Joe’s History
On Sept. 22 1898 Joe Fickey was born in Kurten, TX where he worked on his ranch farming cotton, raising animals and making moonshine. On Oct. 5, 1940 he opened Joe’s Place, a general store on one side and a bar on the other. He worked there up until 1962 when his son and daughter-in-law, Sonny and Corrine took over the business. They ran Joe’s until 1984 when Sonny passed away which left Corrine and her children to run things. As time went on the widening of HWY 21 forced them to tear down the original building and in 2003 Joe’s Place relocated to its current facility. In 2009 Joe’s grandson Jerry Fickey and his wife Marilyn came on board to help run the place. In August of 2011 Joe’s great-grandson Jason Seymour, took over Joe’s Place and is currently helping to continue this great family tradition.
