DALLAS — The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Texas partnered with the Stand Up For Pits Foundation and Duck Team 6 to host a free April 4 spay/neuter event for Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes, a news release said.

The event provided 42 free spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines and microchips for pet owners of Pit Bull and Pit Bull mixes and any other pets in their households. The surgeries were completed at two SPCA of Texas clinics — the Myron K. Martin Spay/Neuter & Wellness Clinic in Dallas and the Mary Spencer Spay/Neuter & Wellness Clinic at Village Fair in Southern Dallas.

The Stand Up For Pits Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit that aims to save lives and end Pit Bulls’ abuse and discrimination through events, funds, education and advocacy. The SPCA of Texas explained that the foundation’s funding of the spay/neuter event provided owners essential medical care and services to promote the safety and wellbeing of their Pit Bull and Pit Bull mix dogs.

“Having pets spayed and neutered is the most important way to prevent pet overpopulation and ensure that animals live happy, healthy lives in loving homes,” SPCA of Texas President/CEO James Bias said in the release. “We’re so proud to work with Duck Team 6 and the Stand Up For Pits Foundation to offer these free surgeries, vaccines and microchips.”

Though the free event is over, the SPCA of Texas offers low-cost spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchipping to pets at three clinic locations and two mobile clinics across Dallas and Collin Counties.
