How does Baylor lead?
With a clear, innovative curriculum taught by some of the nations’ leading educators. Beyond academics, we blaze trails in everything from community service, to sustainability to the arts. Our greatest strength? An extraordinary awareness of each student’s individual promise. Baylor offers Advanced Placement (AP) college-level courses in 22 subjects, including Human Geography, Spanish Literature, Calculus, Environmental Science, and Studio Art. Our adviser system pairs students with faculty advocates, fostering strong relationships. The English as a Foreign Language (EFL) program, which covers vocabulary, grammar, writing, and U.S. history and culture, helps support our international students. Baylor’s outdoor education program, Walkabout, was one of the first of its kind in the country. Baylor students have countless opportunities for learning off campus (sometimes way off, such as Asheville, Washington, D.C., Italy, and India). The Leadership Baylor program includes seminars, team-building class retreats, and guest speakers, culminating with the Senior Capstone project. Recent projects have included organizing a Special Olympics swim meet, promoting campus recycling, and holding a book drive to raise funds for schools in Uganda.

Community.
Being “on your own” for the first time means great freedom, and even greater responsibility. Baylor boarders are invested in their home – they are involved in everything. And to keep it from becoming overwhelming, we have a strong support system in place that includes dorm parents, Families Assisting Boarding Students (FABS), academic advisers, and the student-staffed Peer Support Network.

Founded in 1893, Baylor is a coeducational day and boarding, college preparatory school enrolling students in grades 6-12 (boarding for grades 9-12). Mission: To foster in our students both the ability and the desire to make a positive difference in the world.
Arts: Our arts facilities are among the finest in the nation. They include the Roddy Performing Arts Center (media arts, dance, drama), the Ireland Arts Studio (pottery, drawing, painting, computer graphics), and the Music Building. There’s even a dance studio in our field house.
Students: More than 1,000 students from 21 states and 17 countries. There are approximately 700 students in the upper school (over 220 of whom are boarding students), and 360 students in the middle school. Coeducation: Baylor students benefit from a coeducational learning environment. At Baylor, as in the world, both girls and boys occupy leadership positions and participate fully in the life of the school. Cultural Diversity: We actively seek students who bring different geographic, economic, social, ethnic, and racial backgrounds to our community. Fourteen percent of upper school students identify themselves as students of color; international students make up seven percent of the upper school student body. All Baylor students benefit from the global and cultural perspectives that our boarding students bring.
Honor Code: The honor code is an understanding among Baylor students that they do not want among them one who will lie, cheat, steal, or falsify information.
Faculty: Baylor faculty members are more than instructors: they’re advisers, mentors, and friends who build strong relationships with students. More than 60 percent of our teaching faculty hold advanced degrees (including plenty of PhDs). Academics: One hundred percent of Baylor graduates go on to colleges and universities nationwide, including Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Hopkins, M.I.T., and Yale. Baylor offers Advanced Placement courses in 20 subjects. Technology: The Weeks Science and Technology building houses 100 computers, 14 laboratories, state-of-the-art computer classrooms, and robotics equipment. SMART Boards are used in many campus classrooms. Campus: Our 670 acres on the Tennessee River include a state-of-the-art science and technology building, eight dormitories, library, chapel, sports complex, fine arts complex, dining hall, the area’s only indoor 50-meter pool, and much more.
Scholarships and Financial Aid: A Baylor education is a significant investment, but it doesn’t have to be out of your family’s reach. Over $3 million in needbased financial aid is awarded to approximately 25 percent of the student body. Tuition payment plans and academic merit scholarships are also available for qualifying students.
