Celebrating 50 years 1969 - 2019 Our Story After working as a fine meats purveyor in a successful family butchers Craig Staples took on the Dudley Arms in 1969 with his wife Betty Staples. They made a significant impression very quickly and by 1971 they added a large extension to the restaurant before having to expand again in the early 80s, extending the kitchen and building a second restaurant, known as the Bistro. Since these early days, Craig and Bettys children have subsequently taken over the business to operate in the well-established family tradition.
Celebrating 50 years To this day all our meat is butchered and prepared in our very own kitchen, making us renowned for our fantastic steak options. Over the past 50 years, we have become famous for the flowering onion -it’s a unique feature of ours and is talked about far and wide!

A Good Read The Cactus by Sarah Haywood I must admit the main reason I was attracted to The Cactus was the stunning vibrant front cover which immediately made it stand out from the shelves. The title of the book refers to the main character Susan who initially comes over as prickly independent and needing a life full of order. She lives in an organised London flat with a successful long standing career and a relationship with very strict ground rules. Susan’s life is suddenly going to become a whole lot more complicated following the death of her mother. The most enjoyable aspect of the book for me was the empathy I felt for all the characters in the story. Despite Susans prickly exterior I really warmed to her and the way she managed to break free from her restrictions and live in the moment. Lots of themes are explored sibling rivalry, alcoholism, single parents and pregnancy to name a few. The tag line from the front cover ‘it’s never too late to bloom, do not let life pass you by’ is certainly a message to take from this debut novel by Sarah Haywood.

Thirsty Thursday Stokesley T
hirsty Thursday Stokesley the award winning Business network group, celebrated its fourth birthday in November 2018 and has hit the ground running in 2019. Sue Thompson, Stokesley business owner set up the networking group with her colleague Anna Addison in 2014 and since December 2017, Sue has been running it single handily, continuing to expand the group with both Stokesley and surrounding village businesses. The monthly event launched in November 2014 at The Mill in Stokesley and has maintained the vital link with the pub over the last four years. Having the support of one of the most successful businesses in Stokesley to provide a superb venue and delicious canapes for the networking event, has enabled Thirsty Thursday to remain free to all of its members and plan to stay that way in the future. Over the last four years the network group has been shortlisted multiple times and won a Hambleton Business award as well as being successful in applying for funding from Hambleton District Council and York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Enterprise Partnership to help support the thriving network group. Sue Thompson, Thirsty Thursday founder said: “I am always delighted to see lots of local Stokesley businesses continuing to support Thirsty Thursday, we will continue to help local businesses to get together for as long as there is an interest. We know many businesses have benefitted from meeting, networking and talking together to help grow, support and improve their businesses. Here’s to the next four years.” The group encourages business organisations to provide news and valuable information to the group on a wide range of topics from funding

opportunities to helping you to get your invoices paid. The speakers are a valuable source of key information for businesses which Thirsty Thursday think would be of use. Coming up in April, (Thursday 25th April) we will be joined by Rosalind Pollard from RP Therapies to talk to the group about being mindful and calm at work, something a little bit different. Thirsty Thursday are also fundraising currently to help fund the purchase and installation of a Defibrillator for use on the Stokesley Business Park, the group is looking to get support from local businesses to maintain the vital equipment and give the access that may be required within the Business Park. If your business is interested in donating or providing support, please contact Sue Thompson on info@thirstyThursdayStokesley. co.uk or please take a look online at our website at www.thirstyThursdaystokesley. co.uk for the latest news about Stokesley businesses and the dates of the next events. All businesses from Stokesley and the surrounding villages are welcome to our FREE event.
