As part of the Wandsworth Heritage Festival, our Town Hall Talk on June 1st focused on our sheepscapes project, which told the story of the commons, where sheep were grazed by farmers, commoners and landowners alike. In this project, sheep are emblematic of the struggles between public and private ownership, between city and country, between the past and present. So whilst the soundscapes and landscapes of rural Wandsworth are now obscured by traffic and buildings, in quieter moments those whistles, rustles and chimes might just be the Wandsworth sheep, still on the move.
Local historian Dorian Gerhold spoke about the borough’s rural past and his work with sound artist Dan Scott to create the soundscape that can be heard by trying on one of five beautiful head pieces created by Natalie Moggridge.
