Kevin Wainwright mentioned the following: The BCIT Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree provides students the opportunity to enhance the skills developed in their diploma programs. By earning a BBA, graduates are better prepared for career advancement. The BCIT Model: fast, flexible and effective The BBA program then gives students the flexibility to complete degree full-time within 8 to 12 months (depending on previous transfer credits from other institutes), or to choose to begin the career and finish the degree part-time, usually within two to three years. The deadline for BBA application, Full-time option is Thursday, March 31st, 2011. For any additional information, please contact Christina Bell, BBA, and Program Administrator of School of Business at christina_bell@bcit.ca or 604-412-7486. Questions: Is it true that GPA is calculated only on the 4-th semester? No, 4-5 basic courses should be taken into consideration for GPA calculation. Can we apply if our GPA is less than 72 percent? If your GPA is 72 percent, you have better chance to be selected for a program. However, you can still apply; even if your GPA is lower, for the reason that in most cases it is not the final GPA. The most important will be to keep the deadline for applying.
Some of the Set Rep explained that 54 credits per year will make them to take more academic courses, it is a lot of work; moreover, the program doesn’t have elective schedule. The students will have to take 8 business courses. The guest speaker underlined the benefits of the BCIT BBA (part time and full time opportunities, possibility of arranging experience in UBC classes, chance to have education progress while the students are already in the market.)
2.3 Chair announcements CTRL P On-Campus Print Shop The BCIT Student Association’s Ctrl P Printing services are an exceptional way to receive students print requirements. The Ctrl P provides colour and B/W printing, colour and B/W copying, wide-format plotting, binding, faxing and other additional services (scanning, lamination, office supplies). Why Ctrl P services are not being used so much? The Set Rep expressed the following reasons: Location (may be it is better to relocate it to the library) Students’ unawareness (students don’t know about its existence, services: colour printing, different type and size of paper) Ctrl P should be better advertised (emails to the Set Rep, orientation days) What about working hours? Are you satisfied? The Set Rep found the working hours fine for themselves. They shared that sometimes it is too busy in the morning. Student Initiative Fund The Student Initiative fund is a program which allows BCIT students to apply for financial assistance to take part in extracurricular activities related to their career. Common application includes management and leadership training, professional development, and skill development workshops.The deadline for the next SIF is April 15, 2011. The application form can be found online at http://www.bcitsa.ca/. Click on “investing in students” then click on “donations, awards and bursaries” or in Uconnect Resource Center from Monday – Friday form 8am - 4pm, Location SE2 – 286. Questions: Should I bring the receipt first? The first step will be to apply for the Student Initiative Fund. In case you are approved for the SIF, you will be contacted by the BCITSA Uconnect resource center. BCITSA will reimburse the money for the amount which was approved by the SIF Committee.
BCITSA Student Elections
The chair of the School of Business, Alisa Dalhuisen explained that the voting for elections begins on Friday, April 8th, 2011, from 9:00 am and ends on April 15th, 2011 at 12:00pm. 2.4 Set Rep Forum The FMA club offers FREE tax return services to ALL BCIT students. Register for the service on the FMA website - www.bcitfma.com or come to the booth outside SE6 233 on Wednesdays, from 1:30pm till 4:00pm. 2.5 Adjournment The Chairperson, Alisa Dalhuisen, adjourned meeting at 3:30pm.
