3- SPE.SYS Barrel SPE.SYS Barrel is the innovation that is assumed to set this bat apart. The launch angle of batted balls is improved in the optimal launch angle zone by these internal grooves (between 20 and 30 degrees). The reason behind these designs specifically for right-handed and left-handed hitters is that grooves should be parallel to the ground at optimal contact. Demarini shares the data obtained during the Gattaca study, and this is where they get the amount of 10 percent changes. The Gattaca performed about 10 percent better than a stock bat (one without the grooves) when a ball was hit at the optimal launch angle and max exit velocity at about 90 percent of hitters. Again, this bat isn't meant to deliver magically amazing results from a poor swing and poor contact. The purpose is to get more out of your best swing by hitting a ball at a launch angle that can produce extra-base hits and home runs. If you're not at the point where you can hit the ball in the gap as a hitter, then this is definitely not the bat for you. But 10-20 ft of carrying can mean a lot when it comes to balls in the gap. Singles become doubles. Doubles become home runs.
A Quick Review This bat is liked by bigger, stronger hitters. If you are a contact hitter or high OBP type, don't expect to get extra oomph. Stay within the realm of the composite. Nonetheless, those who swing with great strength can see the bat 's benefits. It is exciting to see the innovative ideas from DeMarini in practice. We admire the efforts DeMarini has made to release unique goods, and they did a great job on the 2020 Demarini Gattaca bats. The variety of new features on the 2020 DeMarini's BBCOR Gattaca bats make it special from any bat on the market, and this year, we expect the Gattaca to be very common across all baseball bats and levels. We wouldn't be surprised if more bat makers leverage these technologies.
Recommendations We liked three things about Gattaca 2020: design, innovation, and price. First off, the bat consists of a hybrid two-piece design that uses many of the elements found in the beloved DeMarini Voodoo. Second, the aluminum barrel technology improves performance in a BBCOR environment where a lot of manufacturers have been stuck to the limit. And finally, while more costly in the BBCOR space than the typical two-piece performance combination, the Gattaca has a fair price point — DeMarini isn't expecting to recapture all of their R&D on the bat's first run.
