Leicester is the tenth largest city in Britain with a population of approximately 300,000. Just over an hour from London by train and situated in the heart of the UK, Leicester is a city that has transformed beyond recognition in the last 10 years. A fantastic place to eat, drink, watch and play, the city is also a nationwide example of multiculturalism and tolerance, and a vibrant place to study.

Leicester boasts a range of high street stores and designer boutiques in the Highcross shopping centre, alongside a flagship John Lewis store, but this is not at the expense of locally run businesses. Leicester’s ‘Lanes’ are a treasure trove of independent shops and salons.

Eating Explore the world from your plate, with cuisines from across the world. Leicester is deservedly famous for its Indian food, being crowned the British Curry Capital. The restaurant quarter in Highcross has big names like Yo! Sushi, Nandos and the Handmade Burger Company, alongside local success stories like Mem Saab. Further afield you can find some of the best and most reasonably priced restaurants in the country.

Living costs The cost of living is a lot lower in Leicester than other major UK cities. Students in Leicester find that their budgets stretch a lot further than those of their friends who study in cities such as London, with notable savings to be made on accommodation, transport and entertainment, for instance. STUDENT SUPPORT

International Student Support DMU has a dedicated international support team whose job it is to help our international students settle into and make the most of DMU life. They provide specialist support and guidance on issues such as immigration, employment, welfare and careers. The team also organises social events and activities, supports international societies and arranges trips to tourist sites such as Oxford, Windsor Castle, Blenheim Palace and Liverpool. Airport pick-ups The International Student Support team run a number of free transfers from Heathrow Airport to DMU at busy times of the year.

International Welcome Week International Welcome Week is designed to help you to get to know the city, meet other

students and settle in before the start of your studies. All activities are free of charge and include social events, information sessions, city tours, campus tours and sightseeing trips. International Welcome Week takes place in mid-September, in the week before enrolment.
