My Hero ebook By Primary Plus and Secondary students of the British Council in Vietnam
Welcome to My Hero ebook of the British Council in Vietnam Between February and April 2019, we invited our Primary Plus and Secondary students in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to enter a nationwide My Hero writing competition. Three winners in each class won book vouchers, as we look to encourage their reading. The Primary Plus and Secondary level winners also won vouchers, and a very special prize – the chance to be an author and contribute to this My Hero ebook of the British Council in Vietnam. Heroes don’t need to have superpowers or wear capes. As the excellent and diverse range of descriptions in this ebook show, we all have real-life heroes. Our heroes support and help us, teach us, and inspire us in our daily lives. Our Primary Plus and Secondary students each wrote and illustrated a My Hero Profile about their personal heroes. This competition reflected our belief in and support of equality, diversity and inclusion. Students read and wrote about a range of female and male heroes from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds; about heroes from everyday life and from everyday families; and about female and male heroes from history, from science, and from the worlds of art and sport. Our students practised their reading skills as they studied profiles of a number of different real-life heroes. They also studied writing skills such as planning and drafting. As well as helping students to think and write critically and creatively about their interests, the reading and writing skills we studied in this competition can help students in developing their writing in school, and in writing for exams. We hope you enjoy this ebook compilation of the Primary Plus and Secondary level winners from the British Council Teaching Centres at Thuy Khue and at Brendon in Hanoi, and the British Council Teaching Centres at Dien Bien Phu and at Thai Van Lung in Ho Chi Minh City. Read on to find out whether any of your heroes are in My Hero ebook of the British Council in Vietnam. Tony Wildman and Rochelle Hartnell British Council My Hero Project Leads
