WHERE DO I CALL FOR MORE INFORMATION?

COVID-19

CITY OF BEAUMONT RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS

For more information on fitness, community programs, drop in sports, childminding and aquatics please call 780.929.7946.

The health, safety and well-being of our residents, staff and visitors is our city’s priority. We have implemented a number of health and safety measures in order to respond to COVID-19 based on Government of Alberta standards.

For more information on FCSS programs please call 780.929.1006. For more information on Library programs and events please call 780.929.2665. AM I REGISTERED? Please proceed to the first class. You will NOT be contacted before the first class unless the program is cancelled, postponed or there is a change to the program. WAITING LIST Waiting lists are taken for all programs. If demand is sufficient and appropriate time, space, and instructors are available, classes will be added. You will only be contacted if space becomes available or if any additional course is offered. If the child is under the required age at the time of registration and will be of age within the duration of the course, they are advised to contact the Community Programmer a week prior to the course start date for availability and registration if space is available. The Community Programmer will consult with instructors regarding enrollment of underage participants.

We continue to ask the community and our employees to practise healthy hygiene habits and physical distancing (maintaining an appropriate distance from others) to prevent the spread of germs, including: • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds • Stay home if you are sick • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands • Do not share water bottles or similar containers • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash • Routinely clean frequently touched surfaces and objects Physical distancing is a term that refers to a conscious effort to reduce close contact between people and hopefully reduce community transmission of the virus. Practise physical distancing in all public situations as this plays an important role in minimizing the spread of the virus. This means staying at least two metres (six feet) away from other people.

BSRC AQUATIC PROGRAMS

SPRING

ADAPTED AQUATICS

$96.00

(PARENTED/SUPERVISED)

The Red Cross Swim Adapted Aquatics program is for swimmers with special needs. While this program uses the progressions in the Red Cross Swim Preschool and Red Cross Swim Kids Programs, the performance criteria for each level have been broken down into smaller, more manageable progressions to create a positive learning environment and make the success of each swimmer more achievable. The progressions have been created to progress swimmers with special needs slowly and at their own rate. In order to help meet the needs of our adapted aquatics candidates we have changed our inquiry and registration process. Please contact the BSRC Aquatics Team to learn more about the program and the registration process. E-mail: aquatic.programs@beaumont.ab.ca

BSRC AQUATIC PROGRAMS

SUMMER

SPIN & STRENGTH

YIN YOGA

Add a little something to your basic spin class! Challenge your body on/off the bike with core muscle exercises, in addition to working on your cardiovascular fitness!

Find relaxation and a deep stretch while exploring yin yoga. In this unique yoga practice, the whole body rests and opens with long held poses used to rejuvenate and repair the area of focus.

Join us for taste of yoga where you will get to enjoy a variety of different classes! This class aims to provide a variety of sequences and intensities to keep us healthy and revitalized. The “all levels class” will explore some power flows, as well as help us work on our flexibility, mobility and core strength overall to prevent any injuries!

SPINCYCLE

YIN YANG YOGA

Rev up your cardio and overall conditioning with a fun group cycling class. You will be challenged with a variety of drills utilizing rolling hills, sprints, climbs and much more!

A blend of two styles of yoga to promote strength and balance in the body. Yin Yoga is a passive practice with little active engagement of the muscles. Yang Yoga is an active practice that warms the body, thus creating endurance while strengthening and stretching muscles. Postures are held between 3-5 minutes. This allows the body to work deep into the connective tissues and ligaments, creating a calming effect in the nervous system!

STEP Classic step choreography with a twist! Variations will include challenging footwork, sticks, multibench, intervals and traditional chain choreography!

CLASS INTENSITY LEVELS: All of our classes are designed to offer different intensity levels to suit the fitness needs of our entire community! While classes are rated more or less intense, do note that our certified instructors skillfully offer modifications to our fitness classes to adapt to varying fitness levels and physical limitations. RPE – Rate of Perceived Exertion is based on a scale of 1-10. Rate of perceived exertion is a measure of effort level. A rating of 1 is rest or extremely light exercise, 2-5 ratings reflect easy-moderate exercise, 6-7 is moderate to hard, and a rating of 8-10 is vigorous exercise.

LOW INTENSITY: RPE: 2-5- classes rated as low intensity typically use low impact movements. You are still comfortable performing exercises while challenging yourself, and you can carry a conversation during class.

MODERATE INTENSITY: RPE 6-8 – classes rated as moderate intensity use variations of both high and low impact exercises, also can be dependent on the participant’s preferred modifications. Comfort zones are pushed while you are starting to get short of breath and only maintain brief conversation.

Program Information & Registration - 780.929.7946

HIGH INTENSITY: RPE 8-10 – classes rated as high intensity use variations of both high and low impact exercises reaching very difficult to maintain effort levels. This effort level will make you unable to maintain conversation, and leave you out of breath while pushing your limits!

SPORTBALL WEATHER POLICY: At Sportball we have a “Rain or Shine” policy, coaches will be prepared to run classes no matter what the weather is like. We understand that in Beaumont weather can change on a dime, so please be ready to dress warmly, layer up and try to be prepared for ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS! The only event we will not run classes in is if there is lightning in the vicinity or in the fields. In the event of lightning, our coaches will still be at the location waiting for an opportunity to run classes in case the lightning and thunder stops. Unfortunately, we also have a no refund policy and due to large classes, make ups may be hard to arrange for our outdoor soccer classes. If the weather does not permit us to play, classes will be cancelled and coaches will call. We will keep our fingers crossed for nice weather will be upon us and we apologize in advance for any inconvenience this policy may cause!
