Design Concept: Bauhaus Movement The Bauhaus design period has strong distinguishing design features that are used as the framework of design decisions within both the architectural and the interior elements of the intergenerational center. Geometric shapes, utilized in the floor plan, help reinforce the ideas of repetition and pattern, while also creating a highly efficient, functional, and modern space. It also focuses on the use of natural elements that benefit the health, safety, and quality of life for the residents and students, along with the staff, of both centers.

Color Palette A color palette, inspired by Bauhaus Design emphasis on color study and contrast, will be tailored to each user group. Colors with high contrast are used in the Assisted Living Facility (ALF) in order to distinguish clear boundaries between objects and spaces. Colors that are less intense are used in the Center for Assessment and Treatment (CAAT) in order to prevent hyper-sensitivity to the classrooms and playrooms.

Signage Taking inspiration from the iconic furniture pieces of the Bauhaus Design period allows for bold, striking design that does not distract from the focus of the space it is in.
