighbors in need.
LOUISIANA #1 IN CHILD & SENIOR HUNGER
121k+ FOOD INSECURE IN OUR AREA
Map the Meal Gap 2024 is the latest Feeding America report on food insecurity at the state and parish level from 2022 data. In our 11-parish service area alone, 13.7% of our population overall are food insecure. More staggering is the fact that 1 in 5 children are considered food insecure, meaning they are unable to consistently secure the equivalent of three meals a day.
Many of these food insecure children and seniors live in a household that does not qualify for most federal nutrition programs. Your Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank is committed to the mission of feeding the hungry by providing food and educational outreach through faith-based and other community partners.
Food insecure households may not always be food insecure, but it may reflect a household’s need to decide between basic needs - such as housing, paying bills and purchasing nutritionally adequate foods for their families.
You can make a difference in their lives by simply giving food, donating funds or volunteering your time in service to others. We are able to do so much more with your support. Get involved today or visit us to learn more because Together We’re Fighting Hunger.

WHO WE ARE OUR WORK IN THE COMMUNITY
SINCE 1865, WE have achieved our mission through person-to-person contact, mass feeding, sheltering, prescription medicine services, and other programs. Our top programs include: the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room (over 255,000 meals annually); the Bishop Ott Shelter Program (over 26,000 nights of shelter annually for men, women, children and families); and our Community Pharmacy (providing $700,000 each year in prescription medicine). THE STRUGGLING ECONOMY continues to seem like a bad dream, but it’s all too real and impacts every one of us. For those experiencing poverty and homelessness, their worst fears have been realized. We are working hard to keep hope alive for the most vulnerable of our community. As a recognized community leader in homeless, housing and food services, we serve hot meals every day, provide shelter to homeless men, women, children and families, and fill life sustaining prescriptions. Join us in giving a hand-up of hope to those in need!
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Join the 1,500 individuals who volunteer monthly at St. Vincent de Paul. Together we can provide hope to those who need it most.
Consider a donation. Just $1 will provide a hot meal; $10 will provide a night of shelter for a homeless family; and $28 will fill a life-sustaining prescription.
Donate cars, clothing, food, furniture and precious metals.
HAND-UP OF
FOR 158 YEARS, we have been providing compassion and hope to those most in need by serving meals, providing shelter, making home visits, filling prescriptions and the list could go on and on.
During these difficult economic times, we are working diligently to prevent homelessness and to shelter individuals and families in a situation of homelessness. Many people are experiencing homelessness because they have lost a job, become disabled, or have no family or friends to turn to, but some are homeless because of mental illness or problems with addiction. What they all need is a safe place to stay, people who care, and a chance to get back on their feet.
That’s the purpose of the St. Vincent de Paul “Hope Card” to tell those who are in need about the services we provide. Feel free to cut out our Hope Card to the left or visit www.svdpbr.org/hope-card to print and keep in your pocket or car. Rather than providing cash, our Hope Card can provide linkages to services to help someone in need with a hand-up to meals, shelter, medicine and other vital services.

WHO WE ARE
MISSION STATEMENT
Established in 1968, the YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge has been committed to empowering the lives of women and children and eliminating racism in the capital region for the past 55 years. In service to that mission, the YWCA has developed a diverse array of programs to meet the needs of families in our community. Each year, our Early Head Start centers serve over 200 families by providing prenatal and early childhood education. The YWCA also supports women and families experiencing homelessness, unemployment, and those who are survivors of domestic and gender-based violence. Our work is dedicated to ensuring that the women and children of Louisiana can safely build their futures on a solid foundation.
OUR WORK IN THE COMMUNITY
The YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge is committed to addressing the barriers to economic success faced by women, families, and survivors of domestic violence in the capital region. In July 2024, the YWCA officially opened Providence Place, an apartment community dedicated to providing long-term affordable housing for women and children who have experienced violence. The women and children residing at Providence Place benefit from state-of-the-art security monitoring and the support of the YWCA’s case management, community, and legal services. This Fall, the YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge is thrilled to announce the opening of our new YWCA Women’s Empowerment Center at Mid-City Gardens--a first-of-its-kind center dedicated to providing wrap-around services to women, families, and survivors of domestic and gender-based violence. The YWCA‘s community and legal services at the center include emergency shelter, housing assistance, workforce development, legal representation, and mentorship programming for at-risk teen girls. Located in the heart of Baton Rouge, the YWCA Women’s Empowerment Center at MidCity Gardens will empower women and families to lead economically enhanced lives. YOUR VITAL SUPPORT allows our not-for-profit hospital to continue providing outstanding service and high-quality healthcare.
• Arts in Medicine: By integrating art and music into the hospital environment, BRG provides emotional and mental support to patients, their families, and staff. Music therapists, artists-in-residence, volunteers, and community partners collaborate to create a soothing atmosphere that promotes recovery and well-being. Through personalized creative experiences, BRG aims to uplift spirits, reduce stress, and enhance the overall healing process.
• Mobile Health Unit: BRGF and BRG’s Family Medicine Residency Program are establishing our first mobile health unit program, BRG Care on the Go, that will bring medical care and resources directly to patients in North Baton Rouge, increasing access to care where it is needed most.
3D Mammography: BRG’s Mid City campus, home to the High-Risk Breast Clinic, now offers advanced 3D mammography technology thanks to funds raised by BRGF and BRG’s Volunteer Auxiliary board. This state-of-the-art machine provides clearer images, ensuring high-risk patients, including those who are under or uninsured, receive the timely care that they need.
• Camp Catahoula: BRG’s Regional Burn Center offers a special summer camp program for pediatric burn survivors that helps children connect with peers and role models who understand trauma caused by burn injuries. Campers come together for a week of fun—arts and crafts, canoeing, cooking, fishing, horseback riding, and more—while interacting and sharing experiences with other burn survivors. With the help of generous donors, we can send children to camp at no expense to their families.

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Capital Area CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is to advocate for timely placement of abused and neglected children in permanent, safe, and stable homes.
IN 1992, a group of concerned individuals came together with a shared vision to make a meaningful difference in the lives of abused and neglected children. Recognizing the urgent need for advocacy within the foster care system, they established Capital Area CASA Association, a nonprofit organization. They had a deep commitment to ensuring that every child in the foster care system has a voice and a dedicated advocate to champion their best interests. Each one provides a powerful voice for the most vulnerable children. Over the past 32 years, the impact of their work has been nothing short of transformative.
OUR WORK IN THE COMMUNITY
CASA HAS GROWN thanks to the dedication of more than 1,600 individuals who have selflessly given their time by standing up for the rights and well-being of almost 3,667 children. Through their commitment and care, they ensure foster children are not lost in the system, but rather seen, heard, and supported. By advocating for safe, permanent homes and ensuring that each child’s needs are met, volunteers have provided stability and hope in situations that often seem hopeless. Their work is a testament to the power of community and the impact individuals have when they come together for a common cause.

WHO WE ARE
SINCE 1954, The Arc Baton Rouge has been a pillar of support and a vital resource for our area’s individuals affected by disabilities (“different abilities”) and their families. We understand that researching and gaining access to every service needed for these individuals throughout their lifetime can be challenging. Our goal is to reach and educate families about services offered in our area and assist in any way possible to ensure each individual receives adequate daily care and support. We are also one of two Arcs in the state that support Early Steps programs for babies and children with special abilities.
OUR WORK IN THE COMMUNITY
THE ARC BATON ROUGE offers daily support services (both in-home and at our facilities) through day habilitation services, vocational services, and in-home care support. Our day habilitation services provide individuals with a caring homeaway-from-home environment, socialization, and activities while allowing their families and caregivers an opportunity to work and complete tasks that may be difficult for individuals with different abilities. For our vocational program, individuals participate in supervised daily tasks in our community. Our in-home services provide additional support to those who want to maintain their independence.

WHO WE ARE
FOR 30 YEARS the River Road African American Museum has sought to empower living residents of the rural River Parishes of Louisiana to narrate their own stories and the stories of their ancestors. Beginning at the Tezcuco Plantation and traveling to our permanent location in Donaldsonville, LA., we have aided in the discovery, preservation and commemoration of hundreds of formerly enslaved people and their descendants’ burial sites. During this time, we have either narrated the genealogy or enabled direct descendants to narrate and research their genealogy giving voice to truth as it is relative to their experiences.
OUR WORK IN THE COMMUNITY
WE EDUCATE PEOPLE of varying demographics on history, archiving, and cultural preservation. Our goal is to continue legacies and encourage the expansion of careers focused in cultural preservation to inspire a future generation of change makers for our global society. This is achieved through community engagement and programming such as our Genealogy Workshops, Freedom Garden activations, Oral History Projects, S.T.R.E.A.M. educational programming, Listening Room Sessions, and various other programming. Our work has allowed our community to engage with global leaders and international travelers.

With strong partnerships and innovative outreach, we provide resources including self-care, inspirational and creative arts workshops, and micro-loans for female entrepreneurs. Through our Project Hope, programs are free for anyone undergoing cancer treatment. The lives of women are changed as they face life challenges with new self-awareness, personal healing and empowerment. Additionally, we host a Community Fridge, addressing food insecurity in our neighborhood. The Red Shoes is a haven for those seeking transformation, creating a more inclusive and compassionate world.

MISSION STATEMENT
Volunteers of America is a movement organized to reach and uplift all people. We measure our success in positive change in the lives of individuals and communities we serve.
WHO WE ARE
SINCE 1921, Volunteers of America has served the most vulnerable members of our community. We are a premier provider of effective, high-quality social services, including:
• Behavioral/mental health for children and adults
• Early childhood care and education
• Support for adults with disabilities
• Affordable and safe housing
• Assistance for at-risk Veterans and seniors
• Homeless outreach
• Offender re-entry/transition
We believe that meeting basic needs can be life-changing; that social programs don’t have to be big, complicated, expensive, or impersonal; and that human services are most effective when carried out in a spirit of kindness and caring.
OUR WORK IN THE COMMUNITY
OUR CONSUMERS ARE obviously at the heart of what we do every day. Last year, we served more than 39,000 individuals. They are some of the most vulnerable members of our community, including families in poverty, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, homeless individuals, those with behavioral/mental health issues, veterans, low-income seniors, and at-risk youth and foster children. We aim to create a community where all people live in safety, with social, emotional and physical well-being, spiritual fulfillment, justice and hope.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES OF BATON ROUGE
MISSION STATEMENT
We proclaim the gospel vision of Jesus Christ, serving the needs of individuals and families, especially the poorest, and working with Church and community for justice, peace, and compassion.
MESSAGE FROM NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
I am honored and humbled to be appointed as the new executive director of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge. As we embark on this new journey together, I am reminded of Mother Teresa’s words: "Do something beautiful for God." By helping people in their greatest time of need, whether that be a homeless pregnant mother, prospective adoptive parents, families climbing out of homelessness, or those fleeing persecution and war, we are doing something beautiful for God.
At the heart of our mission is the dignity of every human being. This core principle of Catholic Social Teaching guides all we do and has guided my work since I started my social work career 27 years ago.
Our work is often challenging, and always undeniably important. Together we will continue to provide life-changing services for our neighbors and clients, partnering with our community for support and contributions. I am grateful for the Diocese of Baton Rouge Chancery leadership, our dedicated Advisory Board members, and our mission-driven team of employees, and I look forward to this new era of providing help and creating hope.

WHO WE ARE
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge traces its history back to the oldest Catholic Charities in the nation. OUR WORK IN THE COMMUNITY
CCDBR serves as a lifeline for many in need, providing essential support to those facing challenging circumstances. Pregnant women without homes, families fleeing persecution and war, and families struggling to provide food for their children seek refuge and assistance at our doors daily.
