LOOK WHO’S TOURQUING Jason Bartsch Welcome to a brand new year of Rex Driver. We have a very exciting year in store for all our members. Last year wrapped up in fantastic WRXSA style with our Christmas breakup family BBQ. It was great to see so many members come out and enjoy the day with their families. It's what our club values and it was really good to see. The club championship was tallied up and presented. It was tightly contested throughout the year and came down to the results of the final race. Congratulations to all the winners. Moving forward we have locked in all the events that will make up this years club championship. Some iconic races that have been staples in recent years remain, plus some new events hosted by different clubs. Once again we will bring you the WRXSA club day out at Collingrove Hillclimb.
This will be our 3rd year running and hopefully our best one yet. It is a fantastic opportunity for members to come out at see what motorsport is all about. Also in the planning department is a club tour to Philip Island for 2017 Subienats. As well as a club tour down to Mount Gambier for the annual Legend of the Lakes hillclimb. For all those members not into motorsport we have plenty on offer also. With monthly cruises and social events scattered throughout the year. Our membership numbers grow every week and our committee is constantly working hard to make the club better and more enjoyable. It really is a great time to be a part of WRXSA. Here's to a new and exciting year. Cheers. Jason Bartsch
I hope you have all been resting well over the summer break because 2017 is already ramping up to a massive year for WRXSA! As I write this the first round of the S&J Club Championship is about to kick off at Collingrove and if that weren’t enough the day before that the club has been invited to provide a selection of cars to be show cased at the Slow Life WRX vs. EVO Racing Rivalry meet! So whether you like going Flat Out or Chilling Out you are all set. Not only that but the Club Committee is hard at work brainstorming and putting together events to keep the momentum going all year long! The future is exciting but lets take a look back over the Summer and everything we have packed into this edition of Rex Driver. First up we have a couple of great member profiles from Brayden and Daniel who have both been discovering the joy that can be found by taking your car out to a track day.
Editorial
We also look back at the Victoria Park Sprint and Willunga Hillclimb that closed out the 2016 SA motorsport season and ultimately decided the 2016 S&J Club Champion. This edition we have stacks of social coverage with the WRXSA Christmas BBQ, Boxing Day Cruise, S&J Tech Night and All Japan Day; which celebrated its 10th year, a truly amazing achievement! Rounding everything out we have an update on ‘The Bend’ and the kick off of the American Rally Championship. Anyway I need to put the magazine to bed so I can go and prepare the STI for this weekends Slow Life Meet and Collingrove Hillclimb, its going to be hectic! Catch you later! Seth Coultas

Brayden Paparella Bown A bit about myself; since day one I have always been a car enthusiast, I can thank my father for that due to the fact it’s his fault. When I was younger we used to travel to different car shows around Australia to see the best cars on offer. I’m currently 19 years of age and have started my career in automotive. This is by far the best decision I have done, due to going to work every day and learning new things is the best thing I could ask for.
My Subaru passion started with my first car which was a 1997 Subaru Impreza GX, which was the best car to learning how to drive. For a non turbo the car was pretty much standard except for the wheels and suspension. I then sold that car and moved onto my current Subi. My current Subaru is a MY00 WRX, which is my pride and joy and has never missed a beat. The vehicle is running a VF34 turbo with 3inch MRT stainless Exhaust system, Process West intercooler, APS Cold Air, AVO Silicone inlet which is producing 242kw atw. I love taking my car to car meets and cruises when I get the chance and the occasional motorsport event. My first event was a come and try day at Mallala, which was the first time I had ever driven on a race track. That day was such a blast it started the urge to do more. I then looked at different events the SA car scene had to offer, which is how I stumbled across WRXSA. I didn’t really know much about the club then but wanted to know more. I then looked at the website and thought it would be a good idea to join a club with fellow Subaru enthusiast. The first event was at Collingrove, which was very different to what I thought it would be with the narrow track and the tight turns. I turned the key and lined up to race up the hill. I will say it wasn’t the fastest time in the world but it did put the biggest smile on my face. Its events like this that creates good friendships with other enthusiast and WRXSA is one that ticks all those boxes. I’m really looking forward to next season, to watch and compete in club events. 2017 should be a good years and can’t wait to be a part of it.

First of all, thank you for letting me to introduce myself here. I probably haven’t talked to many of you yet, as I’m a bit shy sometimes, lol. But I do enjoy being part of the club and surrounded by Subaru enthusiasts like you guys, I look forward to build more friendship with everyone here. Thanks to the crappy public transport in Adelaide, I got good excuse to ask my parents to fund my driver license and buy my first car when I started studying here as an oversea student back in 2001. I come from Hong Kong and I’m a SQL Database Administrator. When I was a teenager, the huge rear wing and the unique rumble exhaust note attracted me, so I decided I must own a WRX/ STi some time in my life. Due to other commitments I didn’t get chance to buy myself a sport car until 2014, I bought a 05 WRX which has already been modified with 193kw atw, other handling mods and full STi body kits. Its performance and aggressive look fulfilled all my desires at that stage. Daniel’s WRX: AEM CAI TBE + Remus muffler Grimmspeed 3 port solenoid DW300C fuel pump ECU open source tuned by Matt McLeod DBA T2 discs + StopTech Sport Brake Pads Cusco brake booster Whiteline adjustable front & rear sway bars BBS forged wheels from 15 STi Premium (for street) BBS forged wheels come with Spec-R (for track)
Driving on the hills is one of my favorite activities since I got my license, and I didn’t think motorsport would be my cup of tea. But I found that I was wrong after a track day at Mallala with my mates in April 2016. I actually enjoy to drive the car to my limit in a safe environment and got motivated to improve my skills to achieve better lap time. A couple of months later I sold my WRX and bought a 08 STi Spec-R which I believe would be a better platform for long run in motorsport. I haven’t done any major upgrades to it yet, as I would like keep the car eligible in the street/ standard class in the competitions for now, so I can build up my confidence and driving skills gradually. The plan seems to work well, within half year of owning the STi, I attended 3 competitions with it and I’m quite happy with the results. As a new starter in motorsport, the results in SA Time Attack and Willunga Hillclimb were exceeded my expectation. I have to shout out to my buddy Brian Mau who owns Adelaide 4x4 Wrecker, he helped me with all mechanical works, maintaining my car at the best shape and provided supports in the competitions. Without him I wouldn’t have gone that far. I look forward to the competitions in 2017, and I wish all you have a fun year ahead. For me, when I am racing I am completely engulfed by the experience at hand; the roar of the engine, the next corner rushing towards me at a stupidly fast speed; the pull of the g-forces as the brakes bite and the tyres pull you around the apex. It is all consuming, my mind is 100% completely focused on the moment at hand and the track ahead. When I was given the opportunity to return to the Victoria Park Sprint I jumped at it because it is an amazing event with thousands of people in attendance. It is an opportunity to show more people than I will ever meet what I can do, what I have achieved by committing to this sport I love! When I first bought my STI some 8-9 years ago I had no idea that one day I would be in this situation; in front of all these people; racing at an event that includes classic F1 cars and million dollar super cars!
But just like in racing you improve by learning from your mistakes. Keep doing what works for you and stop doing what doesn’t. The Victoria Park Sprint was a massive hit, even when it was only a single day with very limited track time. So last year it became a 2 day event that was combined with the Classic Adelaide Rally to create a celebration of motorsport that went for 4 action packed days that included street parties and driving F1 cars through the CBD during peak hour! The public loved it, with people bringing some of the rarest cars on the planet from overseas to be a part of it.
That success enticed even more people and cars to come this year including my parents that live interstate. It was really special for me to finally be able to show them that this sport wasn’t ‘just’ about going fast. It is about spending time with friends that I admire and respect; soaking up the atmosphere of a crowded pit lane; and the Such a thought would have been completely comradery that pulls people together when fanciful, the closest experience would have something does go wrong. been going to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England; and that would never That being said, once I am behind the wheel happen, right? But you know what? A and pull out onto the track; the crowd, the dedicated group of people decided, why thought that my parents are watching from not? We can do something like that in the stands, and the awe / fear that comes Adelaide, South Australia has a racing from being part of such a huge, iconic event, history dates back to the 1939 Australia disappears. The Adelaide Motorsport Festival is hands down the best experience I’ve had with my Subaru.
Taking the grid the first year with legendary Flag Waver Gen Dix was an opportunity we won’t get forever but treasured that moment for myself. The dates for the 2017 Adelaide Motorsport Festival have been announced for the 7th to the 10th of December. Unfortunately this clashes with the Willunga Hillclimb. However, due to the popularity of both events, there is a possibility that something can be arranged to allow both these events, plus the Classic Adelaide Rally, to take place. Making this possibly one of the best motorsport competition weekends in SA! Dan Day had some issues with heat on the day but still achieved a time of 49.81, third fastest in the class.

David Higgins and Travis Pastrana made history by claiming a 1-2 finish at Rallye Perce-Neige, the first round of the newly formed ARA (American Rally Association) National Championship. The 143 mile stage rally event held in Maniwaki, Quebec, hosted over 40 international competitors on snow -covered gravel roads in a grueling single-day race format.
Subaru Rally Team Canada driver Antoine L’Estage, a seven-time winner of Rallye PerceNeige, built an early lead over the first three stages of the rally, until mechanical issues hindered his pace. Higgins and Pastrana, who closely trailed L’Estage during the first loop of stages, battled for the lead throughout the remainder of the rally. Higgins would go on to win the event over teammate Pastrana putting the #75 Subaru WRX STI rally car on top of the podium. “A great result, it feels good to win in such harsh conditions against some top guys, and this was the first ever ARA event, so I’m glad we were able to get our names in the history books,” explained David Higgins at the podium celebration. “The last loop of stages was hard work, the snow was coming down pretty hard on one stage, there was a big snow ball inside the corner, we clipped it and smashed one of the lights, making the night stage even tougher. The hood pin was also damaged, so we had to slow down a bit to keep the hood from flying open on stage. It was a challenge but it was all good in the end!” “Man, heck of a day! The snow during the final night stages came down hard. It was like a video game, you’re in a trance going 120 mph,’ said Travis Pastrana at the finish. “You don’t see anything on the road. All you see are trees coming at you really fast. We gambled with tire choice this weekend which didn’t go in our favour, but we’re happy to be on the podium and get valuable championship points.” “The extreme temperatures and single day format tested drivers and crew alike this weekend,” stated Subaru Motorsports Marketing Manager Rob Weir. “We’re proud of the hard work SRTUSA put in this weekend to help Subaru claim their first ARA Championship victory.” Subaru of America
All Japan Day By Megan Jane February 26th 2017 was the 10th annual All Japan Day at Wigley Reserve, Glenelg and it was a record turn out! A few days prior, organisers had announced that they were at capacity which was a fantastic result for our local Japanese car enthusiast community and more importantly, Novita Children’s Services. Each year, proceeds of the show are donated to a charity and what a fantastic reason for all of us to shine our cars up and display them for the day. It also gives our community the chance to show off our hard work and set positive examples to combat a sometimes tarnished image. For those of you who haven’t been down to this huge spectacle before, if you have a passion for Japanese cars, there is almost too much to take in! So much so, that organisers often get complaints about packing too many cars in. But this venue is kindly sacrificed every year by the Council and it is free entry for spectators. Furthermore, it is an ongoing joke that it costs more money to park at Glenelg than to enter All Japan Day and park on the oval, which will set you back a minor fifteen dollars! As the sun rose on Sunday morning, many entrants were already lined up and ready to park. The dewy, green oval was about to be lined with over five hundred cars. The forecast 29 degrees was a pleasant change to the sometimes 33-35 degree day we’ve had to withstand in the past. Temperature aside, JDM car enthusiasts are most likely decided on where their Sunday will be spent whether they had entered their car or not. Once a year we plan ahead for this day; a humble, no frills car show that displays some of the most beautiful Japanese cars in South Australia. Modifications are planned months in advance, pressures rise to ensure your car is a little different from last year and niche detailers have one of their busiest weeks of the year.
WRXSA members had organised a pre-meet for members which is a pretty standard tradition for friendship groups headed to the event. There’s always hope that you will be directed to park next to each other on the grounds so you have the opportunity to represent your type of make or model throughout the day. It is also ample opportunity for the public to get photos which will almost always spread across social media. It was fantastic to see a variation of Subaru’s at the event and there were some small bunches who managed to get a park together. All Japan Day brings in all types of Japanese goodness from brand new cars from the MY16 STI and Evo X to R34 GT-R and 180SX track cars as well as cars that have been around for forty odd years like the Hakosuka. It is a true snapshot of JDM heritage and growth as spectators get to see everyone’s unique interpretation and influences of a culture we know and love. Furthermore, the committee has brought us some incredible feature cars over the years such as the Lexus LF-A and Toyota 2000GT. The minimal entry fee for entrants makes it appealing to all budgets and it’s an opportunity for everyone to show off their pride and joy. The S&J Automotive “SJ1000” was up bright and early, it’s roar echoing across the green and it attracted so many views during the day with spectators walking laps around the track-spec beast. The All Japan Day committee had placed it in the centre display with the likes of other track cars such as Andy Sarandis’ Clipsalbound Evo 8 and Andrew Campbell’s epic S14. The event is also a great opportunity for businesses and clubs to subtly display their work or member rides while organisers still maintain a down to earth atmosphere with no vendor stalls, promo girls or roped-off displays. As the day drew to a close, spectators lined the street ready to watch the variety of cars make their way home. At this stage most entrants are about ready to run home having been out in the sun for the entire day, but the wait to drive out is a long one. Most would agree it is tradition to watch each car drive off from the edge of the road as you get to see them in action. Although the police cordon is a deterrent from any crazy behaviour! This process lasts for a few hours while the committee work to keep the situation under control, directing traffic and helping lowered cars onto the road. Overall it was an extremely impressive day. The weather was perfection, the enthusiasts were out in force and the organisers had pulled off a very smooth running day. If you haven’t been before, be sure to check it out next year or better yet, enter your car!
I feel it would be impossible to understate how excited I am for the new Bend Motorsport Park at Tailem Bend! Racing around the 7.7km long GT Circuit is a dream on par with tackling the NĂźrburgring; it will take years to master and that is what will keep me coming back! Combined with 3 additional circuit layouts; a stadium circuit for Rallycross & OzGymkhana (fingers crossed!), go kart track and even Rally facilities; there will be no end to the challenges and opportunities this facility could bring! The new $20 million permanent pit building and hotel complex.
The forecast for completing the main circuit is still the end of 2017, so there is a very real chance that this time next year my dream will be becoming a reality. In the meantime keep an eye out for more opportunities to try out the simulation that was on display at the Clipsal 500; our Club Champion Damien Hirst was there to give it a go and thought it was an enjoyable flowing track. Keep an eye on Facebook for more updates as they happen. Seth Coultas
WRXSA Christmas BBQ By Zoe Rule
Sunday the 18th of December saw WRXSA take over the Wilden family riverfront home at Murray Bridge. It was a sunny day and the kids (and the big kids!) made the most of it with water balloon and water pistol fights. Ben kept the bigger kids entertained with a couple golf clubs and a big bag of golf balls, of course competing with each other on how far balls were hit!
A casual BBQ lunch was supplied/cooked by one of our many sponsors Eblens Subaru. Santa arrived after lunch in true subie style, his sled of choice for this years trip a MY2016 red WRX with some goodies for all the kids. It was such a delight to see all the families and kids laughing and all having fun, once again proving that this club has such a great social side as well as racing side. A big thanks to Eblen Subaru, the Wilden family, WRXSA committee members for all their hardwork. Zoe Rule Club Champion for 2017 Damien Hirst
S&J TECH NIGHT By Zoe Rule
WRXSA’s first tech night certainly set the benchmark for the rest of year, we had an awesome turnout of approximately 50 people after extending the invitation to well known South Australian car group SSSA. This has already resulted in us securing a few more members to our ever growing community of Subaru enthusiasts.
Martin Donnon from Willall then took the mic to tell us all about the WREJBB. It’s the Heart of gold that has got the Subaru racing community in a buzz. Moving forward from their success in developing and manufacturing billet blocks for R35 GTRs. Willall now offer a billet block for the power hungry Subaru owner. Capable of 1000 crank HP. It was fascinating to learn about how much work goes into creating these things.
Sean’s beautiful 22B took centre stage upon entry into the workshop, but with a glance to the left in the what once was Dan’s V8 room was the SJ1000 beast More good news for Subaru owners was shared, for us all to take a walk around and see into the heart Willall are now an authorised Ecutek tuner, along with their existing Cobb and open source tunes. of the beast. Sean started off the evening by introducing us to the team which just recently gained one new member, that new member happens to be myself and I could not be more excited to share this news with you all. I am very humbled and feel incredibly lucky to be a part of such a dynamic and wonderful team!
Brad Day then wowed us with the SJ1000 promo video that we all loved and were able to see some behind the scenes action not seen by the public.

Congratulations and Thank you to all members who participated in one or more rounds of the CC. It's your entries that make our CC so successful. We had a total of 57 different club members enter an event. That's a huge effort for a club with just 120+ members.
It's also with excitement I announce that they have offered their support once again for the 2017 Club Championship. Bring on next Season. Tania Langcake WRXSA Club President Jason Bartsch with the 2016 S&J WRXSA Club Champion Damien Hirst

Also an enormous thank you to our long-time Club Championship sponsor and supporter S&J Automotive, who donate the fantastic prizes on offer for our winners.
I had intended to run in the S&J Automotive Club Championship for 2016 but little did I know how hard it was to become for a Grand Champion win! It was going to be a challenge to myself to better my already good personal best times over various different events. Only minor adjustments made to the STI and just going in with more confidence and experience to keep chipping away at times.
Round 3 was Collingrove Hill Climb, where I can usually push good runs out from knowing the track well. Although achieving a 33.8 I still lost out to the newcomers, fifth position in Round 3 earnt some respectable points. Round 4, Round 5 and Round 6 didn’t accrue me many points with John Schafer looking to lead the Club Championship.
Round 7 Collingrove I had to miss, and lost out on some more points and John Schafer I had to miss the Round One Sprint at Mallala as I was was certainly in the lead! Aiming to enter the Round concentrating on Round Two Hill Climb. So starting 8 Motorkhana but was unfortunately cancelled due the year with Mt Alma Mile Hill Climb, I already had to the loss of using BIGW distribution yard. This took the car well sorted for this event and was going to away the three disciplines need for Grand give me chance to get a good start on the Club Championship and made it anybody’s prize with only Championship. With brand new tyres and new having to complete a Hill climb and Sprint to be suspension settings, new brakes, even little eligible. improvements like change of Gearbox & Diff oil brands were the key to setting a new Personal Best of So onto round 9, WRXSA’s biggest event for the year, 45.2secs. The V5 STI with only mild modifications was Eblens Reynella Subaru Hill Climb Challenge! With so many entrants, it’s a must to do well for maximum up there with the big guns. Unfortunately for the points! With the same setup as I had Mt Alma, I set event itself, I apparently hit the cones on two runs myself a new Personal Best of 33.5, taking the overall sending me down the Top20. But with a Personal Best and second fastest Outright, it was a great start win and back on top of the leader board even with for the year and one of my best performed events for Matt Knighton and Jacob Richards gaining after 9 Rounds. years.
Round 10, SA Time Attack Twilight I knew would be a challenge. Event rules restricted tyres to full thread road rubber. New Hankook RS3’s were sourced from SA Motorsport Tyres just for this sprint. I really should have taken to practice during the day to get familiar with the green tyres as I haven’t run a street tyre for years. Tyre temperature was my biggest issue with dramatic increases over Rspecs. Best I could manage was a 1min18 while still very impressive on a street tyre it was a second off what I was expecting. Overall points were awarded keeping me on the leader board still. Legend of the Lakes was an additional new round in the Club Championship due to loss of other hill climbs. It’s a long trip down to beautiful Mt Gambier but I planned ahead and made a good week holiday out of it.
Without a car and stuck home with a broken leg, I wasn’t cleared to drive any car. Jacob Richards, so close behind me, was all set to take the Crown. BUT as motorsport has it, Jacob also failed to finish at the Willunga Hill Climb! Without Jacob scoring, I managed to keep the leader board just points ahead of Matt Knighton to take the Grand Championship for 2016! Talk about tense, nail biting down to the wire racing! The S&J Automotive Club Championship has it all! This is my second Grand Champion win with the first one back in 2010 and runner up nearly every other year. The STI V5 will have to be repaired in time but won’t see local club racing again, only special events as I put it to retirement.
Just now I have purchased a near new 2015 STI and looking to cruise this daily while I bring it out for the odd Collingrove as the Hill Climb is a good place to My first time for Legend of the Lakes. Bumpy and can test and develop. We won’t see the new STI at any catch you out. Unfortunately, a brake issue for me major events for some time while we enjoy it as a prevented late braking! Caught me out a few corners family car for now. and lucky enough to had some run off. Worked out I missed a big mistake of coming off Time Attack and Many thanks to the many club members for not flushing my boiled brake fluid before next event. participating and every club sponsor, all playing a part Still rather than give up, I completed the weekend by during the year to the exciting Club Championship. lifting off on the braking corners but disappointing Big thanks for S&J Automotive for the huge Grand myself of 57.2 seconds and last in points for the Club Championship prizes and getting our cars on track! Championship round scoring as times were consistent Looking forward to getting back out there in 2017 with no improvement. driving or spectating! Final round 11 would see Willunga Hill Climb. But I never saw it. In between Legend of lakes and Willunga was Adelaide Motorsport Festival at Victoria Park. Disaster struck and the STI V5 crashed out heavily, injuring myself also in the accident.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SCORING For the 2017 Motorsport season, WRXSA will be using the proven system of a combination of Personal Best (PB) and Outright Results (OR), both totalled together to give you an overall for each round towards the Club Champion. Classes will also even out the scoring to give every car and driver a chance to earn points. This generates a fair system for both the novice and the experienced as beginners can benefit the PB’s and experts can rely on being fastest on the day.
PERSONAL BEST Each Club Championship entrant is to submit their personal best for each round prior to participating. Scoring will be calculated on point per second of bettering your PB. Scoring will be based on the number of total WRXSA entrants per round not per class. For beginners without a PB, your score will be calculated on the average of all runs but dropping your slowest run. Points for PB scoring will begin at 5pts for last person and upwards per position will gain 1pt for every additional entrant. Example, 4 WRXSA entrants: 4th=5pts, 3rd=6pts, 2nd=7pts, 1st=8pts.
OUTRIGHT RESULTS Also scored from each event is your outright result.
Points are allocated for final results of each round, outright, not per event’s class. Points are calculated from 1pt for last person and upwards per Club Championship entrant. Example, 4 WRXSA entrants: 4th=1pt, 3rd=2pts, 2nd=3pts, 1st=4pts.
Combined Score Both scores are combined to give each Club Championship round’s result. Example, using the above examples, an entrant finishes in 1st place with best PB and 2nd overall outright, would total 11pts. Each combined score is recorded and tallied in the class you have nominated. Two runs would be a minimum to be able to calculate and earn points for the club championship. Completing only one run will be placed last position for the round results. DNF/ DNQ from start of event will be placed last for the round results. If numerous DNF/DNQ, will be equalled last points. Entered but failed to start a Round event, will be excluded from Round results.
Exceptions For Wet events, in case of heavy rain throughout entire day, only outright score will be calculated. Any event will have a maximum 50 points total of Personal Best and Outright combined awarded to WRXSA entrants to prevent a runaway of leader board results. Points are not allocated to Tuner Owned vehicles. Must be personal/customer owned car complying with class regulations below.
Disciplines 12 Rounds of Club Championship. 9 of your best will be counted with ability to drop 3 of your worst. 3 disciplines are required to be eligible for Club Champion, 1x Sprint, 1x Hill Climb and 1x Motorkhana. Changing of vehicle permitted, but one per event per highest class. For example, if change of vehicle puts you in Open Class, this will remain your class for the remaining Club Championship.

POWER OF THE SHIELD 16 YEARS OF CLUB CHAMPIONS IN WRXSA After 16 years of motorsport in the WRXSA, we have finally filled the original Club Shield which started out as a club championship in 2001. It’s been a long history with many different level modifications forever changing the way we drive. In the beginning, WRXSA drivers were feeling the impressive 160kw from bolt on mods through to new Ecutek ECU reprograming in early noughties. Fast forward to 2016 and club members are well truly into mid 200kws and big turbos on E85 Ethanol fuel. Will we see a new era of 400kw with stronger EJ billet blocks? Or even future FA hybrid motors!? What will make a new champion succeed? Shayne Harmsen took the first Championship in 2001 and still has his 1999 WRX from the first days. 2002 was ex-President, Tony Hirst in a Red 1998 WRX wagon. Andrew Krieger took 2003, another member who still has his blue 1999 from the first days. 2004 saw Corey Fechner is his 2 door STi taking lap times to a new level. Chris Bennet 2005, 2006 Garry Dodd and
Michael Willis, 2007 Michael Willis again and 2008 David Palumbo, all in early GC8 WRXs. Chris Schapel took a bugeye ‘01 WRX to a championship win in 2009 before Damien Hirst with his 2 door reclaimed the 2010 championship for the classic GC8s. Michael Prout showed the newer 06 STI can win in 2011 while Garry Dodd took back to back in 2012 and 2013. Another white 06 STI with Jason Bartsch driving back to back wins for 2014 and 2015. And to finish the shield, Damien Hirst with a comeback win in the 2 Door STi for 2016. WRXSA haven’t been able to have such success without the club championship’s long time sponsor, S&J Automotive. Sean and the team have been supporting our grassroots motorsport since the start and 16 years later the Club Championship is bigger and better than ever thanks to their continuous sponsorship, technical help and advice for all members participating. The Club Shield will now be donated to S&J Automotive for a permanent place on the wall for all to see. With a new Club Championship Shield to come, let’s hope many more champions find their name in WRXSA club history! Damien Hirst
