Who will win the Volunteer of the Year award? Come see.

n past years, the BEACON has recognized a number of volunteers age 50 and older at BeaconFest, with one of those volunteers being presented with the BEACON’s Volunteer of the Year award.

So what does it mean to be Volunteer of the Year?

The Volunteer of the Year goes above and beyond his or her normal responsibilities in order to make a difference in the lives of others.

Last year, BEACON readers chose Dave Rosen as Volunteer of the Year. As of last year, Rosen had volunteered with Colorado Discover Ability as a ski instructor and rafting guide for 25 years.

“Dave Rosen is a phenomenal individual who wastes no time in figuring out how to tailor a ski lesson for an individual with disabilities,” Lynne Klish wrote on her nomination form.

“His motto of ‘There’s more than one right way to do anything’ is evident throughout his teaching. He puts himself in their shoes… all to better understand their perspective. Dave has a gift of teaching, is thoughtful, patient and has a fantastic attitude that can be applied to all areas of life.”

Now that is a terrific volunteer!

Volunteers are key components for many local organizations. They donate their precious time and skills to improve their community or help with a cause they care about.

The BEACON is pleased to give local organizations the opportunity to honor their outstanding volunteers at BeaconFest each year. All honored volunteers will be called to the BeaconFest stage for a brief awards ceremony at 12:50 p.m. All nominees will be presented with awards.

The Volunteer of the Year will be announced and featured in May’s BEACON. To vote for your favorite volunteer, visit www.BeaconSeniorNews.com.

osewood & Ivory is a duo featuring clarinet artist Mick Wilson and keyboardist Connie Smith. They have been playing together since 2006 and recently recorded their first album, “Jazzin’ Around.” The duo boasts a large, jazz-based repertoire that also includes folk music from around the world, light classical, Celtic and oldtime American music.

They perform regularly across the Western Slope for parties and special events. This is their second BeaconFest.

Once a warm-up artist for Billy Graham, Agajanian has toured with many performers and has played in many diverse venues all over the U.S. and Canada.

He has played at many churches, Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, the Las Vegas Golden Nugget, the Grand Ole Opry and in Branson, Missouri. He has lived in Grand Junction for over 20 years. This is his third BeaconFest.
