THEATRE

Thu 19 and Fri 20 Jan, 1pm and 7pm, £6.50/£3.50 conc REACH for Autism

Welcome to 2017 As we enter the New Year, I’m delighted to share with you the Beacon’s new season featuring return visits from Glasgow Girls and the national treasure that is Eddi Reader through to Dead Sheep Comedy Club with its mix of well-known and emerging names. We also introduce new companies like Red Bridge Arts with the family favourite, Black Beauty, which has already racked up 5 star reviews. This year we will focus on what we do as a charity; did you know The Beacon is a registered charity? In November 2016, we launched a Beacon Patron Scheme, headed up by renowned Greenock artists Alec Galloway and Louise Wylie. It’s got off to a flying start and with a minimum donation of £10 per month, there are plenty of special benefits to keep you entertained while you support the work we do with young people and communities across Inverclyde. Details are on our website.

This year will also be a year of new things. One of our new patrons is Dan Temianka whose father, Henri, was born in Greenock in 1906 and moved to America where he became a world-famous violinist. The Beacon will display a bronze bust of Henri while the McLean Museum is closed for refurbishment. It’s an amazing story that we can’t wait to share with you. There’s so much to take part in this season, and don’t forget you can enjoy a light lunch in our bar and kitchen or just take some time out for a refreshment. With free wi-fi, it’s the perfect spot for a bit of work or to while away the day. The Beacon is your place and we look forward to seeing you!

Jackie Shearer Chief Executive

In our World: A day on the Spectrum How much do you know about autism? This sketch, created by the youth of REACH for Change, explores the effects and challenges of living with autism in a funny and moving way. Exploring themes of bullying, criminal justice, employment, sleep and sensory issues, it comes from the heart of six brave young people who want to make a difference to others living with autism.
