Main objective
ƒ
Learn about the language levels of qualified teachers of English currently working in the public system, to better focus present and future training plans offered to these clients.

Phases of the process The language certification process includes two phases: ƒ The application, at national level, of a placement test to 5,000 teachers of English currently working for public schools (the test was awarded to Cambridge ESOL through a public tender). ƒ The application, at national level, of an international certification exam to all the teachers who obtain level B2 (CEFR) or higher in the previous phase (in bidding process).
Characteristics of the Cambridge Placement Test
Designed by Cambridge ESOL.
It lasts for 30 minutes, and includes listening and reading comprehension, plus use of English.

It adapts to the candidate’s level.
It provides results in the whole CEFR range (A1 to C2).
Application requirements
Qualified teacher of English accredited with university diploma
Teaching English at a public school.
Filling-out of online registration form.
Attendance to testing sessions programmed by the English Opens Doors Program (EODP).

Registration started on July 12th, 2012.
To date, 2.045 teachers have registered.
Of those, 408 teachers have taken the test in 8 cities (Iquique,
Viña
del
Mar,
Santiago,
Talca,
Concepción,
Temuco, Valdivia and Puerto Montt).
The 28th and 29th of September, 350 additional teachers will be evaluated in four locations of the Metropolitan Area, and in Antofagasta.

Testing sessions will be held until the final target is reached.

Results ƒ
The English Opens Doors Program (EODP) will inform each teacher about the level obtained in the Cambridge Placement test, and individual results will be kept confidential.
ƒ
Teachers who obtain a level B2 of higher will be invited to take an international certification exam during the 1st semester of 2013.
