International Foundation Year
The University of Sussex International Study Centre is based on campus and offers programmes to prepare international students for a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
International Foundation Year The International Foundation Year (IFY) is a tailor-made three-term programme of academic subjects, study skills and English language training that provides a direct path to undergraduate degree study. The IFY is designed for students outside the EU who have completed high school but who do not meet all the University’s entry requirements for degree-level study. There are six subject routes. Satisfactory completion of each route leads to a wide variety of degrees, some of which are listed below: • Business, Management and Economics Leading to degrees in: Business; Business and Mangement Studies; Economics; and Finance and Business • Computing and Mathematics Leading to degrees in: Computer Science; Computing Science and Artificial Intelligence; Games and Multimedia Environments; Mathematics; and Multimedia and Digital Systems
The International Study Centre (ISC) delivers the International Foundation Year, International Year One Diploma and Pre-Masters Programme. By studying at the ISC, you will benefit from: Access to University facilities You will be part of the University from the day you start your programme and will have access to a range of University facilities as well as at the International Study Centre. Experience university-style teaching Our programmes provide a highly supportive learning environment, introducing you to the style of teaching that you will experience when you progress onto your degree. You will experience tutorials, seminars and larger group lectures. Behzad’s perspective
‘This is the first time that I had been in England. I had no idea about the country, people and culture. I felt that it would be inconvenient in a strange environment, where everything is new and I didn’t know how to deal with things. But when I came to Sussex, not only were all of my anticipations wrong, but also after a while I realised Sussex offers a situation in which you can feel confident and have the chance to begin an independent life. Here, everything is up to you. ‘The University has a really nice campus where you can find all the requirements of your life. There are different shops and restaurants on campus and you can find many hobbies on offer every day. Apart from the lovely campus, Brighton is just a couple minutes away from university, and with all that you can find in Brighton, it’s really hard to get bored here!’

International Year One Diploma
International Year One Diploma The International Year One Diploma is an advanced, one-year programme of study equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree. Successful completion guarantees direct entry to the second year of the following degrees at the University of Sussex: • Accounting and Finance • Business and Management Studies • Business with Human Resource Management • International Business • Marketing and Management
Why study business and management at the University of Sussex? • You will benefit from an interdisciplinary approach to study within an area that is a strong priority for the University and will continue to expand during your time here. • The University has invested £30 million in a new building for the School of Business, Management and Economics. • Management studies at Sussex scored 82 per cent overall in the 2010 National Student Survey (NSS), which is a reflection of the expertise and dedication of our tutors, the breadth and depth of our degree programmes and the support that the University has to offer. • Business and management studies at Sussex is ranked in the top 25 in the UK in The Times Good University Guide 2011 and The Complete University Guide 2010-11. • SPRU – Science and Technology Policy Research (the University’s internationally recognised research centre specialising in the management of science, technology and innovation) forms part of the School and contributes to teaching business and management students. SPRU research was highly rated in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). On average, 80 per cent of the research was rated as internationally recognised or higher, and half rated as internationally excellent or higher.

‘I decided to study at the Sussex ISC for a number of reasons, from the reputation of teaching excellence, to the UK’s cosmopolitan background, which allows me to meet people from different countries and cultures and network to gain invaluable contacts for the future. The fact that the UK is a global leader in innovative technology and other sciences enables me to gain up-to-date knowledge and skills in my field. Having a small number of students in our classroom permits productive interaction with professors and teachers. Operations and Management classes are particularly interesting, as I get to grips with the theory behind the practices I have used in my previous work place.’
