courses offer path to reproductive health certification bcit.ca/nspn7720 and bcit.ca/nspn7730 The provincial government recently changed the scope of practice for registered nurses in BC allowing nurses practising in Contraceptive Management (CM) and Sexually Transmitted Infection Management (STIM) to perform clinical functions previously limited to physicians or registered nurses operating under a delegation of medical function or standing/direct order. Nurses new to the reproductive health field are now required to take a College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia-approved course as a prerequisite to certification in each of the practice areas. In response to this change, BCIT partnered with Options for Sexual Health, Canada’s largest sexual health services provider, to develop and deliver CRNBC-approved courses in CM and STIM; becoming the sole provider of CM education and one of only two STIM education providers. > NSPN 7720 – Contraceptive Management > NSPN 7730 – Sexually Transmitted Infections Management For registered nurses without experience in reproductive health, these courses provide a theoretical, practical and necessary foundation of knowledge for certified practice. Both are eligible electives for all Specialty Nursing programs. If you are a nurse new to this practice area and are interested in learning more about these course offerings, please visit our website. n
