Letter from the Mayor

Hello,

Let me take this opportunity to welcome you to Eaton Rapids, Michigan’s “Island” community. The downtown is actually an “island.” It sits in the middle of the confluence of the Mighty Grand (the longest river in the State of Michigan) and the Spring Brook.

Our community has a rich heritage, being founded in 1837. It has been the sight of a large woolen industry, an ice cream industry, a windmill manufacturer and a myriad of logging and agricultural pursuits. Today, we host one of the largest magnesium based manufacturing facilities in the world.

Our residents are without parallel. The “biggest hearts” in Mid-Michigan. An annual food drive brings out everybody to donate. Our Independence Day celebration has no rivals. Our Memorial Day observance and annual Christmas Celebrations are legendary.

Recreational opportunities abound. The river offers kayaking, canoeing, fishing and a whole host of water sports. Our parks system is extensive, with a new river walk currently under construction.

Our own Eaton Rapids Public School system is progressive and inclusive. We have our own hospital, quite an accomplishment for a small town.

I like to think of Eaton Rapids as being a small town with large city amenities and opportunities.

Take the time to visit, you won’t want to leave. That’s okay, we will find you a spot to “take off your shoes, wiggle your toes in the river, have dinner at one of our restaurants, go to a concert or movie in the park or just sit on a bench and wave as the world speeds by.”
