Job Details Peer tutors are required from various BCIT disciplines, both Trades and Technology programs, to provide academic and study skills tutoring for BCIT students. We are looking particularly to find: • Business tutors, with strength in accounting, statistics, math and economics • Tutors from the following program areas: CST, ECET, CIVL, MECH, ABET, CHSC, GEOM, TTED, ROBT, BMET, NURS, OHCS. If you welcome and enjoy opportunities to help others learn, then peer tutoring could be a very rewarding experience for you. Responsibilities include the following: 1. Tutoring 2 to 6 hours per week according to a set shift in the Learning Commons in the BCIT Library. Opportunities are also available to help lead Success Seminars where tutors share their study skill tips with BCIT students. 2. Being available 1-2 hours per week to provide one-to-one tutoring through the Student Association Uconnect office. This is an excellent chance to work on campus, gain job experience, and help other students. Training will be provided. Job requirements are: • strong academic standing • excellent communication and interpersonal skills • initiative and ability to work independently • enrolment in a minimum of 60% full course load [1 credit per week of study with a minimum of 12 weeks of study is considered 60% of a full course load] • legally entitled to work in Canada. • preference will be given to students who have completed at least one academic year at BCIT To receive an application package and further details, respond with a resume and short email to Learning Commons Coordinator, Jeff Verbeem, at LearningCommons@bcit.ca.
