READY TO LEAD

At Baylor, intercultural learning starts on day one. We teach five world languages with post-AP level courses in three. Our students hail from 14 different countries, and our Global Scholars Program connects language learning with a globally-focused curriculum and meaningful international travel experiences. When you graduate from Baylor, you graduate ready for the world.

Our mission? To make a positive difference in the world. Fostering that ability and desire in you is what Baylor is all about. It’s the thread that weaves through all of our academic experiences, starting with our leading programs. Global Scholars focuses learning through an international lens, while Civic Scholars emphasizes civic engagement. Students in our Scientific Analysis and Research Program work directly with top research scientists to tackle global health issues.

With honor. Dating back to 1916, Baylor’s honor code is the moral compass for our entire community. Students, faculty, and staff commit to acting with honesty and integrity.

Student-led clubs regularly engage in environmental cleanup – locally, regionally, and nationally.

“This trip has given me a sense of what daily life in India is really like. I’ll remember my experiences here for the rest of my life.” – Caroline Moon on a Baylor Walkabout trip in Hampi, India

Embrace

THE awesomely

ly independent person you are.

Baylor boarding students learn how to self-advocate as responsible members of a close-knit community. You’ll get a jump on those ever-important “adulting” skills (like time management). And you will make friends for life. “Even though at first it was tough to see my family leave, I immediately felt like I had a new family at Baylor,” says Ridley Browder ’20.

Why coed? The world doesn’t divide down gender lines, with boys on one side and girls on the other. We all have to be able to work together. At Baylor we appreciate – and learn from – each other’s differences.

There’s no one way to “be” Baylor. Middle School, Upper School, day students, boarders. There’s no one type of Baylor student, but there is one strong Baylor community. It feels like family here – and that's especially true for the nearly 200 Upper School boarding Students who call this campus home. Baylor has six dormitories, each welcoming in its own way, with stone patios, comfy common areas, and plenty of nooks where you can hole up and read some Shakespeare (or quantum theory, depending on your taste). More than 40 faculty members live on campus, with their kids and pets and families, and when the school day ends, they turn into mentors – as well as cooks, counselors, and mediators. Sometimes it’s easier to pour your heart out to a friend, though. With dormmates from 13 different countries, you can count on getting a fresh perspective. Student prefects and proctors are also always on hand to listen and advise.

Boarding but never bored. Weekends fill up fast – with concerts, speakers, movies, open mic and game nights, and plenty of campus get-togethers.

The Cartter Scholars Program awards four new Baylor boarding students each year with scholarships ranging from full- to quarter-tuition. The scholars are automatically enrolled in Baylor’s prestigious Harris-Stanford Honors Program, bringing them face-to-face with corporate executives, community leaders, and elected officials, in order to hone their leadership and civic engagement skills.

More than 75 percent of Baylor teachers hold advanced degrees, including 15 Ph.D.’s.

immerse yourself

in the real world of research.

Baylor students don’t study science; they do science. They're developing alternatives to chemotherapy, creating a virus that counteracts antibiotic resistance, and building a Virtual Reality platform for concussion therapy. If you’re in Baylor’s Scientific Analysis and Research Program, you're part of a student/faculty team that’s generating ongoing, meaningful data for projects with real-world partners.

Get Outside: the classroom, your comfort zone, expectations.

Burning up the track, eco-style. Several Middle School students spent a semester engineering an electric Indy car – and took first place in Chattanooga’s annual “Green Prix.”

40 years of leading the way in experiential learning. Walkabout is Baylor’s boundary-defying outdoor program that could take you backpacking on the Appalachian Trail, surfing in Panama, or trekking through India.

BaylorWorks Internship Program. Our alumni office connects graduating seniors and college-age alumni with business and industry experiences, like spending a summer researching at the Georgia Cancer Center in Augusta, Ga. Recent placements have included internships in education, finance, sports marketing, and non-profit management.

Be inspired by some truly magnificent spaces. If the Baylor campus had an actual heart, you’d find it in the PAC. Built in 2018, the Scotty Probasco Academic Center is a $14 million, 33,852 square-foot space with flexible, tech-enhanced classrooms and multi-use collaboration spaces. The PAC is home to most of Baylor’s Upper School English and history classes as well as a sunlit atrium that’s a favorite campus gathering spot. The PAC also houses Baylor’s Learning Center, where students can seek help on any subject. Sometimes that means working one-on-one with a tutor, sometimes it’s as simple as collaborating with a classmate – or having a conversation that sparks some different thinking. Everyone uses (okay, loves) the Learning Center.

“When I first walked into the new Scotty Probasco Academic Center, I felt so grateful for such a beautiful campus and beautiful building. It shows how much students are valued at Baylor.” – Elisabeth Lau ’21

An abundance of arts. Sixth graders don’t dabble in the arts, they dive in headfirst. Every sixth-grade student rotates through all of Baylor’s art offerings, from sculpture and printing to dance and choir.

Make the most of every single moment.

Baylor students spend roughly 12,000 hours collectively a year lending a hand and helping others, tutoring underserved kids in Chattanooga, working in an Asheville shelter for people experiencing homelessness, or raising money for children in Jamaica to attend school.

It’s easy to do at Baylor, because there is so much to do. Be a tennis player and a Baylor Player. Bring a story to life in the writers’ collective. Get your hands dirty in organic gardening. Cheerlead, then help kids learn to read. Participation in after-school activities is a requirement, so your only challenge is deciding how to spend your time. With a huge variety of options, from student-led clubs and organizations to more than 70 sports teams, there’s something for everyone.

Raiders Against Prejudice. RAP is just one of Baylor’s dozens of clubs. RAP members meet for dinner discussions to put into practice the idea that political and opposing viewpoints can spark worthwhile dialogue, tolerance, and understanding.

We welcome and respect all faiths. At Baylor School we believe that faith is central to every person’s life and that the study of religion is an essential part of a complete education. While the majority of Baylor’s students and faculty are Christian, all major world religions are represented in the school. Students have opportunities both on campus and off to practice their faith.

up your Game Our athletes are nationally recognized for excellence on the field and in the classroom, so it's not surprising that more than 100 Baylor graduates are competing for their college programs, many at highly selective schools such as Stanford, Virginia, Harvard, and Penn.

Lead like a Baylor alum. They set the bar high. And so will you. Natalie Brackett is making a positive difference in the world, and it all started with a Baylor trip to India, where she was deeply moved by her visit to the Sikkim Happiness Home, a refuge for orphaned and disadvantaged Himalayan girls. At Washington University in St. Louis, Natalie started out as a Classics major but kept thinking about India. She eventually switched her major to Anthropology and Religious Studies, went on to teach in Thailand, and earned her M.Ed. in International Education Policy and Management from Vanderbilt University. Today Natalie works as a Standards and Practice Coordinator for the Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE). INEE provides education in times of great strife, whether war, poverty, natural disaster, or refugee crisis. “When I look back on the schedule I had as a Baylor student, I think, ‘Oh my gosh... how did I do all those things?’ I had a full plate, but I was encouraged to make the most of all the opportunities and everything I was involved in. And that has paid off for me in spades.”

“I ended up in the humanitarian sector because I developed such strong relationships with the communities I got to know in the Himalayas.” -Natalie Brackett ’09

Tiffany Williams ’07 is building community in Atlanta’s art scene. In 2016 she founded TILA Studios, a visual arts incubator that provides emerging black female artists with studio and gallery space.

For Bo Chamberlain ’90, Baylor is a family tradition. Bo is a fourth-generation Baylor legacy whose grandfather, Captain Hiram Chamberlain, was one of the school’s early investors. Currently Bo teaches social studies in the Middle School – and can’t help but be moved by the continuity that represents. “I don’t know if it’s because I love history, or if I am terribly sentimental, but I feel the history of Baylor deeply.”

Keith Mitchell ’10 is playing golf at the highest level. Keith earned his first PGA tour victory when he won the 2019 Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
