Guest Speaker: BCIT Media Club
9.4.1 Mechanical Engineering Student Society Steve Mousseau, 3rd year mechanical engineer student, presents to Council the new Mechanical Engineering Student Society Constitution. He is asking Council for the sanctioning of this new student club. The purpose is to create a link between students and future employers, and to connect students from other engineering program. 9.4.2 BITMAN BITMAN club members presents to council their proposal for establishing a new student club. The purpose of this club is to create partnerships with the industry, fundraise for certification, and fundraise for an international conference. 9.5.
Executive Progress Report
Bill: • Met with VP Student Services and SA president to address the issue surrounding the U-pass • Had his Set & Tech meeting • Will be working on reviewing the set and tech reps roles on campus with Paul Dangerfield, BCIT VP Education Upkar: • Had his Set & Tech meeting • Defining a new program for his school, “adopt a set”. This pilot project will start with 2 classes only and will link an industry leader to a specific set during a school year. • A networking event has been scheduled for March 5 Robby: • Hosting an event for students from his School in the pub on February 5 Tim: • Met with the new Associate Dean • Met with Director of Student Services to address the fitness equipment at ATC • Working to have BCIT merchandize available at the ATC campus Kristina: • School of Health Sciences is conducting a fundraising event for Haiti. Set reps from that respective school have challenged sets from others Schools to do the same • Mingling event with faculty and students went very well • Planning to meet with faculty during their next faculty meeting Mat:

Amanda: • Will be attending the Alumni Meeting this Wednesday • Working with Scott Blythe on the marketing screen that will be presented later and reviewing VP Public Relations & Marketing position Aman: • Working with Christina Batstone, SA Advocate, on a mental health program. They are applying for external funding • Proposing changes to BCIT policies in order to have the advocate and VP Student Affairs represent students 9.6. Councillor Forum • Dillon inquired about the status of the 3rd floor. A meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow. • Scott recommends that student clubs have a faculty member helping them with continuity. • Patrick informed Council about the climbing competition, starting this Monday. • Mark what clarification about the allocation of funds if the referendum is approved. Aman explains that funds will be distributed based on Council decision. 9.7. Question Period • Peter clarified that all clubs are recommended to have a faculty advisor, however it is left to the club to make that decision. • How many students are in the Mechanical Engineering program? 1200 students divided in 4 specializations

9.8.1. Toon In Campaign No update. The SA section is ready to go. We are waiting for BCIT for an answer on their involvement level. The event is scheduled for April 2010. 9.9

Scott Blythe, SA Marketing & Communications Manager, is looking for student feedback on what is Council’s wishes as it relates to establishing a marketing screen to guide staff members. Motion: Be it resolved that Student Council strike an ad hoc committee to develop a corporate screen for the Association.
