Why BCIT HANDS-ON

TEAM-BASED

When you choose BCIT, you’re choosing an education that focuses on real-world experiences. Expect rigorous training that you’ll put directly into practice in our state-of-the-art labs, shops, and classrooms.

As a student in a full-time program, you’ll be part of a cohort—a group of students you’ll learn and work with for the duration of your program. Along the way, you’ll work in teams and hone the collaborative and problemsolving skills that you’ll use throughout your career.

Burnaby Campus The largest BCIT Campus is home to hundreds of specialized learning spaces, including classrooms, shops, labs, simulators, broadcast studios, green roofs, energy grids, forests, and waterways.

Downtown Campus Located at the heart of Vancouver’s business and tech core, the Downtown Campus is home to the state-ofthe-art Technology Education and Collaboration (TEC) Hub, an innovative IT learning space.

Aerospace Technology Campus With over 20 aircraft at the 300,000 square-foot campus in Richmond, BCIT is the largest post-secondary aerospace trainer in Canada.

Pursuing a career in trades at BCIT means you can build the future you imagine. Become a machinist, ironworker, HVAC technician, cabinetmaker, electrician, or choose from more than 20 trades at BCIT. Not sure which one is right for you? Explore and experience the trades through our Trades Discovery programs. You’ll get hands-on experience in a variety of trades so you can choose one you’re passionate about. Choosing BCIT for your trades training means you’ll have access to the best equipment and instructors in the province—from jets, ships, and heavy equipment, to cutting edge automotive, welding, and carpentry shops. Indigenous Services

Indigenous Services exists to build community, connect students, and provide support by offering a range of services such as Peer-to-Peer Mentorship, Traditional Sweat Lodge Ceremonies, and Elders in Residence. The Indigenous Gathering Place serves as a welcoming home away from home by offering cultural and educational activities. Students from across BCIT are invited to participate in ceremonies celebrating the diversity and richness of Indigenous culture. Learn more at bcit.ca/indigenous

The Honouring Our Leaders ceremony celebrates the success of Indigenous students as they graduate or mark a milestone on their educational journey. Elder in Residence, Mary Roberts, teaches cedar basket braiding to students in the Indigenous Gathering Place at the Burnaby Campus. Indigenous Services marked a milestone in 2019—celebrating 25 years of community building at BCIT.

Global Impact

When you join BCIT, you’ll become part of a community of students, faculty, and alumni who are making a difference globally. By using the campus as a living laboratory, you’ll gain hands-on experience with the latest technologies to solve real-world challenges— from protecting fragile ecosystems to helping communities rebuild and recover in the wake of a disaster. The Applied Research department collaborates with national and international institutions, organizations, industry partners, and entrepreneurs to develop innovative solutions to complex problems, and bring them to market.

Students conduct ecological research on the banks of Guichon Creek at the Burnaby Campus. The MAKE+ Product Development group in the Applied Research department prototyped an assisted mobility device for dogs. A Prosthetics and Orthotics faculty member uses 3D printing technology to create cranial remodelling bands for babies.

Register for the course(s) online

Check the application processing periods and deadlines on your chosen program’s web page.

Pay your fees online

Follow the instructions on your chosen program’s web page to complete your application online.

BCIT accepts payment from Canadian banks and credit unions in Canadian funds.

Check your application status

Declare your program

After you have submitted your application, you will receive correspondence from BCIT containing the information you need to check your application status online. All correspondence will come to you via your personal myBCIT account. Please check the myCommunication section of your account on a regular basis.

If you want to put your part-time courses towards a credential, be sure to complete a Part-time Program Declaration form.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

BCIT offers apprenticeship training in more than 20 trades. Our apprenticeship students receive short, scheduled periods of formal training at BCIT, extensive on-the-job training, and paid work experience.

As an international student at BCIT, you’ll be getting a world-class education against the backdrop of a toprated city. Whether you choose to study full-time or part-time, you can earn an internationally recognized credential in a wide variety of programs.

Two ways to become an apprentice Complete a BCIT Trades Foundation program and get hired as an apprentice.

Have an employer hire you as an apprentice from on-the-job experience.

If you need help, we can walk you through the steps to submit your application and inform you of the required documents.

How to become a registered apprentice Your employer must complete an Apprentice Sponsor and Registration form and send it to the Industry Training Authority (ITA). Once the agreement is registered with the ITA, you become a registered apprentice. As an ITA-registered apprentice, you can begin seeking apprenticeship training through BCIT using the following steps:
